Mistakes happen

Posted in:

* From Dan Proft’s DuPage Policy Journal

Republican candidate for Illinois State Senate District 23 Seth Lewis’ Democratic opponent Sen. Tom Fullerton (D-Marion) was recently called out for his tax policies and inability to say no to House Speaker Mike Madigan.

OK, first of all it’s “Cullerton,” not “Fullerton.” My message app sometimes auto-corrects Cullerton to Fullerton, so maybe that’s what happened here because it’s spelled correctly elsewhere in the story.

But “D-Marion”? Um, Sen. Cullerton lives in Villa Park, which is 327 miles and worlds apart from Marion. Anyone who knows even a little about Illinois politics would’ve caught that error.

This is what can happen when your Illinois political reporter files a ton of slapped together stories from upstate New York.

  1. kinda mean words for our friends from the Empire State? Maybe if Proftsessor paid a living wage they could better work.

  2. Proft’s only worry is how fast he can cash checks.

Facts? Meh. It’ll sort out. Eventually.

I guess Proft’s idea of “work product” is a bit on the flimsy side?

It’s cute Proft is out-sourcing work when there are perfectly good writers here willing to write fiction and not worry about spelling, punctuation, or facts…

  3. John not Tom Cullerton.

  4. Nope Tom. John is District 6. I believe they are cousins. Someone can correct me if not.

  5. Has anyone checked the rag Proft is circulating in John Bradley’s district?

“(D) Marion” — that was probably just poorly cut and pasted to the Tom Cullerton-targeted rag.

  6. It’s the atrocities of redistricting.
Tom Cullerton’s Senate District stretches from Villa Park to Marion.

  7. Michelle Flattery- I think they would draw it to the 38th Ward first.

  8. Same high level of quality that Rauner’s group has done so far on almost everything they do.

Comment by DuPage Monday, Aug 29, 16 @ 4:08 pm

  9. Let’s not forget the other facts that are wrong. Like the fact that Tom Cullerton actually does support property tax freezes… or that he is in favor of the fair map amendment…

Who actually cares about the truth these days?

I guess the Dan Profit approach is if you continue to repeat something it over and over again it becomes the truth despite how misleading it may be…

  10. Isn’t Mari on in Lincoln county?

  11. I contacted that publication a week or so ago with corrections-they had all sorts of geographic mistakes. I never heard back nor have they published any corrections or editors notes. But my biggest question is, if the DuPage Policy Journal is independent why does their Facebook page show the Dupage County Judicial Center as their wallpaper?

  12. I am pretty sure his district doesn’t go all the way to Marion.

  14. Proft must be some kind of sweet talker to con these old rich dudes out of their money for what he produces.

  15. Eh. Regardless of the problems in the story Proft gets his licks in.
Accuracy has never seemed to be a high priority to his constituency
