*** UPDATED x1 - Announcement made to staff *** Rauner’s chief of staff likely to be replaced today

Friday, Oct 6, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

*** UPDATE ***  It’s been announced at the staff meeting that Kristina Rasmussen is out and Heaton is in.

[ *** End Of Update *** ]

* I told subscribers about this widespread, absolutely pervasive rumor earlier this morning…

I started hearing it on Wednesday night and by last night I was getting flooded with texts and calls.

Heaton is a former US Attorney for Central Illinois. He’s been the governor’s top public safety guy. He’s also in the Samuel K. Gove Illinois Legislative Intern Hall of Fame, which I didn’t know until a little bit ago.

* But I didn’t mention this one, partly because Patty wouldn’t even come close to confirming it…

I still think it’s likely happening in the near future, however. She would definitely be an improvement.

* We may know more about Rasmussen/Heaton when this staff meeting gets underway, or maybe not. I’m hearing some don’t believe it will be announced that soon…

…Adding… The Sun-Times needs to restore their old stories. This is from a blog post I did in 2006

* You gotta wonder what the heck Rodger Heaton was thinking when he made these dinner reservations. From Mark Brown:

If I were a gossip columnist, I could give you the entire substance of today’s column in just a sentence, then let the insiders make of it what they will.

It would read something like this:

Seen breaking bread recently in the Grill Room of Springfield’s Sangamo Club were Rodger Heaton, the new U.S. attorney for the Central District of Illinois, and his dinner companions, Republican power brokers William Cellini and Robert Kjellander. […]

But from the outside looking in, this seems exactly the kind of too-friendly relationship between federal prosecutors and Illinois political figures that caused former U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald to insist on going outside the state for his U.S. attorney selections

Go read the whole thing.

We can’t. And the link to the Bernie story referenced in that post isn’t working either.

…Adding… Somebody sent me the full text of the Mark Brown column. Click here.

Hate to see Patty going in to that meat grinder. Nobody comes out better than when they went in.

Rearranging the deck chairs is fun.

  3. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 11:48 am:

The “over” won already with Rasmussen.

She’ll be fine, I’m sure the IPI will welcome her back, with open arms, after all this, Rasmussen is destined to be back where she was… workin’ policy, speakin’ policy for the IPI and…

    Welp, it could happen…

I guess Bruce’s plan is to just keep opening the second envelope…

“I guess Bruce’s plan is to just keep opening the second envelope…”

There’s no third envelope — no need as the Gov told us he’s successful and everything he does.

Sounds to me like the Captain of the BTIA(tm) is rearranging the deck chairs once again. Do they know they have already struck the iceberg?

  7. - SAP - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:05 pm:

==I’m sure the IPI will welcome her back, with open arms, after all this== I, too, am sure that IPI will welcome Rasmussen back, but will the revolving door provision keep her in check for a year, or does that just apply to the small fry?

  9. - Norseman - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:13 pm:

I’m sorry to see Rasmussen go. She was doing such a great job damaging the Rauner brand.

Patty must be thinking about retirement. One last high paying prestigious (or at least it used to be prestigious before Rauner) gig before retiring.

  10. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:13 pm:

Well, that sure was a few months of radical…something.

  11. - Alternative Logic - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:16 pm:

OW, what was the original over/under for The Looch?

Can we have a new one based the number of hours (rather than days) after Rasmussen is jettisoned?

  12. - cdog - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:23 pm:

    Who dumped whom? /s

I find the second half of he post midly alarming. The characters involved and the inability to link to the stories.

The google/YouTube-like thought police might have decided “the content violates community guidelines.” /s

    - Alternative Logic -

===what was the original over/under for The Looch?===

The Looch was “off the board / no bet”

Family considerations. A really first time class has been shown during all the purges.

To CoS, the “House” made the line, and will pay on the “over” wether it’s today, 2019, or 2023.

Keep an eye out on the “big board” for further and future odds…

Naming a former US Attorney COS may be a signal therei is some smoke in the teepee.

  15. - Former Downstater - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:28 pm:

Have I missed why Childress hasn’t been named COS instead of assuming much of the responsibility without having the title?

  16. - Keyrock - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:38 pm:

Why would Rodger want to take the job?

  17. - wordslinger - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 12:50 pm:

When Rauner went all crazy summer lovin’ about IPI back in July, I predicted they’d all be gone by Christmas.

Real work aint their bread and butter. They’re professional grievance peddlers.

As a white male, I was way too generous in the timing, in all radical candor. What FUBAR.

At least Rasmussen made if through the Hawks opener (some whupping of Sid the Kid and the champs).

Does Looch make it through the Columbus Day weekend? Is he the last one?

  18. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 1:16 pm:

    “Radical Candor - July, 1017-October, 2017″

Does the Staff get to keep all those “suggested reading” materials or…

==Why would Rodger want to take the job?==

Guessing he’s close to retirement, and given his past experience is a trusted bridge to sanity in Rauner’s mind. Or he could be just an interim while they continue to look/beg for someone else to step in.

  20. - Curl of the Burl - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 1:50 pm:

Patty would have been Brady’s communications guru if he had beaten Pat Quinn, and if the rumor is true then that would not be a bad way to end a good career.

  21. - Anonymous - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 1:56 pm:

Big mistake for Schu. He will ruin her

  22. - Mr. K. - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 2:51 pm:

    Is he the last one?

Nope. Many IPI have been recently hired in several agencies. Positions, apparently, have been created.

  23. - Huh? - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 2:51 pm:

I’m confused by the timing of the announcement. Aren’t these types of firings announced Friday afternoon after the close of business.

Regarding the revolving door issues, I am sure that 1.4% will grant a waiver to allow Rasmussen to go back to whence she came. It is a matter of processing the paperwork in a timely manner.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 6, 17 @ 2:54 pm:

===Many IPI have been recently hired in several agencies. Positions, apparently, have been created.===

They’re littered everywhere, the influence of IPI isn’t anywhere near ending at the agency level.

Go back, the press release(s) even 2 1/2 years ago touted the IPI hires.

    ??

Great. Whatever happened two years ago … happened two years ago. New stuff is happening now.

    It’s ok. I get it.

lol, I was responding to the IPI and them having tentacles everywhere from Jump Street.

    If you can’t read…

    Don’t worry, OW.
