  1. Ahhhh…..payback is hell. Now us Cubbies get to lick our wounds and wait for the battle in St. Loo-ser this weekend.

Hope you enjoyed the games, Rich. I know I sure didn’t :-(

  2. I saw the headline and my first thought was “funds sweep”. Guess this is much better!

Comment by Duckguy Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:30 pm

  3. Is the new Stadium is all, can’t expect the cubbies to do well in that run down field they call a ballpark.

Comment by Ghost Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:33 pm

  4. Great to see Thome get a big hit last night. Ozzie needs to sit him more against lefties once Konerko comes back.

    Comment by 2for2 Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:37 pm

  5. Ghost, the Cub home record proves they have trouble playing anywhere other than their Little League park.

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:38 pm

  6. Ah, summer. The typical end of typical Cub fans’ hopes.

Comment by Next Year Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:38 pm

  7. And the Cards were finally able to get wins while the Cubbies lost.

2 1/2 games, and the Cards have been playing with a blown apart patchwork pitching staff and without Albert for a couple weeks. Hanging close enough to be there when the inevitable crash comes!

Saw the other day Marquis got off to his usual abysmal second half a bit early. Darn. Fun weekend.

Comment by Amuzing Myself Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:41 pm

  8. Let’s just hope this weekend’s sweep jump starts the rest of the season for the Sox. The other teams in their division gained some momentum against those mediocre NL teams. It’s going to be tough.

Comment by GA Watcher Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:42 pm

  9. Heaven…I’m in heaven!!! With so many challenges facing Americans today, it is good to know that all has been made right in Chicago baseball.

Don’t hate, appreciate the high rollin’ South Siders!

Comment by Black Ivy Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:43 pm

  10. Congrats Rich and to the White Slobs for evening-up the season series. See you in October, if the south siders make it that far.

I guess this means the winner of the All Star game has added significance in Chicago this year.
Go NL! The Cubs are going to need home field advantage in the World Series this year.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:44 pm

  11. A Cub fan saying “See you in October…” ???
    Now that’s rich.

Comment by You Can Put It On The Board Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:48 pm

  12. I think the commenter meant “See u on TV in October”

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:51 pm

  13. This is the year. it’s only a warm up for the fall. Cubs took a few days off, ready to go. Great year for the cubs to play the sox 7 times in Wrigley.

Comment by frustrated GOP Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 12:57 pm

  14. Rich, I always held you and this site as classy and decent. This is disgusting. You had young Kevin nearly in tears, fearful of posting anything about last weekend’s good weekend for the Cubs. Now this? I am happy for both teams, they are in first place and the Sox needed this series more as the Twins are hot and right behind them.

AS for the home-away, that is a theme across MLB. A Chicago W/S means more money for the city/area.

Rich, keep this up and I will have Kevin file a lawsuit that you make it an unsafe enviornment. Also, I will lead a en masse migration to the Huffington Site once it is set up

  16. I do have to give Sweet Lou props for getting thrown out last night. Its been awhile since I saw a good managerial screaming and yelling session. While it was no Cito Gaston, it was still enjoyable.

Heres some more Lou ejection video if interested.

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 1:01 pm

  18. true, but the right Sox are rated as having the second highest advantage at home, poor cubbis are down at number 6 for home games

  20. I attended games at both parks and realize that there are many idiots out there are both sides. Did you know the all time series was tied before last nights’ game? You can’t beat fun at the old ballpark!

  23. Cubs: .598
    Sox: .568

    End of story.

Comment by David Starrett Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 1:22 pm

  24. While the cross town series is at three to three the only reason the Sox has got a leg up is because they won that world series in 2005. But then we’ll see who’s in the playoffs in October.

Comment by Levois Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 1:28 pm

  25. Rich, since the begining of interleague play neither tem has bragging rights. They are 33 - 33 dead even. I was fun to see Crede watch the ball go between his legs!!! LOL

Comment by Dan S, a voter and Cubs Fan Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 1:36 pm

  26. RBI’s from the Crosstown Classic:

    Cubs - 31
    White Sox - 32

We don’t need to wait for the All-Star break or October.

To quote Mike Madigan: “Numbers don’t lie.”

    Sox win.

  28. Now all you die-hard Sox fans can go back to not showing up at the Cell.

  29. This is disgusting. You had young Kevin nearly in tears, fearful of posting anything about last weekend’s good weekend for the Cubs. Now this?

Sometimes you’re the boss and sometimes you’re the intern, life ain’t fair. If it was it wouldn’t take the Cubs 100 years to win a World Series. It’d take much longer than that.

Comment by Anon Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 2:09 pm

  30. YDD (1:36p) has it right.

In order to win a baseball game, one team must score at least one more run by game’s end than the other team.

Same goes for an evenly scheduled series (each hosting same number of games).

Bottom line — and no matter that I’m a lifelong Cubs fan — is that the White Sox won the overall, fair and square.

Heckuva series any way you slice it. Can’t argue with reality (and if you think you can, you have way too much time on your hands).

Personally, I think the fans are the real winners.

Comment by irishpirate Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 3:05 pm

  37. Well la de da!! You and your girls in black + gray finally put a winning streak together, and you act like you put a man on Mars.

I think I liked it better when Fanning was manning the blog.

Talk to me in October Miller. (Unless by some fluke of nature, the Cubs are out of it and the Sox aren’t. In which case, I don’t want to hear anything from you. Nothing. Zip.)

    I hate bad winners. :)

    The Representative has a point…

Comment by Kevin Fanning Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 3:41 pm

  40. Hey Reed Johnson Feedbag, is that really the best you have? Is that all you can come up with? Even the real Cub fans get embarrassed by that kind of statement. If you can’t argue baseball then just don’t argue. The whole “we out draw the Sox so we are better” thing was never a good response. Certainly never a clever one. But since 2005 it really became sad and pathetic.

    Comment by 2for2 Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 3:49 pm

  41. The Pale Ones manage to catch up to the North Siders and you’re ecstatic? Which team swept first? And which one still has the better record?

Now go back to your regularly scheduled, taxpayer-funded tee-ball.

(And who let the Cards fans in here?)

    Comment by Rob_N Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 3:50 pm

  42. I always get paranoid when I read these threads. Replace the names according to some “secret code” hidden in the day’s sports pages and you could be talking about current events in Illinois politics. lol

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 3:55 pm

  43. Not to say that Rich would EVER chime in so many times in a political discussion on his blog.

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 4:00 pm

  44. And what the Sox began the Cardinals can wrap up next weekend. End the myth of Cubs success early.

Then we can settle back for a second half and a most excellent Cards-Sox World Series.

By then Capt. Fax will have bled enough advertisers to get his own sky box and invite his most loyal posters to suck down his booze and crab fritters.
    Go Cards
    Go Sox

  45. lol AND my lack of knowledge when it comes to baseball and probably politics overall. STOP!!!

  46. 3-3 against the Cubs this season is ruling? Are those South Side standards?

Comment by Anon Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 4:47 pm

  47. In the world series, they won’t be using a minor league umping crew like we saw this weekend. Which means all the calls won’t be homer calls.

    A second-rate crew for a second-rate park.

Comment by Easy Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 4:58 pm

  48. Things will be different after Mark Cuban buys the Cubs…but only then.

I’ve been a Sox fan since the days when the Chicago Cardinals wintered at old Comiskey Park Until this week their batting averages were in the toilet and even Caros Quentin’s was falling off the table. Pirate an Cub pitching were just the ticket.

But Ive got to say that the Pinella acquisition has rejuvenated the Cubbies. They are not going to fade. No August swoon and the old “September salary drive.” They still need another first line pitcher to get to the WS.

My Sox will make it too, provided that the closer stays as lucky as he was yesterday.

Comment by Truthful James Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 5:02 pm

  49. they most certainly do not…it’s tied Richie

Comment by Loop Lady Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 5:34 pm

  50. As long as Floyd and Danks keep pitching how they are, I don’t see the Sox slipping. The Twins were just beating up on the wors team in baseball (Padres) and another weak NL Central team (Brewers) I think the Sox will be able to hold them off. The Cubs have som issues with their pitching, most notably Zambrano’s health and Dempster’s road woes. Lilly, Marquis, and whoever else pitches for them aren’t that good and everyone knows that. If any team is going to falter in the 2nd half, the logical choice would be the Cubbies!

Comment by He Gone Monday, Jun 30, 08 @ 5:38 pm

  51. This year the Cubs have a “C” on their caps. 100 years of futility.

Next year it will be “CI”. 101 years of futility.

Go Cards!! Can’t wait for the THRASHING of the Cubs that will take place this weekend. Ending with a Zambrano blow-up.

  57. Dan S, at least if TOny L is gov, he’d have a driver/pilot.

Ozzie would tell the legislature similar things (in similar language) that we, the voters are thinking

Lou would be likeable, but boring with an occasional kicking of dirt on Emil Jones and Mike Madigan

Comment by Wumpus Tuesday, Jul 1, 08 @ 9:00 am

  58. lol Not knowing ANYTHING about baseball and assuming that Ozzie has the “range of personality” to go with the great name, I’d vote for Ozzie.
