What became of the review of Rauner’s Barney’s Furniture warehouse lease?

Is it wise to point out Lipinki’s opponent went into business with a felon when she claims she is oroggressive and progressives are all about 2nd chances? Isn’t lipinski worried about the progressives as being the bed to make him lose?

Congrats to the Loyola Ramblers on winning “The Valley” and a great season. As “probably” the lone Illinois school in the NCAA bracket, we should rally around the Ramblers.

Here’s to a good run in the NCAA tourney.

Maybe a NIT bid in the offing for other Illinois universities(?)

Does anyone know which state Dr Robert Marshall would like to be governor of in the event that he splits IL in three?

I am going stir crazy. Trapping season over. Too wet to garden. Late night television. Blah. MyPillow.com infomercial on 5 different channels. No baseball. Hate basketball. All the hunting/fishing shows reruns.

Can one of the old timers answer this?
Are state politics getting super ugly?
Has it always been this way?
Rotheimer went after me the other day and it made me wonder about my anonymity and safety even engaging in discussion anymore.

The weather is really nice in Glendale. Hope everyone watching the White Sox game has a pleasant day.

Sad to see State Farm announcing it is moving more jobs out of Illinois.

Would be great if the state had some plan to help Central Illinois company towns like Peoria, B-N, and Decatur diversify ecobomically.

==Does anyone know which state Dr Robert Marshall would like to be governor of in the event that he splits IL in three?==

He’s from Berwyn, I believe, so the Chicago suburbs state.

Then again, his “legalize crack and opioids” platform may not resonate with voters there.

  12. - Iggy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:30 am:

The Ramblers are a good team. The valley is consistently producing solid teams, Creighton, UNI, WSU, and now Loyola. I’m a little disappointed that the Redbirds never found their rhythm this year. But hopefully the Birds come back next year with a better team to match loyola.

Loyola: sweet 16 bound, potential to make the elite 8.
ISU and Southern: Deserving of making the NIT
    Northwestern and Illinois: nah….

  13. - Steve Rogers - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:30 am:

OW: SIU “should” get an NIT bid. Bradley and ISU maybe on the NIT. I agree about Loyola. I watched them a few times, and they’re pretty good. Beating Florida at Florida is no small feat. Still incredibly disappointed in Illinois’s season, but they choked on 3-4 games that really should have been wins.
Disappointed too to see Mark Smith go elsewhere.

  14. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:31 am:

Agreed Willy, a great season by Loyola.

Porter Moser got the ultimate revenge against his former employer, dropping Illinois State in the Arch Madness Championship. I was afraid Loyola might have gotten stiffed by the NCAA had they not won the automatic bid. It’s happened before to Valley teams, the curse of the mid-major programs.

Go Ramblers. Congratulations to Coach Moser. I really hope he doesn’t get lured away to another program.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:32 am:

The B1G has their tourney early to play at the Garden, in a state that has no B1G school (Rutgers has NYC media market, but) and St. Louis had the MVC and is hosting the SEC, two tournaments.

That DePaul building by McCormack Place is nice and all, but St. Louis is hosting TWO tournaments with fans and exposure… Illinois and Chicago isn’t.

You want these buildings to be worth the monies and such or at least get exposure, the city and state need to, at the right time, think about a retractable roof sports structure to hosts events, multi-purpose, when Chicago and Illinois loses out to Minneapolis or St. Louis or Indianapolis, or…

  16. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:34 am:

Iggy, Creighton and Wichita State are no longer in the Valley and the conference’s RPI ratings dropped accordingly. It’s not as competitive a league as it was prior to Loyola joining, but still, a championship is a championship and it’s a lot better than what, the Horizon League, or where they were before.

Glad to have regular ISU-Loyola games up here, Southern and Bradley too.

  17. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:36 am:

Sugar, do you recall who was doing the review?

  18. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:39 am:

    - Steve Rogers -

Agreed, SIU should be a clear choice, ISU should get strong consideration.

The Florida win was a big deal, at that time the SEC was looking at 8-9 teams in the tourney, that’s probably down to maybe 7, but Florida is a star win for a resume.

==I was afraid Loyola might have gotten stiffed by the NCAA had they not won the automatic bid. It’s happened before to Valley teams, the curse of the mid-major programs.===

    - 47th Ward -, that’s all I was thinking, and about half way thru the 1st half they did a resume snapshot on Loyola and said if they didn’t win, they weren’t likely to get an At-Large.

Sweet revenge for Coach. That program seems to be building for longer sustained success, if the can keep Moser.

  19. - Iggy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:46 am:

    47th Ward,

I am well aware lol. I have been going to the MVC tournament for 8 years now. My point was that the Valley has produced good teams Such as Wichita and Creighton, even though they have moved on to be apart of bigger conferences.

As an ISU alum. I root for the day that the Birds outgrow the valley and venture somwhere new. Maybe the big 12? Obviously this is years down the road. but in the last 10 years ISU athletics have severely improved.

  20. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:48 am:

Willy, Wintrust is too small to host NCAA regionals or the Big 10 conference tourney. The United Center ought to be getting those gigs, and has in the past. The Big 10 made a huge mistake by going to the Big Apple this year, but my guess is they’ll end up back in Indianapolis next year, like usual. Bo-ring.

Wintrust I think might host the Big East Women’s tourney and maybe a NCAA Women’s Regional, but yeah, it’s not the same as hosting a piece of March Madness in Chicago.

Good luck on the retractable dome idea. I think we missed the boat back in 1990 and I don’t think that boat is coming back to the pier for a long, long time.

  21. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:49 am:

===but in the last 10 years ISU athletics have severely improved.===

Agreed, especially in football. I’m also a Redbird alum.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:51 am:

===…Birds outgrow the valley and venture somwhere new. Maybe the big 12?===

    lol…

Look at just the athletic facilities of BigXII schools, let alone the institutions themselves. Not possible.

It’s like Mizzou constantly thinking they were a B1G school, but looking at them now, the SEC is far better of a fit.

  23. - Ole General - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:52 am:

Feels strange for JB to be attacking coaches salaries at the start of March Madness, which is universally loved as a sporting event. Heck, it’s basically a cultural staple, especially in states like Illinois.

    Weird choice from JB.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 11:58 am:

===Feels strange for JB to be attacking coaches salaries at the start of March Madness…===

There is that, no doubt about it, but it’s bizarre and lazy or just… tired “non-Illinois centric” thinking.

We are the second largest “exporter” of college freshmen, outside New Jersey, which has Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, all poaching them… and parents are talking about the cost of the U of I being a factor that students leave… and the angle is the coaches’ salaries?

Are they not trying, or not paying attention.

“Chris Kennedy raised tuition 5 times and parents and student are walking away from Illinois because of it”

A bizarre few weeks out of that Crew.

You’re right, the coaches’ angle, confusing.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 12:11 pm:

===Wintrust is too small to host NCAA regionals or the Big 10 conference tourney.===

Yep, I’m just ranting that the newest building still isn’t moving Chicago closer to hosting.

===Good luck on the retractable dome idea. I think we missed the boat back in 1990 and I don’t think that boat is coming back to the pier for a long, long time.===

    :)

This is my side rant about landing a spaceship and losing the landmark status anyway as opposed to looking for a partner to build a retractable dome facility, like Indy, like Minneapolis, where the plan was far thinking and reaching, not just a band aid.

Then there’s the NCAA agreement with Indy to host the tourney within so many years when they moved facilities…

    Asleep at the switch.

    (Ending all rants)

  26. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 8, 18 @ 12:28 pm:

Willy, General, amen on the JB crew. Plenty of fertile ground to plow in CK’s UI tenure, and I’m surprised they went with the weak and misleading sauce of coaching salaries. Don’t get it.

In other UI news, study out today indicating D-1 Hockey may be a feasible venture for the Big U, including building a new sheet of ice in C-U. The feasibility study picked the wrong spot politically to build the ice arena, so that might be fun to watch.

==Does anyone know which state Dr Robert Marshall would like to be governor of in the event that he splits IL in three?==

Presumably he would be governor of the Suburbs, except he already offered that job to Tio Hardiman.
