* I stocked up on a lot of things, got a bunch of important stuff taken care of, but I didn’t get a haircut and neither did Oscar. Oops…
With barbershops and salons closed throughout the state, some Illinoisans are wondering what they can do with their hair until the governor’s stay-at-home order expires on April 7. Salons and tattoo shops are among the nonessential businesses that have been closed in Illinois to slow the spread COVID-19. Both expect pent up demand when they’re allowed to open back up.
* Dentists will also be booked solid when this thing finally ends…
To Our Ruggless Dental Patient Family, We wanted to provide you with a quick update on the status of our practice. Governor Pritzker has extended the “stay at home” order until April 7th. Following that announcement, the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS) also released a recommendation for dental offices to avoid all elective dental care until April 7th. Here at Ruggless dental, we prioritize the safety of our patients, staff, and the community, and are going to continue to follow the recommendations set forth by the ISDS. If you have an appointment scheduled with us between now and April 8th, we will be contacting you to reschedule. As a reminder, we still remain available for any dental emergencies. If you are experiencing dental pain or a dental emergency please do not hesitate to call our office! We have staff available to answer phones and offer assistance.

It’s out of my control. There’s no way I could change it. If I could change something it would be that my dog had not suddenly taken ill and died March 10th. Working at home without him is tough. Time is healing, but it feels like time is standing still.
Please keep the uplifting stories coming.

I forgot to get a new package of contacts, and I’m down to one extra pair left.Not sure if eye care is non-essential or not but it’s something I need to find out. Definitely should’ve taken care of this before hand. I’m nearly blind as well (-9 in each eye) so most of the time they need to be ordered.

Nothing much I can think of. Maybe buy a new thermometer since I can’t find our digital oral one, and now the stores are sold out. I’ve resorted to using my garage automotive temp gun which is a bit less accurate, but good enough.
We always have stockpiles of paper goods because we help the kids out when they run short of money; they know they can raid us if they need to. We keep a full pantry and freezer from habit; my dad was a seasonal worker and that full pantry got the family through the winter.
Only been to the store for perishable items and prescriptions … and Pepsi, can’t live without my fix even if it is duet and caffeine free.
My wife insisted on getting a haircut the Friday before the shutdown. Her salon was closed but the barbershop I use was open, so we both got one; shop was empty. I usually tip him but this time I voluntarily paid double since I told him he would probably be shut down next week.

My family raised and bred hunting dogs and I’ve had to put down quite a few. Sorry for your loss, but there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel (adoption or otherwise perhaps for a new best friend). Just know I’m sure your pup is RIP (Resting In Pets).
To the post, I’d would have gotten a few more computer monitors and a better chair. Dining room tables aren’t the most conducive for full day sitting and working.

I would have qualified before the closure in a State Police District that was conducting retiree shoots. I received this e-mail from the D-5 range officer. Approximately 100 retirees were scheduled for April 8th.

Unfortunately I have been notified by ISP Pawnee (Springfield) that all retiree shoots in April need be cancelled. I understand the concerns with the cancelation and the need to recertify. I have made several dates in my schedule available for when things change and we are permitted to start scheduling again. I have also asked ISP Pawnee to inquire about an expiration extention case this goes beyond April.

FoTP - Eye care is essential - my eye doctor is open (but pretty booked - two weeks for a normally 1-week follow-up checkup on what turned out to be dry eye ducts). CHeck your doc/call around and good luck to you.
So far I’ve been lucky to be able to get most material things I need - I guess I wish I had a couple more dinners with friends.

I’m good. Have everything I need to be comfortable for a while. Pets do make staying at home more enjoyable. My sympathy to Dog lover above who just lost their dog.

I sort of thought the purchasing limit of commodities came a little late in the game. Other than that, I think that Governor Pritzker is really doing a pretty good job. As a State employee, I also think that DoIT has, and continues to to do, a tremendous job under the crazy timeframe of getting employees remote access.

I would have left the chicken wing alone that caused my front tooth filling to come out. Because of the dental restrictions, I get to walk around looking like Mortimer Snurd, until this thing is over,

Made a Costco run earlier. We always buy bulk TP and paper towel and just happened to be running low when all this hit. The corner store TP does makes me feel like I am back at the office.
Also, would have brought more things back from the office. (Second computer monitor, some files) They are not necessary so I don’t want to go in to get them, but they would make my life a lot easier.

@RNUG I had same issue, I was able to order 2 off of Menards website, I scoured the web for it. Hopefully they have a few in stock, fingers crossed.

I wish we had a way to support some of our local businesses directly.
I asked my barber to set up a way for me to pay for a “virtual haircut.” While some services will recapture lost business (like dental work), others our lost forever (like haircuts).
I’d like a way to give virtual tips to restaurant servers…

I’m not in IL (hence my handle), but grocery stores haven’t been terrible except for toilet paper and bread, and even then, stores are limiting purchase sizes. So the main thing I would have done is visited older relatives I’m staying away from now. Oh and get a haircut.

I wished I would have gone earlier to the dentist. Fortunately, he is finishing up the work on a crown this week. The medical docs and others will be slammed after this….

What I find amazing is that you can find milk everywhere. American diets are much different than when we were raising the family.

I would have a few more weeks of essentials on hand at home. I have always tried to keep a 2 month stock of those things. I was working out of state, 2 time zones away when things went crazy. Made it home a few days now out again to work. I work with medical equipment which is going to keep me busy it seems.

Not much. I had us stocked and ready for six weeks of isolation back in mid-February (I am proud of my TP stockpile). It was obvious by then that this was no SARS or MERS, that it had the potential to be a pandemic.
However, I would have stocked more Diet Coke.

My timing has been pretty good on things. Annual visit to the oncologist was in January. I went to the dentist about 3-4 weeks ago, both cats had their annual vet visits two weeks ago, and about a month ago I decided to let my hair grow out (I usually wear it *very* short).

would have followed my instincts that kicked in a while ago and done a pantry inventory. the husband told me I was crazy to think that something in China would come here and cause shortages. also wish I had purchased gear to fish.

Not much. Turns out social distancing pretty much defines our lifestyle. Only a couple things we can’t do now - go to the gym, play indoor soccer, or sit down at restaurant. Can still golf if the weather would cooperate.

I highly recommend NOT golfing during this time.
You don’t realize how many germs, airborne and otherwise, you will run into during this time.
Flagstick, tees, carts, (even your own pull cart)
Even if Tom Cross himself called to invite me to play nine holes, I’d sadly decline. It’s that serious

I didn’t get a haircut either but I have a pair of Wahl clippers from my navy days.
I do wish I had gotten my bike tires repaired though. Really wishing I could go out biking.

OW, courses are not allowing golf carts. Flags must stay in the cup, ball washers and water jugs removed. In fact anything that more than one person could touch has been removed from the equation. To the contrary, Golf may be one of the safest recreational activities to do right now. Pending you do it with little to no other people.

I don’t know how I could have planned for this pandemic, but I’m always prepared for minor setbacks. I just hope we (my family) will manage, no matter how long it lasts.

I went to the office on the 16th, been working remotely since. I went to the grocery store over the weekend, that’s the only time I’ve been out of the house.

I golf alone. Yea with nobody else… and when I golf alone, I prefer to be by myself. Down here it is easy peezy to play as a single at most public courses.
