*** UPDATED x2 - Biss reports $270K - Kennedy reports $164K *** Rauner contributes $305K to Erika Harold, and other money news

Tuesday, Mar 6, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* It’s kinda late and it’s not a huge amount of money, but Gov. Rauner’s campaign kicked in $305,000 to Erika Harold’s primary race via broadcast ads.

* Meanwhile, the Illinois Chamber has put $165,000 into an independent expenditure committee that was recently revived.

* Democratic Cook County Assessor candidate Fritz Kaegi put another $250K into his own primary race, bringing his self-funding total to just under $1.6 million. Kaegi says he’s a progressive, so the self-funding bit is apparently OK with folks who don’t like rich candidates in other races.

* Former Gov. Pat Quinn reported $200,000 last night from property tax appeals attorney Richard Shapiro.

* And The JOBS PAC was just reinvigorated with $300,000 from the Illinois Manufacturers Association and is now making independent expenditures on behalf of two opponents of the Cook County pop tax, commissioners John Fritchey and Richard Boykin.

*** UPDATE *** Chris Kennedy’s campaign just filed an A-1 for $164,400, including $50K from Myron Cherry. Kennedy has reported raising $493,900 since March 1st.

*** UPDATE 2 *** The Biss campaign just reported $270 in contributions, including $100K from Jonathan Soros, who had earlier agreed to match small donors.

I’ll probably vote for her in the general. Voted for Raoul in the primary.

  2. - Just Observing - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 3:52 pm:

Wow, Fritz really must want to be a county assessor to blow that type of money,

  3. - Anonish - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 3:53 pm:

Almost all of Fritz’s money is in loans to the campaign.

  4. - TominChicago - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 3:57 pm:

Anonish How will Fritz pay back the loans if he doesn’t take money from property tax lawyers?

  5. - Anonish - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 3:59 pm:

@Tomin That is an excellent question.

  6. - A guy - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:03 pm:

She just swept the Tribune, Sun Times and Daily Herald in the Chicago area. She’s got plenty of message to spend $300K on.

  7. - Precinct Captain - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:04 pm:

What do they call that in broadcasting? Owned and operated?

  8. - Bored Chairman - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:05 pm:

I thought RIch monitored sockpuppetry - looking at you Anonish and Tomin. Seriously, Berrios is about the worst example of party Machine excess. It’s either hubris or laziness that the so-called brains would keep a hack like him on the ticket. He’s a complete drag and the poster child for reform. Thanks Madigan!

  9. - Dupage Bard - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:09 pm:

LOL so Quinn blasts others for taking dirty money yet grabs $200k from a property tax attorney that’s awesome. Progressives hate Berrios love Kaegi, even though he spends his own money and is a millionaire, plus does he have legislative experience? Where’s the Biss outrage?
    Love the primaries right now.

  10. - Lefty Lefty - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:16 pm:

*Kaegi says he’s a progressive, so the self-funding bit is apparently OK with folks who don’t like rich candidates in other races.*

The first clause has zero to do with the second clause. Also the first clause is factual, the second clause is just ham-handed editorializing. You don’t think self-identifying progressives are voting for Pritzker and Kennedy?

  11. - Leahy Jacob - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:16 pm:

If you’re following along, she’d be for Illinois what Donald Trump wants as his Attorney General–someone loyal to the chief executive and out to go after the political opposition. Scary stuff.

  12. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:20 pm:

===You don’t think self-identifying progressives are voting for Pritzker and Kennedy? ===

Sure, but a bunch of others are loudly complaining about the money.

  13. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:20 pm:

…particularly that Our Revolution group, which is backing Fritz.

  14. - Anonish - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:25 pm:

@Bored I have no love for Berrios and will be happy to see him go.

However, the fact that Fritz is loaning all that money to his campaign is worth noting. Perhaps it is for personal finance reasons, having that outstanding debt might help his tax returns on all his investment earnings. It won’t impact my intent to vote for him despite the questions it raises.

  15. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:25 pm:

The Quinn donor’s website is just kinda, um, wow. And lest we forget this is PQ’s area of practice when he is not in public office.

  16. - TominChicago - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:29 pm:

Board. No sockpuppetry here. My question was genuine. Where will the money come from?

  17. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:32 pm:

    Quick.

Name the SoS, Comptroller, and Treasurer candidates Rauner recruited and didn’t give money to yet…

    No googling, lol

  18. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:35 pm:

To be really fair and brutally honest…

If Rauner wanted to help Harold, he shoulda gave her $205K… and Quinn $100K in the Dem Primary.

    Just sayin’

  19. - Southfarmllama - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:50 pm:

I can’t wait to see Harold lose in the election. Maybe she’ll start running for stuff? Then again, maybe not. She just has some huge sense of entitlement.

  20. - Hottot - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:58 pm:

That ensures my vote in the General won’t go to her.

  21. - Rabid - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 4:59 pm:

Making Erica a referendum for the turnaround agenda

  22. - Gooner - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:21 pm:

Regarding Fritz — for a guy spending a lot of money, I haven’t seen much. So far, he’s been invisible in my area (Gold Coast).

  23. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:30 pm:

Myron “Call Me Mike” Cherry-there’s one of a kind. Had him figured for a JB guy.

  24. - Mike - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:32 pm:

== She just swept the Tribune, Sun Times and Daily Herald in the Chicago area. She’s got plenty of message to spend $300K on. ==

Hehe. You do realize she’s basically running against a nobody in the GOP primary.

  25. - A Young Person - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 5:44 pm:

The options for Assessor are a candidate with $1+ million of their own money v. A candidate with $1+ million of property tax lawyers’ money. I’ll vote on the merits - Berrios is awful at his job - and vote Kaegi.

  26. - Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 7:36 pm:

    ==Kennedy has reported raising $493,900 since March 1st. ==

5-way Primary would favor Kennedy on name alone. JB has ballot postion and spent a lot of money building his name recognition and (hopefully) a good image. But, when the undecideds have to pick someone, “Kennedy” is a known, trusted brand. How many donors are hedging their bets and tossing some green at a Kennedy, just in case?

  27. - Responsa - Tuesday, Mar 6, 18 @ 9:25 pm:

For the last two weeks it’s been almost impossible to search for You Tube clips about anything from music to movies to pet care to household tutorials without getting a JB ad– the same JB ad– before you can watch your chosen video. Overkill maybe? It’s certainly annoying and far from targeted marketing.
