Justice Mary Kay O’Brien has always believed when Illinois courts are fair - We all rise. Her courtroom is a place where rights and freedoms are protected fairly.

From growing up on an Illinois farm to being an Appellate Court Justice, she’s devoted her career to fighting for fairness

Now, with Roe v. Wade being overturned, women’s freedom to choose in Illinois is at risk.

Justice O’Brien is endorsed by Personal PAC and other pro-choice groups.

I first met Mary Kay O’Brien in 1997 when she became State Rep. I was a Dem staffer. She was very nice, knowledgeable, and more importantly, she was not self-centered and treated people fairly. Good luck Mary Kay O’Brien.

She is trying to appeal to rural voters as well as pro-choice voters. Overall, a very good add.

That shot of her picking up the pen, just as the voice over gets to Roe; it that in slow motion? Just a little? The ad nicely underscores the idea that a woman should be making those decisions, while also showcasing her rural roots.

The language choices for the voice over are particularly good. This is a well written, appealing introductory spot. I give it an A.

I have known Mary Kay and her family since 1991. A stalwart supporter of working families, she has always stood for fair, area wages and (is still) a smart, insightful pro-moderate.

Great ad. Tough to campaign for judge. Down ballot, can’t express an opinion about issues, large districts. This ad should help.

As an attorney, I’ve always hated the idea that judges running for office (or being confirmed in the US Senate) are supposed to pretend they don’t have opinions on policy issues. Huge swaths of ambiguity in laws (and how to handle common law issues, or constitutional issues) are resolved largely based on the policy opinions of the jurists involved.

If you’re going to have elected judges, then voters 100% deserve to know where judges stand on things relevant to their work.

D+. It’s decent production which keeps it from an F but it’s about as bland an uninspiring as an ad can be. What is more important to the political cottage industry is that TV ad makers get paid and that results in clients getting “creative” like this which is some of the most unoriginal stuff I’ve truly ever seen.

Mary Kay was an excellent State Rep, is an excellent judge, and has always been an excellent campaigner. Running for judge is tough because you aren’t supposed to commit to any issues; so, how do you make an ad? This does a pretty good job threading that needle. Given the constraints, I give it an A.

It’s ok. I’d give it a C+. Doesn’t really break through. Feels kind of basic. Like a lot we’ve seen before.

MK O’Brien.
Love her to bits. During her time in the general assembly she demonstrated a steady hand and a perfect temperament for the Supreme Court. Illinois will have a stellar Justice in Mary Kay…but Democrats must vote all they way down the ballot.
