The governor’s budget will include $10 billion for schools over four years.
The first year would provide $1.5 billion with $3 billion in the other years.

I have $10B in my budget too. Now I just have to get the all money to back that up or make some simple adjustments.

HoHoHo Santa Claus is Coming To Town. Bleche!!! I never did know where Santa got his money. We can check the campaign donation records to see where Santa Blago gets some of his, though. Wonder if Kjellander will be in the limelight on this one or will he just hide behind the curtain. Gettin pretty crowded back there what with Rezko, Kjellander, Mell and gaod knows whoever else. 16 Billion Dollars in politicians hands is just totally irresponsible - especially as a lump sum and not line itemed AND scrutinized in public view.

Need some context. How much was the property tax swap supposed to provide? The lottery? How much was the state already giving for education.
And more importantly, how would the monies be distributed to school districts. And no, City of Chicago school districts are not poorly funded.
Does this mean that state monies currently being used for education would be “released” (ha) for other purposes. If yes, one can imagine what those purposes might be.

Say what you want about Rod, but he really has his stuff together this year.
Good agenda and solid ways to pay for it.

That’s a wonderful IDEA, but where is the money going to come from and how is it going to be used? Will it be distributed fairly to schools outside of the areas that have money and good school systems, or does everyone get equal amounts?
I’m worried about what is going to happen to everything else. Truly scared about the forgotten people, the ones (besides school kids) who can’t speak loudly enough for themselves. This budget is going to hurt them bad. That’s my prediction, based on the past 4 years.

I believe that his proposed Gross Receipts Tax is supposed to generate about 10 billion. However, I thought a good portion of that was going to the healthcare plan he’s proposed, and only a (relatively) small portion was earmarked for school funding. Has that changed? Or were my facts not right to start with?

Or maybe what I understood was it was going to generate 10 billion a year, in which case over 4 years those numbers seem about what I heard. It’s too early, sorry.

While I am all for public school education, the governor needs to look at higher ed. funding, which has been stagnant since he came to office. His representatives say that higher ed. is not a high enough priority for the governor (it’s not a vote getter). The governor has complained about increasing tuition and fees, but that happens because the state has allowed minimal increase in its funding for the last four years.
