Today’s video: Rauner victory lap

Posted in:

* Gov. Bruce Rauner probably enjoyed the most receptive audiences of his time in office when he visited the Quad Cities area and Clinton to sign the Exelon bill. The Rauner folks have made a video of the events. Have a look…

  1. What I see is the Governor celebrating yet another reason for manufacturing to leave Illinois.

Comment by Big Muddy Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:35 am

  2. He’s a savior. Tax payer bail-out for a ridiculously profitable company. What’s not to celebrate?

Comment by dominionhinny Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:36 am

  3. Rauner remains a complete and utter disappointment.

Comment by DuPage Dave Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:37 am

  4. Trunp-like with such yuuuuge crowds cheering him on.

When will he whip them up into a frenzy of “lock him up” regarding MJM?

Comment by Henry Francis Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:48 am

  5. More of this, please! Megabus announced 100 layoffs for January. Ryder has 140 jobs going. Let’s raise the gas tax a little bit for everyone in the state to save those jobs. Redistribution is the way to prosperity.

Comment by Bailing Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:48 am

  6. He must be so proud, after telling that highly profitable company that they are no longer getting any state assistance, just like those dirty money grubbing charities he cut off earlier.

    Oh wait….

Comment by How Ironic Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:50 am

  7. $235 million a year of other people’s money in Exelon’s pocket, at $156K a year per “saved” job.

At that price, shouldn’t those paying the freight get a piece of the action, like in stock?

If Exelon raised that kind of money in the capital markets, they’d have to give something.

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:51 am

  8. Was this a solo lift or only possible because of the cooperation/participation of Speaker Madigan and President Cullerton?

    Askin’ for a friend.

Comment by Matt Belcher Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:52 am

  9. No matter how you dress it up…this is the essence of crony capitalism!

Comment by TickTackToe Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 11:53 am

  13. ==Redistribution is the way to prosperity==

    No. Hell NO.

Hard work is. You should try it some time Bailing.

Comment by Big Muddy Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:02 pm

  14. A week ago BigBrain was racin’ around IL tryin’ to kill the bill and blame Madigan. When the SuperStars ’splained it would not work out that way hs hires the marchin’ bands to play Hail to the Chief ….very zany. BTW it is unlikely ratepayers will even notice the microscopic rate hike needed to keep the nukes glowin’

Comment by Annonin' Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:16 pm

  15. This is a major PR mistake by Rauner and his Superstars. Yes, two towns are wildly happy with him for this bailout … but the rest of State likely is far less than thrilled.

Comment by Deft Wing Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:21 pm

  16. Jobs we saved nuclear power is a good thing. Not everyone is happy . Sounds like my daily life.
    Merry Christmas.

Comment by Mokenavince Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:31 pm

  17. Time for a drive-by. I just love celebrating a bailout! While we’re at it, how about CPS? “We don’t want our tax dollars used to bail out Chicago” you say? And, you say, ” this is not a tax, the government is not taxing us!” And I say, who you crappin? The Governor just increased our taxes and you didn’t say a thing about it…how about we just allow Excelon to put a CPS tax on your bills to fund education? Would you celebrate it then….?

Comment by GetOverIt Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:32 pm

  18. ===Hard work is. You should try it some time Bailing.===

I know plenty of people that work their butts off and are dirt poor. Hard work is what your boss tells you. Let me tell you, the key to capitalism is making as much money as possible while doing as little work as possible and convincing everyone else that that is a dirty lie. Hard work. Please. I know absolutely no one wealthy or even upper-middle class that got there by working hard. You need to have a little brains and some good luck. Actual work has nothing to do with it.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:44 pm

  19. Day-Ruining Comment : –When will he encorage “lock him up” chants from the crowds?–

Soon. Remember, this is 24/7/365 personal attack warfare.

Comment by walker Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:46 pm

  20. ducky, talk to some small business owners that are doing well. they didn’t get that way from doing as little as possible. social time for them doesn’t really exist and they work non stop on building their business.

Comment by working stiff Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 12:55 pm

  21. The Dems should show fixed income seniors cheering that they pay more for electric. Or have them throw on an extra sweater for that energy efficiency stuff. Maybe show a school cutting a bus line or two and kids spending and extra 30 minutes on a bus route because of an increase in electric rates for the school. Dimmer switches in surgery rooms-just use those headlamp things you only need the light where your really working. Cut some hours at the plant to make up for the increase in electric costs running the line.
Lots of good opportunities to cheer this bill. Ugh

Comment by DuPage Bard Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:02 pm

  22. Pep rallies at high schools? I’m kind of embarrassed for the Governor. Kids can be counted on to cheer loudly, especially when they get out of class to do it.

“You kids are in high school today, but thanks to the rate payers in Chicago and elsewhere, someday you and your pals can be like Homer, Lenny and Carl, and work for the rest of your lives in Sector 7-G. God bless you, God bless Illinois, and God bless the rate payers of Com Ed and Ameren!”

  24. If you need examples of the “you didn’t build that” or those that think they should get trophies for just showing up class, I present you with Bailing and Ducky. Two examples of people who think success is owed to them regardless of effort.

Comment by Big Muddy Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:19 pm

  25. ===Actual work has nothing to do with it===

You need to get out more.

Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:20 pm

  26. Someone needs to point this out.

Saved a bunch of higher paying union jobs? Property tax payments to schools with union employees and teachers will continue, averting layoffs?

Wait? For two years I’ve been reading comments here about the anti-unions, destroy all unions agenda of one Bruce Rauner?

    What gives?

    Comment by Louis G. Atsaves Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:24 pm

  27. –The Dems should show fixed income seniors cheering that they pay more for electric.–

Madigan and Cullerton were in on it the grift.

Exelon/ComEd is the great uniter under the Dome; they can roll everyone.

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:24 pm

  28. ===What gives?===

The Governor is really a collectivist?

    Comment by 47th Ward Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:27 pm

  29. Nothing quite like a large political rally - marching band and all - held in a public high school, during the school day, with the students attending.

Comment by JoeMaddon Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:28 pm

  30. Oh - Louis G Atsaves -, lol

You forget? This passed through both chambers.

    Why was that?

60/71 and 30/36 is what any governor needs.

This is an example where Rauner worked, worked the actual forming of the bill, got his totals, and got the bill he wanted passed for a clean signature.

Your silliness forgets… Rauner has no want for passage, Rauner is purposely leveraging for votes that don’t have support, unlike this bill.

Why is Rauner so happy? Rauner got this through… conventionally. I’d be happy too, if I was new to the actual governing process…

… that and the Dem leaders help with a lift that all wanted.

    “Other than that… “

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:30 pm

  31. ==… but the rest of State likely is far less than thrilled.==

Seriously…the rest of the state has barely noticed, if at all.

Where did you buy your Jump-to-Conclusion Mat?

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 1:50 pm

  33. “but the rest of State likely is far less than thrilled”

Everyone here in the Loop has noticed and reactions range from rolling-eyes at the hypocrisy to deep frustrations at the selective governing.

Comment by AlfondoGonz Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 2:00 pm

  34. === If Exelon raised that kind of money in the capital markets, they’d have to give something. ===

They gave in the form of campaign donations and lobbyist fees.

As far as when is a bailout a bailout, it only applies to a certain Big City school district, not to a giant corporation.

Comment by Anon Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 2:10 pm

  35. The “Montgomery Burns saves the nuke plant” tour, coming to a city near you!

Comment by Trolling Troll Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 2:11 pm

  36. I wonder when the governor will tour central and southern Illinois explaining how a bail out of nuclear energy will help laid off coal miners?

Comment by Tough Guy Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 2:14 pm

  37. Exelon purchased the Clinton plant for $40 mill. It cost $4 BILLION to build it. That’s a 90% discount, or 10 cents on the dollar, and THEY STILL can’t make money? Horse Hockey

I’m thankful we have a Guvnah who doesn’t obligate taxpayers without know the funding source

Comment by Union Man Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 2:21 pm

  38. Meanwhile COMED has the Rock Island Clean Line transmission line project tied up in court. That line is to bring a lot of cheap wind power from Iowa into Illinois. I see a reason Illinois manufacturers will want to move to Iowa, and it has nothing to do with workers comp insurance.

Comment by DuPage Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 3:05 pm

  39. DuPage,
This will no doubt have a bigger negative impact on my business but work comp reform is needed. I would say even more so after this. My thin PM just got thinner. Springfield can’t just keep hammering small businesses. Ugh.

Comment by Big Muddy Friday, Dec 9, 16 @ 3:48 pm

  40. Union Man, if that’s accurate that is a 99% discount.
