McCarthy’s lawyer, Patrick Deady, said a three-judge appellate panel that last week affirmed the men’s convictions had nearly “obliterated” previous limits placed on mail fraud. Deady and his co-counsel argue that none of the men personally gained from the scheme, which they say would have been required under the court’s previous interpretation of the mail fraud statute’s “honest services” provision.

There is both irony and incredible opportunity for snark in the Gov’s creation of an equal pay day in Illinois, especillay on the heels of the Ata plea.

“In 2003, Blagojevich signed the Illinois Equal Pay Act, which requires that men and women be paid the same wages for the same work. Since the law took effect, the Illinois Department of Labor has received 314 complaints and won more than $91,000 in back wages for employees.”
Wow….more than $91,000…….

When do we get new Illinois License Plates? I thought the reflectivity was only guaranteed for five years.
Isn’t about time they’re replaced since we’ve had them seven years and counting?

Equal pay day is a joke. Merit comp workers with more service time have been passed by union workers in pay, and the merit comp may be in charge of the union worker. Go figure.

So if I give $50,000 to the Blagojevich Fund [Re-election OR Defense], I too can get paid $127,000 for my state job?? Wish I hadn’t left state employment in 2006 now. Is it too late to apply?

Re Con-con: Did Miller write the headline, or as usually happens, did the editor? His article really doesn’t indicate that he feels the way the headline reads, it is more of a recap about what is going on; great explanation, but no opinion. Please elaborate further.

I disagree on Con-Con, Rich. These are ugly times, with rampant special interests. I do not see a coherant constitution coming out of a 2009-10 convention, and even if the group comes up with a proposal, the voters will reject it - as at least one previous Con-Con document has been rejected in our State’s history.
Stay with what we have, and go with three or four amendments for the voters. Our 1970 Constitution has been amended numerous times as needs have been articulated.

Does anybody know anything about IDOT shutting down? I have heard May 1 as the day for turning off the lights and locking the doors.

The Children’s Museum is becoming this year’s “Big Box” in the same manner a leaky faucet is this year’s Katrina.
Daley cares. Reilly cares. The Tribune cares. The Museum people care. The 42nd Ward cares.
Everyone else…not so much.

Thumbs-up for the witty, mildly snarky, but not stooping to their level (I guess stooping wouldn’t get one low enough, but you know what I mean) response to the loons at Illinois Review.
