Rauner mailer says he’s “tall enough to stand up to Madigan”

Monday, Mar 12, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* This very “tall” mailer hit the boxes in the last day or so…

…Adding… MrJM in comments…

Seriously. Just gaze upon the list of Rauner’s accomplishments on that mailer:

    •”calls for”
    •”wants”
    •”calls for”
    •”promises to” and
    •”aims to.”

After a term in office, his sole non-aspirational accomplishment was a veto that lasted two days before being overridden with the help of his own party.

Goodness, could he make it any more about his feelings of masculine inadequacy?

A list of Bruce Rauner’s lasting accomplishments:

    1) 6′4″

This governors race is about to physically look like Lincoln vs. Douglas

  4. - blue dog dem - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:34 pm:

What was that phrase Harry Caray made famous?

  5. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:34 pm:

    They stack… that tall?

What’s next, size of hands? Who’s Carhartt is more pristine?

It’s a play on standing up to Madigan.

Is that it? Yeah, I doubt it.

So, about that measuring of hands…

  6. - Angry Republican - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:35 pm:

    How tall are Bruce’s tales?

  7. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:37 pm:

It is almost cartoonish. He is betting that everyone votes on the tax issue.

  8. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:38 pm:

The only thing Rauner can stand up to is a store mannequin or catalogue model. He looks like he should be in Kohl’s and not the executive branch.

  9. - Anonymous - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:40 pm:

It’s hard to stand up when you’re crippled by your own incompetence.

  10. - Columbo - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:40 pm:

Its a shame there wasn’t room at the bottom of the mailer to include what should have been the second half of his statement: “Rauner: I’ll veto permanent tax hike, and then gladly spend every penny of it (and more)”

  11. - James - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:44 pm:

I’m getting a real kick out of Republicans campaigning on a promise to “fight” to repeal a tax that they previously campaigned to “fight” from being passed into law.

  12. - TKMH - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:46 pm:

They missed the easy “Bruce Rauner: Standing Tall for Illinois Taxpayers” pun.

  13. - Norseman - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:47 pm:

I missed the height requirement when reading the IL Constitution.

  14. - Norseman - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:48 pm:

The way Rauner lies, I’ve always considered Rauner to be a small man.

  15. - Steve Rogers - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:52 pm:

So…… he doesn’t have enough quotes and talking points to advertise so he repeats one twice and another one three times. Great marketing: Say it enough times and it must be true. /s

  16. - Anon - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:52 pm:

So tall that he looks down upon on most of us…

  17. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:53 pm:

Most hilarious yet sad re-election rationale that I can recall.

I wonder what concepts were rejected in favor of this winner?

    – He bathes and brushes his teeth every day.

    – Can tie his own shoes.

    – 50 pieces of flair on motorcycle vest.

    – Never even met Stormy Daniels.

    – Still not indicted.

  18. - Henry Francis - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:56 pm:

I like how he is such a shadowy figure on the front. Resembles his governorship.

If height is what is important, then a certain Treasurer is grinning.

  19. - Wensicia - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:57 pm:

    Not tall enough.

  20. - DuPage Saint - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:58 pm:

Tall enough but not smart enough

  21. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 3:58 pm:

What is the visual telling me? That Bruce Rauner is smiling while staring at his shadow on a blank wall?

  22. - Ginhouse Tommy - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:00 pm:

Bruce has tried for 3 years to stand up to MJM and it hasn’t worked yet. No argument that the Speaker is a pain like no other. He is the main reason that things don’t done in the GA and he controls virtually everything that goes on under the dome but unless you can find another way, you have to work with him. And we all know that ain’t easy.

  23. - dbk - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:01 pm:

All it needs is a little button that plays the theme song to “Rawhide.”

    Honestly, talk about jerky.

  24. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:03 pm:

–What is the visual telling me?–

Yeah, I don’t get it, either. I don’t think “shadowy” has any good connotations in this context.

Again, would love to see the rejected concepts.

  25. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:04 pm:

===I don’t think “shadowy” has any good connotations in this context.===

I think air-brushing out the urinal was the hard part of the creative effort here.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:04 pm:

Rauner is a shadow of what he said he was going to be.

    Bruce Rauner failed.

  27. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:05 pm:

==Bruce has tried for 3 years to stand up to MJM and it hasn’t worked yet.==

That’s the case against Rauner in a nutshell. You would think he would want to avoid bringing this to the attention of the voters.

If he hasn’t been able to do this for three years, what the heck will he doing going forward?

  28. - @misterjayem - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:07 pm:

–I think air-brushing out the urinal was the hard part of the creative effort here.–

Now that you mention it, the visual looks like it could have been based on a surreptitious duck in the alley after a Cubs game…..

Could have wrote his name on the wall, for some real “creativity.”

    Biggest dork ever elected.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:10 pm:

    Maybe Bruce is Peter Pan?

He lost his shadow and Wendi needs to sew it on before the BTIA(tm) take on Captain Madigan and his gavel where a hand use to be?

    Maybe? No?

  34. - @misterjayem - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:27 pm:

    “Biggest dork ever elected.”

    Literal LOL.

A famous R. Lee Ermey quote comes to mind.

  36. - Bobby T - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:35 pm:

Is he using a urinal? Is that what the shadow is showing?

If so — that’s flat out bizarre.

How tall does have to be to govern?

  38. - Moe Berg - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:51 pm:

  39. - Nobody Sent - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 4:54 pm:

The shadow image is appropriate - he’s provided nothing but a shadow of leadership since he was elected.

    Walk Hard Bruce. Walk Hard.

  41. - 37B - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:00 pm:

    Madigan has pants that long.

  46. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:26 pm:

Darn, he saw his shadow. How many more weeks do we have now?

  47. - Chris P. Bacon - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:29 pm:

We probably shouldn’t expect a mailer listing height of his running mate.

  48. - southfarmllama - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:31 pm:

    So well done.

It is fun thinking Rauner is attempting to run as a challenger, while being the incumbent.

Costumes help, I’ll grant him that, but he’s 20+ points under water.

    It’s not an accident.

  51. - Northsider (the original) - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:37 pm:

What’s next, a mailer in Swedish?

  52. - Huh? - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:45 pm:

I swear that the white thing in the lower left of the shadow picture is a toilet paper dispenser.

  53. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:47 pm:

If height is the thing then Frerichs can be governor of all three states Dr. Marshall wants created.

    That’s how silly Rauner is.

  54. - wordslinger - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:52 pm:

–I swear that the white thing in the lower left of the shadow picture is a toilet paper dispenser.–

I think that’s the mailing address blocked out. You can see a bit of the bar code.

  55. - Thomas Paine - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 5:52 pm:

Bruce Rauner can’t even say Susana Mendoza’s name.

It ain’t the size of the man in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the man, Bruce. Or in Mendoza’s case, woman.

And she has boxed you around like a lynx toying with a field mouse.

You have been measured, you have been weighed, and you have been found wanting.

  56. - VanillaMan - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 6:02 pm:

Pritzker should do one like this
    “How big is JB Pritzker?”
“He’s big enough to roll over Bruce Rauner and roll back the damage caused by Rauner’s disasters.”

6′4″ impressive. How tall does someone have to be to be in charge?

  61. - blue dog dem - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 7:08 pm:

Did I say 9%. Maybe i meant to say 19%.

  62. - Ryan - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 7:29 pm:

All of these mailers go in my recycling bin. I’ve made up my mind. Whomever is running against Rauner in November gets my vote.

  63. - CatAttack - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 10:20 pm:

This is the dumbest mailer I’ve seen yet. And I’m on JB’s mailing list.

  64. - justacitizen - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 10:57 pm:

It’s all about the pants. Madigan’s pant’s are taller because he wears them on his chest.

  65. - Jay Rosenstein - Monday, Mar 12, 18 @ 11:19 pm:

Only if he puts on a fake headdress. Maybe that’s next.

  66. - Huh? - Tuesday, Mar 13, 18 @ 6:41 am:

Doesn’t 1.4% know that there are plenty of children’s stories about “big” men being taken down by those who are smaller?

  67. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 13, 18 @ 9:15 am:

Yea, right, he also said he is not in control.

Some one should do a commercial just looping that sound bite.

  68. - Franklin Delano Bluth - Tuesday, Mar 13, 18 @ 9:17 am:
