Is Munger’s Rauner money coming soon?

Posted in:

* Comptroller Leslie Munger ended the last quarter with $281,608 in the bank. She has since reported raising $337,217, most of it from her husband.

So, that gives her, let’s say, about $600K on hand right now. Sources say her recent TV buy was $577K for a week, which is pretty much all the money she has on hand. She’s going to need more cash really soon.

* That’s why this development could turn out to be important…

So, I’m guessing we could see some Rauner money transferred to Munger later today or over the weekend.

  1. I wish I had enough money to make people like me. As it is, I have to rely on my wits, personality and things I say.

  3. Obviously, I’m failing miserably. Then again, I’m buying some lottery tickets this weekend, and maybe I too can become an elected official!

  4. This waiting gamble only works if Rauner… um, er… Munger starts to bury Mendoza at almost a million a week until the end.

Mendoza better make sure they have Labor and a ground game, otherwise… yikes.

    … oh, and spell-check Mendoza Crew… use spell-check.

  5. I’m asking this innocent question as a regular citizen. Aren’t we seeing enough signs of “coordination” between PACs and campaigns, and isn’t this orchestrated activity illegal?

Comment by Dome Gnome Friday, Sep 30, 16 @ 9:56 am

  6. If Marwig gets more help than Mendoza here in the next few weeks, we will see where the D’s priorities are at.

  7. Neither Munger or Rauner are anywhere as good as Judy Barr Topinka. It’s like they haven’t the faintest idea how to do their jobs.

Rauner has made the GOP look like the last party anyone would want to be a part of. Constantly playing the victim doesn’t win friends.

  8. This is Munger’s to lose… I don’t think she’ll lose.

Mendoza’s “Crew” hasn’t shown anything but ridiculous fundamental errors, and leaving Mendiza herself to try to carry the campaign through.

At that rate, won’t be nearly enough.

  9. The caps are now off in the Munger/Mendoza race so anyone (including Rauner, Griffin, Uihlein, Zell, etc.) can contribute unlimited funds directly to her campaign. If Rauner wants to get her a large amount of money he doesn’t need to first move it into his campaign committee, then to the party, then to her campaign committee the way they still have to do it for most legislative races. It seems more likely that this money will be spent on General Assembly races, although who knows.

  10. Saw this ad last night. First, I can’t relate to her family while they are sitting on a couch, looking as if they just finished drinking port and smoking cigars at the yacht club. Second, her stump speech at the end sounds like she’s talking at double-speed.

  11. It seems to me that ad “money” is increasingly less useful in races like Munger/Mendoza for garnering votes. In this day of reduced TV watching, disgust at miss-the-mark messaging and increased other direct avenues for reaching voters which do not cost as much, I think some campaigns and some traditionalist political strategists and analysts are missing this change in the weather.

  12. Gosh, doesn’t it stink when you think you are going to get paid and the money just doesn’t show up. Ask former Sen. Murphy about that….

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Friday, Sep 30, 16 @ 10:31 am

  13. Munger is complicit in chasing, in my opinion, one of the best Illinois state Senators out of the General Assembly.

    Almost a…

“I’m frustrated too, but chasing out Sen. Murphy is more important than being within the statutory and Constituional”

I guess “reassessing” meant chasing out Matt Murphy?

    Um, ok.

  14. How much money is Rauner not paying in taxes due to the tax rate being low? So instead of raising taxes to where they need to be, and paying his fair share into the state coffers to pay for things like social services and roads, he gets to keep those millions and use them to buy the ILGOP, and try to buy the ILGA.

Comment by Henry Francis Friday, Sep 30, 16 @ 11:01 am

  15. >I wish I had enough money to make people like me.

I’m not sure they like him so much as fear his retribution.

Comment by Earnest Friday, Sep 30, 16 @ 11:16 am

  16. When politicians “loan” their own dollars to campaigns, the campaign actually is borrowing the money and the politician then gets to set the interest rate on the loan.
The interest is paid by those who donate. A 7% interest rate is not uncommon and guarantees the politician a rate of return on their own money.
Good gig if you can get it….eh?

Comment by Union Man Friday, Sep 30, 16 @ 11:31 am

  17. For what it’s worth, I don’t think she’s got the greatest ad in the world, but I have seen it at least five times without trying.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Friday, Sep 30, 16 @ 11:52 am

  18. The guy has an expensive hobby.

It’s his money and can do with it what he wishes, of course.

But geez, just think of the productive good he could do for real people with what he’s spent so far.

  19. Getting late. Hope they have their ads in the can, ready to go.

  20. Not Rauner money, but Scott Kennedy notes a $5 million A-1 was just filed for Munger, almost all from Uihlein and Griffin. https://twitter.com/ILElectionData/status/781963386426789888
