  5. Beautiful song, lovely in its simplicity. Who is the singer? It’s not clear on my monitor. Have a good time tonight, you deserve it and thanks for all your work.

  8. Rich - how long until Quinn is sworn in? How long can Illinois go without having a Governor?

Comment by Jechislo Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:13 pm

  9. maybe we can follow it up with a sox park style…Na na na na …hey hey GOODBYE!

A GREAT DAY FOR THE CONSITUTION AND THE PEOPLE OF ILLINOIS!

  10. I just wanted to add my thanks, Rich, for all your incredibly hard work over the last two months. As someone commented earlier, you really do have the best interests of the state at heart. I hope you can go back to that beach for a while now!

Comment by Ann Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:15 pm

  11. You can’t go to the Alamo! There’s a new governor to be sworn in, and I suspect he will be up late tonight issuing executive orders. No rest for the weary Rich.

I’m not in Springfield, I need to know what’s going on! I’ll be watching illinois.gov to see how quickly they change the web site.

Comment by Pot calling kettle Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:15 pm

  12. There is no interim. The Governor is Pat Quinn. He took office when the Chief Justice dropped the gavel.

Comment by Big Mac Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:16 pm

  13. Sad day; joyous day. Sad for IL; sad for the former gov. & his family; sad watching the security detail leave; he must be very isolated now; but he did bring all this on himself; joyuous if we can only hope for and see better days in IL.

  20. Great job Rich. I’m in Florida and the 1st thing I signed-on to today was your website. I’ve switched back-and-forth between you and ABC Chicago channel 7 and all day. I watched the Senate proceedings live on Channel 7 and read your blog for the inside info. What great coverage you provided!

Comment by Jechislo Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:25 pm

  23. It really is for the better. I feel for his family. Heck, I even feel for him (social service types, you know.) But fundamentally he was incapable of governing and the GA did its duty.

  24. And thank you, Rich for those of us who can’t yet afford to subscribe, your generosity was much appreciated.

  29. I imagine that the state employees who have endured these past six years are celebrating. Let them party and then change the website and signs as needed.

Comment by Nearly Normal Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:50 pm

  30. I must echo what others are saying in comments….great job covering all of this since Dec 9th!

Comment by scoot Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:51 pm

  31. What “Rod Sez” said! I’d spend my tax break from Obama on it, but I ‘m going to have to use that money when my IL taxes go up.

I’m at whatever the Alamo is in spirit. What a party that’s going to be.

Comment by Lefty Lefty Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 5:52 pm

  32. Watching the new gov on C-SPAN shaking hands with people in the Capitol. Recognized many senators of both parties offering their congrats.

  36. Wish I could be there. Thanks for all the coverage. This site fills what is otherwise a huge void in coverage of state politics.

So many now feel so relieved that it’s all over.

Comment by Angry Chicagoan Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 6:11 pm

  37. Thanks Rich. Quinn claims he’s headed to the mansion for dinner and he’s got his mom in town, so I guess you can have the rest of the evening off!

Enjoy! It should be an interesting session.

  38. Rich, MM, KFan, — December 9, 2008. How long ago that must seem. Maybe not your Pearl Harbor, but certainly a day that will live in infamy.

Incredible work these weeks. A great public service.

  39. illinois.gov now shows Pat Quinn - how about that…

    Comment by iflyrc0 Thursday, Jan 29, 09 @ 6:56 pm

  40. Rich - Thanks just doesn’t seem to be enough, but Thanks will have to do. Thanks for being the very needed voice of reason. Thanks for putting your life virtually on hold for the last few months to keep the junkies sated. I can’t imagine what this would have been like without you and your marvelous cast of bloggers.

By the way, the gov’s website has been down at least 15 minutes. Page cannot be found…

  42. On behalf of the 35 he got on his first day in office January 13, 2003, we can only say “Rod,what goes around, comes around! Your imassioned pleas for fairness remind us that you did not care one whit about the hardship you caused real people in state government. You have reaped what you have sowed.”

  43. Rich, I am new to your blog and just wanted to echo the thanks and compliments. Great job under touch circumstances!
