  1. Oh, it’s on. And this time it’s different. GOP candidates now have finishing money, which they traditionally did not have (unlike their D competitors).

Look for some truly interesting and surprising outcomes now that resources are even.

  2. It just makes me think of the old gameshow Press Your Luck, “come on, big money, no whammies STOP!”

  3. Well you can sure see why Rauner goes after AFSCME.

Also either we’re doing really well against Dwight Kay or really poorly. 37k for mailers isn’t a lot. Or maybe Dwights got a big warchest. Does anyone know. Better yet, can someone tell me how to find out?

  4. IMHO, it will be considered a collossal failure if the Republicans lose/and or don’t pick up seats. A Munger defeat will be a resounding repudiation of the Rauner administration. Dems losing seats during a Presidential election will prove the effectiveness of big money infused into campaigns by a small minority.

  5. Imagine what would have happened if Rauner had spent this kinda cash on HRO and Senate races during the 2014 cycle. Jerry Long would have won and Katherine Ruocco would have taken out James Clayborne.

  6. When I first moved to Illinois, I was recruited to help with fundraising for some local races. Having worked primarily on federal races for years, one of the first questions I had was what the donation caps were. Everyone in the room broke up laughing. Now I really know why.

  9. THANK YOU SO MUCH CAPTAIN! Wow, that sure answers my question!!!!!

  10. Honeybear, Dwight Kay failed to show up for the Meet the Candidates put together by League of Women Voters. I guess he intends to get his message out via Proft mailers rather than talking to voters.

    Good news for you?

  11. Honeybear - go to http://elections.il.gov/

Do a Committee search and type in Kay

All his D-2 reports and A-1 filings are a matter of record.

  12. It’s up to Labor and Democrats to have a strong GOTV and make the point how Raunerites want to destroy Labor, close state universities, refuse to fund social services, and…

Bruce Rauner supports Donald Trump for President of the United States.

    Vote Accordingly.

… the Dems need to be efficient enough wit their cash to boost turnout overall, and boost the constituencies most hurt by Bruce Rauner.

    “Simple”…

  13. Okay so here’s a learner question. I’m asking this partly because I don’t know the answer and partly because seeing all the cash going into an opponents account has made me kind of down and I’m manufacturing a pick me up. Here’s the question.

The Marines like to talk about “force multipliers”. Proper training is a force multiplier. Personal experience is a force multiplier. Strong leadership is a force multiplier. You get the picture.

I feel as a union activist, I am a force multiplier for my candidate. I’ve walked multiple times for my candidate, phone banked, recruited other activists, etc. I’m not even an intern or paid campaign staff.

Besides paid campaign staff or interns, who or what are the “force multipliers” striving for the Republican side? I know money is one. But I’m interested in the people force multipliers. Do the Tea Party people get out and do what I’m doing? 2nd Amendment folk? Honestly, I just don’t know.

  14. Between the IL Republican Party’s $249,649.50 donation and HRO’s $34,444.92 5A for yet another mailer, Bourne got over a quarter million $$$ out of the coffers yesterday.

  15. =It’s up to citizens to have a strong GOTV and make the point how Madigan has destroyed state universities, refused to fund social services for years, and…

Madigan supports corrupt Hillary Clinton for President of the United States.

    Vote Accordingly.

Fixed that for you OW… You’re welcome! :)

  16. ===Madigan supports corrupt Hillary Clinton for President of the United States===

How’s Hillary polling in the Collars? Women?

You know Democrats in Illinois ARE supporting Hillary?

That’s my WHOLE point. Rally around Democratic unity, while Raunerites want surpression,

Seriously, do you know how this whole politics thing works?

Rauner got 2 in 5 Union Households to beat Quinn. How do ya think that might go next time?

===…… the Raunerites have enough cash to boost turnout overall, and boost the constituencies…===

“Taxpayers”? Don’t be “shy”, we can all hear a dog whistle…

    Union members ARE taxpayers too.

… and yet, up to last week, Rauner’s IPI was fighting to suppress voters.

    Why?

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Oct 21, 16 @ 1:57 pm

  17. ===…Madigan has destroyed state universities, refused to fund social services for years, and…===

Only under Bruce Rauner have state universities been denied funding… funding that’s been non-stop since 1858.

Rauner. Rauner is the only governor since 1858 to not fund state universities… and that was stopped, to be clear…

… by Rauner’s Veto pen, and Raunerites voting “Red” on funding state universities…

    But you already knew that.

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Oct 21, 16 @ 2:09 pm

  18. Wow, I had a sudden flash of Madigan as Captain Picard which knocked the Madigan/Clinton/Trump image out of my head at last. Make it so.

Comment by Earnest Friday, Oct 21, 16 @ 2:38 pm

  19. Why?
Because sometimes on a Friday it’s just fun to pull your string and watch you go OW. And I seriously don’t know how this whole politics thing works in Illinois for sure. One person has for years and a newbie is changing the game so I guess there are only two people in the state that REALLY know what’s going on. Enjoy the weekend!
