  3. Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. Chosen as the best beer in America at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The beer won the Great American Beer contest of 2006 as the best lager. Nuff said.

  12. Just like music and books, it depends on my mood. On a hot day after I mow the lawn, an O’Dell’s Easy Street Wheat (unfiltered hefeweizen microbrew from Ft. Collins, CO) or a New Belgium Fat Tire (also a microbrew from Ft. Collins, but an amber ale). If I’m not hot, and just want something relaxed, it’s got to be a pint of Guinness.

  13. Tecate, but “chelada” style. Add ice, lime juice, salt, a dash of hot sauce and a dash of soy sauce. Tastes a lot better than it sounds and much more refreshing on a hot summer day.

  15. Chimay Trappist Ale, though I also like the Fat Tire, and a Dos Equis is nice, or if I’m really wanting a rich, dark beer, an Optimator (or even Leinie’s Big Butt) doppelbock is pure heaven.

  18. New Belgian also makes 1550, a “go-to” in my estimation. Also, Indian Pale Ales are very nice on a hot and humid summer day.

  30. Bell’s Amber. Thank you so very much Union Liquor for making it impossible to get in Illinois. In summer, I switch to their Oberon, also not available in Illinois. Despite the, imho, puerile humor of the label, Flying Dog Pale Ale.

  31. I’m a seasonal kinda guy. Corona or Leinie’s Honey Weiss is great in summer. Buffalo Bill’s Pumpkin Ale in fall. Goose Island’s Russian Imperial Stout is the perfect winter beer. Two Brothers Domain DuPage French Country Ale for spring.

  54. Wisconsin flows not only with Cheese and bratwurst, but some of the best micro-brews I’ve encountered. A newer brewery just west of Madison is Furthermore. If you ever find yourself north of the border pick-up a six pack at just about any local gas station. Fave brew: Furthermore, Knot Stock.

  60. During the college days it was either Rhinelander or Schaefer Light….about $3 a 12 pack back in the late ’80s. We missed out on the microbrew craze…we just wanted to get hammered!
    Now, when I do head to Moe’s for a few it’s usually bud light or, most recently, bud select. (Being a Waukegan native I have to blend in down by STL.)

    Sorry A-B supporter….it looks like the company will be bought. That will be Bad for the area.

  66. Michelob Ultra Lime and Cactus, never seen it in a bar, hard to find in a liqour store, but it is soooo smooth and tasty.

    Close seconds Landshark, Mickeys Big Mouths, Rolling Rock, High Life, PBR, OLD STYLE, Wait

    Thats why my abrtenders hate me, I switch hit my brews, but the Mich is the best!

  72. The best beer I ever tasted was on a very hot summer day while baling hay - it was an ice cold Blatz of all things. Hell, any beer would have tasted good that day, but the taste was memorable. Do they even make it anymore?

    These days I switch hit from Guinness to Goose Island to Sam Adams to Amstel Light with an occasional foray south of the border for a Corona with lime.

  73. Wow, too hard to break this one down. Hard to go wrong with anything by New Glarus, Bell’s, Summit, Three Floyds, Flying Dog, James Page, New Belgium or even Goose Island.

    But really it’s all about context. At a Mexican joint, give me a Negra Modelo in cold weather; a Sol if it’s hot. And at Wrigley, of course, Old Style’s the only way to go.

  75. Depends on the weather. Colder weather (or drinking inside) I go with Guinness. For hot weather, I prefer Red Stripe.

  78. Wow, and here I figured the most popular brand would be “Free”! I think that speaks volumes for this group.

    Moslon Golden gets high marks from me as does some Pakistani beer with “lion” in the name I bought a couple months ago.

  83. Right now I have within my refrigerator chilled Longhammer IPA, Guinness, Imperial, Miller High Life, Gennessee, and a three year old Bud Light someone accidentially brought to the house and no one is willing to drink.

    My favorite though is Jever. My university beer from Jever Deutschland. Like an IPA, but made with Frieslandische herbs.

    And anything fresh from a microbrewery is heavenly.

    Bell’s Oberon is great this time of year.

  92. Snowflake. A Chinese beer. Drunk first at dinner brought by a economic development delegation from Beijing and second at a restaurant in Steamboat. Never found any place else. I’m pretty sure its unavailability has made its taste legendary in my mind.

    As long as it’s cold….

    In the fridge now - Berghoff, MGD, Lite. Also like Bohemian, Heineken, Becks, Stella Artois, etc when I’m out with the Mrs.

    Depends on the meal/occasion.

  107. Anything in a bottle or can as long as I’m enjoying it with friends! I do tend to lean a bit toward Tsingtao. It was brewed by the Germans in China prior to WW1 and is China’s largest beer export. Tastes similar to Heineken.

  115. Lots of good ones out there. New Belgium’s Blue Paddle, Guinness in the tall cans, August Schell’s Pilsner, Anchor Steam, Becks, Amstel Light, Newcastle to name a few. Most of the Goose Island products are pretty good, and their root beer is outstanding.

  116. Bass is the only way to go. I still don’t understand people drinking beer out of a clear bottle or with fruit or any “beer” that needs to be imbibed at 32.5 degrees or less to taste OK. Like any light beer.

  119. Honest Abe suggested Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. I would humbly suggest to Old Abe that only Will County Democrats drink PBR and they do so out in their tool sheds when no one else is looking. Honest Abe’s neighbors have always referred to PBR as “skunk beer” back when they used to drink it with their buddies in the 1960s.
    Now, if Honest Abe was a good Irishman (which he is despite being a Democrat)and wasn’t so cheap, he would be drinking a decent Irish beer such as “Smithwick’s” with his neighbors.
