I’m a Sox fan, been happy for my Cubs fan friends, but this pushes me over the edge - I’m rooting for the Indians - gotta keep the title in the AL Central.

The only thing I’m dreading is a potential parade. Looks like a day off if that happens. The Blackhawks parades were a zoo downtown.

I think most Sox fans are just dreading the tenfold retaliation they are going to receive for the persistent trash-talking to Cub fans ever since the Southsiders won it in ‘05….. Go Cubs!!!!!!!

Nine year old who shares the same last name as me was upside down kicking his feet in frustration as the Cubs won the pennant. He HATES them. He will be getting this if they win the series.

A Cubs victory parade would make those Blackhawks parades look like a Sunday picnic. Also, they had better make sure Corey Crawford doesn’t make a guest appearance!

for all you Cubbie fans who wonder why Sox fans get so angry, exhibits here. it was super infuriating in 2005 to hear “but it would be bigger if it were the Cubs,” but the pure absence and incorrect information about baseball in Chicago in these examples is maddening. It sure seems like most Sox fans are bashing the Cubs.
I didn’t want to bash Sox fans, but in light of their attitude, I am sort of amused by the national response.

While I am a Sox fan cheering the Cubs (I have actually watched way more Cubs this year too), that is patently absurd. Cub fans still had open wounds from ‘03 (when they were also the absolute worst when told I was a Sox fan). Other Sox fans might be haters, but an equal percentage of Cubs fans are haters. And unfortunately there are a lot more of them because their fan base is so big.

Maybe Frank Thomas will be on this coverage and he can give them a dose of history.

Even as a Cubs fan, I find it ridiculous that @espn forgot to add to the White Sox WS from 2005. One of many reasons why I’ve more or less tuned out to the “World wide Leader” in sports. They owe White Sox nation an apology.

the problem is the conflation. Cub fans and the media melding together. led by the longtime story created by the Tribune/WGN land, Sox fans have to listen to a wall of Cubness. all the yuppies who crawled into gentrification land in the late 60s and finally got the crowd coming to Wrigley. (check the stats, the Sox used to outdraw the Cubs for years and years, Wrigley Field upper deck closed, check.)Bleacher Bums. it’s a narrative created that Mike Madigan would love, a long time chess match of creating the appearance that there is only one ball team in Chicago. Loved watching Tom Hanks last night telling Colbert he was for Cleveland.

Amalia is right. The media is conflating the Cubs and their success far beyond what we loyal fans want or expect. I hope this team succeeds in winning the World Series, but I don’t think the media should take credit for their success. Exploitation is expected, but not desired by true Cubs fans. We just want to win, at last.

I am a lifelong Cardinal Cardinal fan who is rooting for the Cubs in the World Series. I am happy for my friends who are lifelong Cub fans, irritated by the johnny-come-lately “fans,” but given the 108 year drought I totally understand the media hype.

Nobody asked them to. My friends who are Cubs fans know I’m cheering for the Indians, and I would expect the same from them if the roles were reversed. What fun is a rivalry if we’re rooting for each other’s team?

The combined shutout last night in Cleveland is the first time a Cubs team has been whitewashed in a World Series game since 1918. A Red Sox starting pitcher by the name of Babe Ruth performed the feat in Game 1 of the World Series of 1918 at old Comiskey Park, which the Cubs used for their World Series home games that season.

I am a lifelong Sox fan. Within my family, our uncle holds a World Series ring given to him by Jerry himself for being a part of this team for over 30 years. I have a 2005 World Series ball signed by Ozzie.
This kind of thing is so damn typical for us Sox fans. Even during their winning season we were treated like illiterate Southsiders by other Chicagoans. It’s inexcusable.
Last night I wasted three hours watching Cleveland spank the Cubs. Painful. All my excited kids grew bored after two inning. They chose to go to bed instead of watching the game.
I still hope the Cubs win, but I am damn tired of seeing my World Series winning team treated like second class garbage.

It’s the statistical minutiae that goes along with the WS that bothers me the most. “He becomes the first player is WS history to see 17 pitches in the 2nd inning of a Game 3.” Stuff like that. A few of the facts are interesting but most are just annoying.
