* Six more weeks of winter, if you actually believe in a certain groundhog’s ability to predict future weather patterns. I liked the movie, though.

Anyway, keep it local, keep it polite. Thanks.

  1. Can someone ask John Amdor what the stats on accuracy of the Groundhog Day predictions are?

  2. I am perfectly willing to believe a large rat’s weather forecast. If nothing else the last year has taught us that Science is overrated. S/

  9. Such a silly custom.

the first day of spring is always 6 weeks from groundhog day.

The tradition is set on the calendar on one of the cross-quarter days. The midpoint between a solstice and an equinox. May 1st, July 1st, and October 31st are the other cross quarter days. You may recognize them as holidays with other more contemporary names.

  10. The film “Groundhog Day”, the story behind that story, the making of the film, the fallout between Harold Ramis and Bill Murray, it’s really a fascinating thing, including the original thoughts to the screenplay and “how long”, how many times did the day allegedly repeat.

Not as cool as the backstory (and stories) of the “Blues Brothers”, but it’s really worth the time to look back at that and then watch the film.

Woodstock made a heck of a backdrop too.

  11. The quarry where Phil met one of his demises is less than a quarter mile from where I’m sitting right now. Just wanted to share that.

  12. Loved the movie.

With the recent snowfall and 6 more weeks of winter, isn’t this the right place to talk about dibs. jk

6 more weeks of winter is an appropriate continuation of 2020. Here’s to better days ahead….

  13. On an unrelated note, do not underestimate the value of just chatting with some people you normally don’t get to talk to on zoom for 30 minutes.
Got to do that yesterday after a non-work meeting and man did it improve my attitude.

  14. A winter prediction? It’s going to be cold, it’s going to be gray, and it’s going to last for the rest of your life.

  15. we don’t trust science, but we trust a rodent to tell us how much longer winter is going to be?

    Okay.

  16. Great movie. I actually had a groundhog day experience trying to see it. It was sold out the first two times I went to a theater. Third time was a charm.

  17. Darn … I don’t want six more weeks of winter. I just found out this morning the newer convertible I’m buying my wife is shipping today instead of in the 2 weeks they had predicted.

  21. To Groundhog Day (banned punct.) Sorta like Illinois politics: Deja Vu all over again. And about how many times I’d need to get it right with any woman. Well, at least I won’t havta shovel 10 inches of snow again. :)

  22. Will the IHSA’s Anderson be just as fast to give the credit to “protest movement” if cases spike and they have shut everything down again?

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Feb 2, 21 @ 11:02 am

  23. The IHSA is about 2-3 bad PR decisions away from not existing.

If this pandemic proved anything, the leadership at least at the IHSA cares so little about student athletes during a pandemic, and are overly selfish without thinking how this virus is going, which is uncontrolled and can be deadly.

But, “yea Craig Anderson”… with revenues more important than lives.

  25. Both St. Patrick’s Day parades in Chicago have already been cancelled.

One would think Springfield would follow and already preemptively cancel their parade too.
