They have never seen sexual harassment in their campaigns, or any they have ever been involved in, nor do they believe their own leaderships findings of Jerry Long … nor do they want to accept anything the dems suggest because the dems suggest it … Yeah welcome to the new republican reality. And they both wanted Lang and Mapes to resign.

  2. - Dome Gnome - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:09 pm:

Ives & McDermed are out of step with the female suburban voters of DuPage & Will Counties. This isn’t 2016 anymore.

  3. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:14 pm:

In this case, #metoo means the Sgt. Schultz thing.

  4. - ste_v_en - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:16 pm:

McDermed- “this turning up things after decades is never useful”
The victims of Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Dennis Hastert, Jerry Sandusky, Kevin Spacey, Les Moonves, Charlies Rose, Matt Lauer, and all the priests would like a word.

  5. - anon - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:17 pm:

My goodness, I sure hope that Dome Gnome is correct. McDermed thinks that attempted rape is “kids doing what kids do?” I was a wild child, but I never got on top of a girl, held my hand over her mouth, and tried to remove her clothing. My god, she didn’t even deny that she thinks Kavanaugh did it!!! She said that she feels its OK because he was young. Wow, I still cannot believe what i just saw.

  6. - Shytown - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:18 pm:

Wow. They’re tone deaf. This isn’t a partisan issue ladies.

  7. - Shytown - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:19 pm:

And they obviously didn’t actually read the report.

Soooo this is a democratic problem? What about Rep. Long?

    Not exactly the credibility crew.

    Ives: “No collaborating information.”

She seems to have her GOP talking points tangled up.

“Nobody is talking about taxes,” Lol.

If they love that the AMT is gone, they probably noticed the SALT deduction is also gone. My guess is more suburban residents will miss the SALT deduction more than those who want the AMT to go away.

Flannery was too clueless to even mention the SALT deduction. Pro-tip: don’t ask a question unless you’ve done your homework on the topic. That way you’ll know if you’re getting BS’d.

  13. - Former Downstater - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:29 pm:

Will someone please deliver a copy of the Long report to Ives so she can finally form an opinion about the situation.

  14. - Big Daddy Madigan - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:35 pm:

    How’s Nick Sauer doing guys?

  15. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:50 pm:

And what was the “collaborating information” in her proffered attacks against Lou Lang? None. Maybe her opinion of Dr. Ford is informed by her prior advocacy for Lang’s accuser…..apparently only SOME women are to be believed without evidence.

  16. - Henry Francis - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:51 pm:

Not affirming Kavanuagh’s nomination to the US Supreme Court, and sending him back to the 2nd highest court in the country = “ahnilation”??

Is McDermed there just to make Jeanne “country of rules” Ives look more thoughtful?

  17. - Lt Guv - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 3:52 pm:

Wow. The crazy is on full display.

  18. - me and you - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 4:11 pm:

    1. Don’t care what Jeanne Ives says about any issue. As a woman, she does not speak for me.
    2. I’m an attorney and I believe in the presumption of innocence. Frankly, I ended up not believing Christine Ford’s accusations against Justice Kavanaugh. Her friend Monica McLean should be investigated for pressuring a witness. Swetnick perjured herself.
    3. No one on this website or any other help themselves but perpetuating a popular but flawed narrative.

  19. - me and you - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 4:16 pm:

My comments about Christine Ford and Kavanaugh were specifically directed to @Anon at 3:17 which is frankly a statement which perpetuates a smear with no evidence other than one witness statement and more holes than swiss cheese.

So your beliefs Trump everyone else’s? Get over yourself.

    ==Wow. They’re tone deaf. This isn’t a partisan issue ladies==

With all due respect, yes it is. Multiple polls have shown that both men and women who are either strongly republican or lean republican either do not care strongly about this issue, or think that young men are more likely to be falsely accused than to engage in this behavior.

  22. - anon - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 4:25 pm:

Hey me and you, McDermed specifically said that she didn’t care what he did as a kid. Therefore, even if there wasn’t a specific accusation, but rather only a hypothetical question (would it be a disqualified if a nominee attempted to rape a woman as a young man?), McDermed made her point. Men are not responsible for what they did in their youth, and attempting to have sex with a woman against her will is just “what kids do!” I pray to GOD that you do not speak for any woman other than yourself!

  23. - jim - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 4:26 pm:

    Hey, me and you

Be careful what you say or the fair-minded commenters on this site will drum you out of the female sex for being an apostate.

==No one on this website or any other help themselves but perpetuating a popular but flawed narrative.==

Flawed according to who? You? Speak for yourself. I don’t care what you do or do not find credible. That’s your opinion. To tell someone their narrative is flawed is the height of arrogance.

Just what we need. Another victim on this site.

How does one go about drumming someone out of her gender?

My vote for CapFax comment of the year!

  31. - JoanP - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 5:50 pm:

=I’m an attorney and I believe in the presumption of innocence.=

The presumption of innocence applies at a criminal trial, not at a job interview, which is what the committee hearings are. If I’d ever interviewed someone for a job who had a meltdown like his, that person would not be hired.

  32. - Blue Dog Dem - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 6:14 pm:

JoanP. Which senators are you talking about?

  33. - duoage dem - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 6:45 pm:

Ladies, hate to tell you that when you are sexually harassed the harasser does not ask are you a democrat or a republican. And to be so close minded to say that harassment doesn’t occur on republican campaigns is crazy. Can you say Jerry Long? Finally for Margo to say kids will be kids is ridiculous. How about saying instead actions have consequences? I would have respected her answer better if she stated that there was not enough collaborating evidence not “kids will be kids'’

    Yikes

  35. - Um - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 7:02 pm:

== The presumption of innocence applies at a criminal trial, not at a job interview ==
Um, so anyone can make an accusation against someone without a shred of evidence and we punish the accused? We ruin their reputation and prevent them from advancing in a job or an appointment? Really? Are you prepared to live by this very anti-liberty idea?

  36. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 9:44 pm:

–McDermed- “this turning up things after decades is never useful”–

    What is wrong with you?

  37. - priorities - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 10:14 pm:

This is repulsive. But no one will make a big deal about it because they’re both known for their outlandish opinions. Rich may block me for saying this, but I think it is such a double standard. These women are two of the most vocal opponents of what they view as Madigan’s inability to police his people’s behavior and they both stood with Denise Rothheimer and Mary Ann Lancor. Now here they are basically saying we shouldn’t believe women, that all Democratic women are unable to think or act for themselves, and essentially claiming boys will be boys. Why is it ok for them to get away with this? It’s a blatant double standard. If a male member even broached these comments they’ d be drawn and quartered.

  38. - Shytown - Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 11:39 pm:

== With all due respect, yes it is. Multiple polls have shown that both men and women who are either strongly republican or lean republican either do not care strongly about this issue, or think that young men are more likely to be falsely accused than to engage in this behavior. ==

Let me clarify for you dude - both Dem and Repub men are sexual harassers. Therefore, sexual harassment isn’t a partisan issue. Repeat after me: sexual harassment is not a partisan issue. Got it? Good.

  39. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Wednesday, Oct 10, 18 @ 7:19 am:

==I’m an attorney and I believe in the presumption of innocence… Swetnick perjured herself.==

Lol. It took only three sentences for you to contradict yourself. That’s gotta be some kind of record.

  40. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Thursday, Oct 11, 18 @ 10:03 am:

==Her friend Monica McLean should be investigated for pressuring a witness.==

Who never changed her statement. Pressure? People are going to talk to their friends. You seem to like the idea of frivolous court actions to shut people up, don’t you? Average folks can’t afford lawyers and court dates. You can believe what you want, but don’t try to pretend you are only interested in “innocent til proven guilty”. It works both ways.
