It starts out effective and then takes a turn to “over the top” Local Mayors are generally pretty well known and generally well liked in a community. This ad puts too much icing on the cake.
In the realm of Pass/Fail, it’s right on the line. I don’t do the letter grades, but if I did this would be closer to an F than a D+.

Pretty sure property tax increase was school related

For people who are familiar with the race this ad is effective. The mayor is catching a lot of heat in Orland Park. This is a big issue. This ad will Do the job intended.

Should have pointed out what the huge salary increase will mean over the life of his pension that will be picked up by the state and not Orland Park

Stan’s right…this is a big issue. McLaughlin is ditching the city manager form of government and making himself the full time mayor for mucho bucks — just in time to spike his pension.
Interesting that Proft is involved. I don’t think this is a re-run of the Chapa LaVia take down. McLaughlin can’t be easily connected to Madigan. In fact, he’s feuded with the Speaker frequently.
McLaughlin should win, regardless of this issue and ad.

After 20 years, he would have collected about $2.6 million in pension payments, from the higher salary, compared with roughly $770,000 as calculated under the current salary.
For a few extra years work at the higher salary
That is the message. Profit failed to tie this into the biggest problem this state has and only one party is trying to fix it
Anyone still think we don’t need pension reform in this state?

Except for the part about the state picking it up being untrue, since its an IMRF pension.
Not that untruth is necessarily a deal-breaker for either Proft or you.

C, but the issues are an albatross for McLaughlin. There is a good argument he has been there long enough (20 years or so?) and run up some gigantic debts for municipal projects. The schools are in good shape, though the high schools there are in a district that covers a number of municipalities.

The ad is ok. I’m sure Proft has more coming they just reported a 100k media by for Pekau who is running against McLaughlin. Wouldn’t be surprised if Rauner dosen’t also get involved. The pay raise and pension boost is right up his agenda. Orland township is Republican and Trump won there so Rauner might play good in that race.

He ran against JBT for Treasurer years ago. He ran a dirty negative campaign also. For that reason also I hope he loses.

-Orland Parker- Also running on same ticket with McLaughlin is the former GOP committeeman from Orland Township Jim Dodge, whom by coincidence also ran for office against JBT. He voted for the raise and pension boost. Nothing like those good old hard R’s being all for pension reform huh!!

“Chicanery” is a synonym for “deceit,” as in your lame attempt at it in claiming that the state would pick up his pension costs.
I notice you’re not defending that.
As to the mayor, I’ll leave it to the voters in Orland Park as it’s no skin off my nose.

It happened in the local Berwyn Democratic primary. Even though Proft wasn’t involved directly, they used his tactics to try and unseat the popular incumbent Mayor. People who were tied to Proft in the past were instrumental in the opposition’s campaign. All you have to do is imply (actually lie) and people will believe it because they are too lazy to look up the facts.
