Poll: 68 percent of Illinois Democrats concerned about contracting COVID-19

Posted in:

* One of the questions in that new WGN poll of likely Democratic primary voters

Based on everything that you have seen, read or heard about Coronavirus, how concerned are you about contracting Coronavirus?

Now, this may not mean much or anything at all, but of those Democrats who said they were very concerned, 71 percent said they were voting for Joe Biden next Tuesday. And of that same group of very concerned folks, 61 percent said Biden had the better health care policy.

  1. And yet in every single state to vote thus far, a majority of Democratic primary voters favor replacing private insurance with single-payer.

Do voters realize Bernie is advocating for this and Biden opposes it?

The coronavirus itself is like an ad for Medicare for All - no out-of-pocket cost to get tested, no out-of-pocket cost to get treatment, and most of all - EVERYONE is covered! If you wanted to stop the spread of a pandemic, that’s how you do it (in addition to quarantines).

  2. If there’s one thing this crisis is teaching us, it’s that leaving 10 million people without health insurance is just the smart healthcare policy

  3. I concur with the “somewhat concerned” group. Concerned about containment and mitigation efforts, which would help so many avoid infection.

Health insurance wise I support universal health insurance, in some form of public-private model. But a SCOTUS Medicaid ruling prohibits mandatory ACA Adult Medicaid coverage in all states, which is very backward for a country of our stature.

  4. Why was this question not asked of Republicans? That seems oddly political.

  5. If 28% don’t show, no one is dying to vote for Biden?

    1) the epidemic is already here
    2) there appears to be no legal authority to cancel the election, which would be tyranny anyway

  7. I’m not concerned, unless knuckleheads (with and without insurance) clog up the healthcare system because they feel ‘under the weather’ and take a spot from my deserving mother (should she contract it). While exercising protective measures, I’m resigned to catching it…later rather than sooner.

  8. Frankly I’m not sure if I’m more concerned about COVID-19 or the fact that partisanship in this country now effects our concern levels regarding a deadly virus.

FiveThirtyEight posted this morning the results of several polls showing roughly a 20-30% difference in concern with Democrats expressing more concern. Could be a urban vs. more rural thing, but such a differnce can’t bode well for us.

  9. The $1.5 Trillion in Quantitative Easing to deal with the fallout of trying to shut down a $100 Million a year line item is maddening. It will be a campaign issue for the rest of the primary and general election.

  10. I track in the somewhat category. In the last month I have been on planes, worked in hospitals and clinics in Seattle, Portland, Lodi and Sacramento and currently working on Phoenix at a hospital.

I was always a little ocd with handwashing considering the environments I work in, but since this started I am a little beyond ocd.
