  1. I bet that BRITISH Petroleum (BP) wouldn’t suggest dumping more pollution into the Thames River in London. Elected officials over there would have have something to say about that.

  2. It makes no sense at all to have eligibility
for SCHIP vary from state to state.

A child living in the United States should have access to health care no matter what his/her parents’ income and its relationship to the poverty level. If we can spend trillions in Iraq, we can at least do that.

Having said this, I applaud the Bush administration for pushing the states to enroll
low income children. States like Illinois, with its low-performance, high-cost state bureaucracies, need the push.

  3. Perhaps I am the only individual with the following opinion: As a child I always looked up to Big Jim as a defender of the people when he served as a prosecuting attorney. When he became Governor, I thought the man was as big as John Wayne when it came to standing up for truth, justice, and the American way. Today, I am a 60 year old Republican who has watched Big Jim take a huge “swan dive” from the lofty perch upon which I had mistakenly placed him as a child. It isn’t just because of his defense of another corrupt Illinois governor because I have gotten pretty used to them over the years (which is a tragic statement). It is because I have suddenly come to the personal conclusion that Big Jim had (somewhere along the way) become inflicted with that same disease of character that the other “fallen angels” have contracted. The tell-tale symptom is exemplified by the Biblical phrase that I once read, “It is better to rule in hell than to live in Heaven” or something along those lines. Power eventually corrupts even the best of men if they are tempted by power and self-enrichment long enough.
