RRB is still in denial

Tuesday, Sep 12, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I basically stopped listening to Channel 5’s story about its interview with Rod Blagojevich when the reporter introduced the piece with this

He is the same Rod you remember and he absolutely maintains his innocence.

* Roundup…

* Blago: His life in prison

* Blagojevich: Mops, sings, jokes — accepts ‘fate … assigned to me’

* 10 things we learned from Blagojevich interview

* Tribune Editorial: Why every Illinois politician should read Blagojevich’s words

Looking at the picture of Rod makes me wonder if JB would be better off if he stopped dyeing his hair. Grey would be more statesmanly than the unnatural Jet black he’s sporting.

  2. - Linus - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:36 am:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  3. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:37 am:

Rod cracking wise about floors and government was vintage Blago… and while terribly amusing, it’s terrible to see Rod really hasn’t learned much in his own persona in 5 years.

  4. - Scott Cross for President - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:39 am:

Amazing piece by author David Bernstein. Gave a great behind the scenes of Blago in prison, without giving Blago an open mike to settle scores, etc. A must read.

  5. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:40 am:

The Chicago Mag interview was pretty interesting, focusing on the nuts and bolts of he and Patti’s lives now. I still have no sympathy for them, but find their current circumstances interesting.

  6. - Fax Machine - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:40 am:

I’m surprised Blago hasn’t written a book (or 2) since he’s gone to jail.

  7. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:52 am:

I did chuckle at Patti being creeped out by Gov. Quinn going in for a hug.

  8. - Curl of the Burl - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:57 am:

I really, really, really hope that at some point in the near future Steve Carell is tapped to play Blago in a biopic. Someone needs to make it happen.

  9. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 9:58 am:

===“I have written something like 12 to 15 incomplete essays so far,” says Blagojevich.===

    Sounds about right.

  10. - Saluki - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 10:18 am:

I wish everyday that someone would conduct a Rod Blagojevich vs Rauner poll. If the election were held today…..

  11. - Ray del Camino - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 10:20 am:

    Ignore.

  12. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 10:39 am:

He can be same Ol’ Rod of the Rockies until 2024.

I wonder what motivated the Blagos to grant interviews now. Maybe they think Rod’s old boss will pair a commutation/pardon for him with some others he might be considering,

He’s got nothing but time to dream.

===“I have written something like 12 to 15 incomplete essays so far,” says Blagojevich.===

Reminds of Hollywood agent character played by Martin Short in THE BIG PICTURE saying to Kevin Bacon’s character: “I’ve read almost all of them, almost all of the way through…”

  14. - Newsclown - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 10:55 am:

They both remain unrepentant and defiant, so I can’t hold much sympathy. I can only feel regret for the daughters. They didn’t ask for any of this; their parents pursued it. Chose it. In the article they talk about the girls seeing their dad less and less, and paying less attention to his messages. I think it’s because they are figuring out for themselves, who he was and is, and that he’s not really changing, just waiting and trying to jive everybody while he’s doing his stretch.

  15. - Responsa - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 10:59 am:

Everything else aside, lotsa middle aged men I know would kill for that full head of hair.

  16. - RIJ - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 11:12 am:

The Trib should look at its own lack of ethics before it goes lecturing others. They were pushing to ignore the Illinois Constitution when it suited them.

  17. - igotgotgotgotnotime - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 11:12 am:

Blago uses the same rationale you see from the Trump White House; In your heart, you know we’re just too darn incompetent to be guilty of anything.

  18. - Stones - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 11:29 am:

Blago still shows no contrition. He and he alone is responsible for his lengthy sentence. Had he taken some responsibility at his sentencing hearing he probably wouldn’t be in nearly the dire situation he finds himself in. I feel compassion for his kids but he put them in this position.

  19. - Keyrock - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 11:52 am:

Let’s lift our glasses to the memory of Bill.

  20. - Quizzical - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 11:56 am:

I almost missed Rod. His brand of buffoonery and corruption seem so twee and innocent compared to DJT. However, I was almost sick watching Rod’s self-righteousness and shameless references to the suffering of his children.

  21. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 12:06 pm:

I can’t believe he still has nine years left on his sentence. It seems like he’s been gone a long time by now, and spending your 60th birthday in prison must be horrible beyond words.

But yeah, as soon as I read his defiant protestation of his innocence, I had to stop reading. My best guess is that a Presidential commutation is his only chance for an early exit. And we all know President Trump hates losers, so Rod might be continuing his “I did nothing wrong” schtick to please the man for whom he was once an apprentice.

It didn’t work for Rod on the TV show, maybe it’ll work now. Regardless, it’s his only play, but it turns me off completely. I say that as someone who knew Rod personally and well before he became Governor. I have real sympathy for his kids too, but Rod needs to acknowledge that he’s the reason his life is where it’s at. There is no one else to blame and he should stop trying.

  22. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 12:44 pm:

Didn’t read it, don’t care. Do feel for his daughters.

  23. - ToBScholarly - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 12:50 pm:

“It gives me something to work on. It helps focus my thinking and puts into perspective what my family and I have had to go through.”

    Lessons learned = 0

  24. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 12, 17 @ 1:40 pm:

He looks better w gray hair. Major adjustment in attitude and sense of responsibility would help him, aside from parole considerations. He wonders “how the f— did I get here”. Hillary says “What Happened”…… Trump says “I Happened”, but I’m sure that good line was someone else’s work. They are children incapable of introspection and their part in their fall or eventual fall in Trumps case.
