  2. Kristen McQueary must be getting wet ear from all the calls by the desperate whinners in the Dishonest John camp in the 19th Ward Race. Kristen, treat them like I treat the callers at 8:57 Hello, Pah - Treeque Theese ees Rooory Muk-Shane of Shahm-Rock Mortgage do yoo know . . .(click).

Tim Sheehan announced for Alderman LOOOOOOOOOOONG before Handsome John Somerplace decided to ‘bring the community together’ by bad mouthing the Beverly Review, The Daily Southtown, Beverly Area Planning Association, Windy City Veterans, The South Side Parade Committee, and the coffe drinkers at Kean Gas of conspiracy withthe 19th Ward Organization to ‘undermine’ his RUN JOHN RUN! Campaign. John it is a huge conspiracy - you are generally ignored and hugely regarded as self-absorbed ( your campaign is anyway). This HUGE conspiracy will be evident after 7p.m. - and your campaign for the third go around for Alderman will begin on the following morning. Kristen knows that politics is a neighborhood thing and good neighbors make good politics.

  3. Sheehan is definitely not a plant. His friends and relatives have been out working the precincts for a couple months. So has Ginger. Don’t be suprised to see Little John come in 3rd with a possible runoff between Tim and Ginger. Don’t count out the reg org in this ward yet. They are young, motivated, and hungry. It should be quite a race.

  4. Bill,

How about it. Tim Sheehan is a great guy and he has many friends. One old pal of mine called asking for support of Tim’s run, but I had to decline as Ginger has always represented my Ward in a fine fashion. The other guy - ’nuff said - will and has said anything about anyone in the most shameless manner. He has supporters - God bless them, but there are not anywhere near enough of them ( Who Vote in The Ward, John !) to make things matter.

It will be a barn-burner between Ginger and Tim. I do not think the other guy will get above 15%.

  5. Could you please share the cable broadcast schedule for county board meetings; time and channel. These airings will be important for people to see.

    thanks

  7. The reporter who wrote on Jack Cerone in the State Journal-Register did a fine job. The only thing she left out (as far as I could see) was noting that Cerone’s daughter ended up being the only Republican candidate for Circuit Court Judge here in Cook County to win her race back in November. Jill Cerone-Marisie was unopposed in the General Election up in the heavily Republican 13th Subcircuit in Cook County’s northwest suburbs, having defeated two male judicial candidates in the Republican Primary back in March.

Judge Cerone-Marisie, during her relatively short legal career prior to her election to the bench, had apparently represented a number of labor unions in regards to various allegations by the federal government as to the conduct and affairs of said unions. Without going into details here, it would appear that her success record for her clients made the 1962 New York Mets look like the 1927 New York Yankees. (Of course, even guilty clients deserve representation.)

Again, a job well done by the SJ-R.

  8. March 1 is the deadline for Cook County residents to pay the first installment of property taxes.
Many are likely not too happy as they write out these hefty checks. I know I’m not.

So it’s not the greatest time for the board to be deciding whether to up those property taxes again.

Given the obvious reluctance to lay off thousands of political hires and the really desperate proposals being advanced…a tax on bullets! that would bring in a few hundred thousand—I guess even John Daley must be sweating a bit.

So far, the various wacky “fee” proposals, even if implemented, add up to a tiny fraction of the $500 million gap we are told exists, though.

A real suspense story here in Cook.

  9. If Campaign finance reform is such a good thing, why isn’t the Prince staying with public financing? :)

I wonder if they will ever admit it doesn’t work, and go back to the way it was in the 60s?

Comment by Pat Collins Thursday, Feb 8, 07 @ 10:14 am

  10. Pat
You do know that except for generally concerning the same subject mattere, public financing of elections has nothing to do with campaign finance reform, don’t you?
