  16. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 12:51 pm:

I’ll be hanging out at pumpkin patch in Kendall County. See, each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He’s gotta pick this one I found outside Oswego. He’s got to. I don’t see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than the one I found. You can look around and there’s not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see, so I’ll be waiting for the Great Pumpkin.

    …keeping watch on Willy…

  21. - @MisterJayEm - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 12:58 pm:

Last night, I took my folks to see the record release show for Flat Five’s 7-inch of Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Raven’ (Great stuff! Take a listen here: https://theflatfivechicago.bandcamp.com/album/the-raven) It was a costume party — I dressed as a cowboy, my dad didn’t wear a costume, we were indistinguishable.

Tonight, we will give the local urchins gobs of candy to upset their tummies and rot their teeth — like any good neighbor does.

  22. - Rayne of Terror - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:01 pm:

Meeting up with other third grade families to Trick or Treat on the main drag in LeRoy. When the weather is good, it’s rather like the opening scene of ET. Probably also picking up and dropping off seventh graders from neighborhood to neighborhood.

I’ll be trick or treating dressed as a petition circulator this year.

  28. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:22 pm:

I don’t get home from work until well after the trick or treaters have marched up and down Greenview. Someday I’m going to remember to put in for PTO and go watch. I hear it’s quite the sight.

  29. - RNUG - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:30 pm:

  34. - RNUG - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:36 pm:

== Handing out candy for the kids and drinks for the adults. ==

That reminded me of one very cold Halloween in a small town walking with my son and a tumbler of CC & 7, getting refills at various houses.

  35. - Beerman - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:41 pm:

    Working on a six-pack.

  37. - Barton - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:53 pm:

Oscar and I were gonna tee pee the house while you’re running errands and then blame it on Owen.

  38. - Bogey Golfer - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 1:54 pm:

Parking supervision as the local Lions Club hosts a Halloween party in our town. Then thaw and watch the Stros win it.

  39. - lake county democrat - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:01 pm:

Tutoring a 5th grader - if it wasn’t a Tuesday I’d be handing out candy and keeping an eye on the world series.

  40. - Loop Lady - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:03 pm:

    Trick or treating with grandson…

    Then chili, beer, and baseball…

  41. - downstate commissioner - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:07 pm:

Dont’ get too many trick or treaters, but the g-kids will all be by, so will have to see them, otherwise, probably read and misc.

  42. - A guy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:22 pm:

    ==Then chili, beer, and baseball…===

…then late night bubble bath? lol

  43. - Curl of the Burl - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:24 pm:

My neighborhood goes all out and is fairly safe so my boys and I are going trick-or-treating as long as we can stand it. I love doing that. They have fun and I get some non-gym exercise (albeit in the cold).

  44. - Mittuns - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:28 pm:

Blame Mike Madigan for the continued decline of the number of trick-or-treaters each year, choosing to go out-of-state for better candy opportunities.

  45. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:29 pm:

    Relax where it’s warm

  46. - IllinoisBoi - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:35 pm:

Dress as Rauner and tell the kids at the door they’re degenerate collectivists and hand them copies of Atlas Shrugged.

  47. - G'Kar - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:36 pm:

I plan to grade some really scarily bad student papers.

  48. - G'Kar - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:37 pm:

    BTW, OW for the win.

  49. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:38 pm:

  50. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 2:41 pm:

It appears some may come out to check on me… or give me things.

As it’s really important, please, only believers in the Great Pumpkin. I chose this most sincere pumpkin patch in hopes that the Great Pumpkin will rise and deliver gifts to all of us who believe.

    Thanks.

    - MisterJayEm -

I’m happy you chose that quote and not the one that called me a blockhead. Thanks.

  51. - G'Kar - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:02 pm:

Go to Springfield to see if Rep. Ives posts 95 theses on the Statehouse door.

  52. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:04 pm:

My buddies and I are being Halloween Dads.
We light good cigars, take a few shots and pull our little one around from house to house asking for beer. We put the bottles and cans we collect around the littlest kid in the wagon, then when the kids are through, light a big bonfire, and drink the treats.

We love Halloween in my neighborhood.

  53. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:11 pm:

    Who doesn’t like free beer?

  54. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:12 pm:

Vanilla Man, you’re heartwarming plan almost makes me want to go back to drinking…..sniff, sniff……how I miss it

  55. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:12 pm:

I think the kids get candy too.

  56. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:13 pm:

    You can have cigars, right?

  57. - Joe Bidenopolous - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:26 pm:

Our streets close for trick or treating and one of our neighbors gets a beer ball or two to haul in a wagon while we take the young’uns trick or treating. Then it’s back to the house for a big bonfire with friends and the World Series while the kids eat candy and destroy the inside of our house. It’s a tradition and all in Chicago, a finer time couldn’t be had.

  58. - A guy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:36 pm:

==I think the kids get candy too.==

Hey VMan, if they do, they do. No one should judge.

  59. - A guy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:37 pm:

==As it’s really important, please, only believers in the Great Pumpkin.==

In that case, you better bring your own flashlight. :)

  60. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:43 pm:

===In that case, you better bring your own flashlight. :) ===

So, you aren’t you going to come and greet the Great Pumpkin? Huh? It won’t be long. If the Great Pumpkin comes, I’ll still put in a good word for you… Good grief… I said “if”… meant, “when” he comes…

Yikes, now I’m doomed. One little slip like that could cause the Great Pumpkin to pass me by.

  61. - JoanP - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:48 pm:

We don’t get trick-or-treaters at my building. In any case, I won’t be there as I’m going to a class for which we read, appropriately, Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray.

  62. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:50 pm:

Cigars, Si, Si! Arturo Fuentes 858 If I lose this vice, I’ll be on the rim of the abyss….wondering, wondering….

  63. - A guy - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:52 pm:

==I’ll still put in a good word for you==

I sure how he comes now.

  64. - OldIllini - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:58 pm:

We have handed out king-size Snickers for 20 years. Always over a 100 every Halloween.

  65. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 3:59 pm:

Not in the mood this year.

Lights out, Game 6, on the couch with the dog.

  66. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 4:07 pm:

The Bud Light is like getting a Tootsie Roll, and the real beer is like getting full size candy bars. But we don’t turn anything down. It would be unneighborly and teach the little ones bad manners.
We’ve gotten great booze and some really great smokes. The guys at home seem to get a real kick out of giving us some of their favorite brews.

  67. - union thug gramma - Tuesday, Oct 31, 17 @ 11:48 pm:

My costume was college football fan in the stands, with very warm hoodie and stadium blanket and pass out candy…I have German Wirehaired Pointers…who masquerade as the Hounds of Hell when anyone comes to the door…so I sit outside to pass out candy.
