“I know people are questioning whether Barry Bonds took steroids — or Roger Clemens. Fine. They spent $5 or $10 million on that investigation. It was a waste of money. Why don’t they focus on the foreclosure issue like we’re focusing on it here?” Daley said.

The latest annual rankings by Tradeshow Week magazine come amid intense competition among cities for a bigger share of the lucrative convention business. 1. Fellow GOPers: Please convince Oberweis to get off the ballot. He is a true embarrassment. He needs to go ASAP. Let the search for his replacement start now!

  2. Regarding the convention story, the big shows measured here are cyclical, for the most part alternating among cities. So the Big Three cities can be up or down a spot in any one year. That said, weather advantages, and especially, cheap labor in Las Vegas and Orlando hurt Chicago, which still is tops in location and travel convenience.

The real issue is that the big shows are merging and/or dying because of technological advances and corporate travel cutbacks. The growth in the industry is in smaller educational and association meetings. That’s a problem for Chicago and traditional convention cities; there’s been a building boom in convention center that can accommodate these smaller meetings. More competitors chasing less business.

  3. Chicago/Cook county continue to price themselves out of the convention market with too high of local fees and taxes. This wrigley deal will just continue down the road to ruin for the city. Its a shame….

  4. Rather than closing the barn door after the horses left and worrying about the mortgage crisis, lets make sure that the reverse mortgage hucksters don’t rip off the elderly!

  5. S-GOP,

While I agree with you, might I point out that Obie would never agree to do that (he knows & doesn’t care that no one REALLY wants him), and that there doesn’t seem to be a link to an Obie story in “Morning Shorts.”

  6. Oh, and best wishes to Rep. Rush for a speedy recovery.

  7. That’s because they are all under the question of the day. Look there for Obie.
