Fritz Kaegi continues to deny his close ties to Republicans but the donations to his campaign tell a different story. He has accepted tens of thousands of dollars from Republican donors, who have also contributed to Republican Governor Bruce Rauner.
Kaegi has raised in excess of $20,000 in campaign contributions from the same donors that contribute to Bruce Rauner. Right-wing conservative Charles McQuaid not only contributed to Kaegi and Rauner but he also contributed to the Liberty Principles PAC, the Illinois Liberty PAC and the Chicago Young Republicans. It is also of note that he also contributed to the Illinois Citizens for Life PAC.
Shame on Kaegi for running away from his association with Wall Street Republicans, who played a reckless role in the financial collapse of our economy and also profit off the private prison system that disproportionately hurts working families, African Americans, and Latinos.

Kaegi can counter this with an ad featuring Guzzardi and McQuaid.
Imagine those two stating contrasting political positions, and then stating that they agree on nothing other than Joe Berrios needs to go.
It could be memorable, it could move voters, and it certainly would deflate the Berrios attack.

The attack is “supported by Republicans.”
The ad would be “supported by everyone.”
Does that confirm it? In a way. But if everybody is out to get you that’s either very good or very bad.
It turns GOP support in a Dem primary into a strength for Fritz.

Gooner, that’s a general election message in a split electorate. This is a primary election in an electorate that hates Republicans. Kaegi’s response to literally nothing should be… nothing. Berrios is toast.

I don’t think so.
Berrios is going to attack Fritz in a Democratic primary based on the allegation that Fritz is a closet Republican.
The counter argument would be: “No, not a Republican. But I have broad support because everybody hates Joe.”
The Berrios attack is going to carry some weight unless Fritz counters. That would be the best way to do so.

Unfortunately for anyone hoping for an uprising in the Dem primary for Cook County Assessor it is a three way race. A split of the protest vote is all Berrios needs. With one candidate a woman (in the year of women supposedly) and the other a well funded unknown Berrios only needs 42 to 45 % in the primary and he is the Assessor again. Raila needs to drop out for Kaegi to have any chance for the upset.
