Cook County Republican Party Chairman Gary Skoein will announce Monday that he is stepping down to care for his wife, who has cancer. The move has been anticipated for some time.

A special meeting of the Cook County Republican Central Committee has been called for Feb. 12 at the Hyatt Regency to elect a new chairman, according to a release from the party.
