  1. - Steve - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 9:29 am:

Minnesota is a very diverse place now. It’s not like it was decades ago. Not everyone is a Christian in Minnesota in 2019.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 9:35 am:

    === Not everyone is a Christian===

.., and the default is they believe in Satan?

It’s an odd thing to type. I’m done, I find it odd, not odd enough to discuss, thanks.

  3. - Steve - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 9:40 am:

    OW

I was attempting to be truthful and diplomatic. Many folks are quite unhappy with the “new ” Minnesota. Many progressives view satan worship as just another belief system.

  4. - Earnest - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 9:46 am:

An amazing selling point over Minnesota and Illinois is stuck with a Governor who would probably want to collaborate with neighboring states rather than go try to poach companies to come do business in Illinois.

  5. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 9:50 am:

I totally want to go visit the Satanic statue. I think I’ll ask my daughter if she wants to go see it. Religious liberty is an inspiring thing to see. I’m not a Satanist or Wiccan but I love what they are doing with the statue here and in other states. This is absolutely what I was all about as a Navy Chaplain, diversity and self-differentiation. A Satanic statue in no way takes away from my religious beliefs or practices. To me, it enhances and strengthens my beliefs. These religious symbols make points that I can learn from. Many folks have forgotten that learning from others, especially those most different, used to be a lauded virtue of this nation.

It doesn’t mean I have to believe what they do.

  6. - lake county democrat - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:01 am:

I once read an article about “Official” Satanism - it’s theology was kind of Ayn Randish - invert the Judeo-Christian ethic and praise selfishness. The highest holiday isn’t Satan’s Birthday (whenever that might be) but one’s own birthday.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:03 am:

===Many progressives view satan worship as===

I’m not discussing this with you, but I’m glad you doubled down, in a partisan manner. More than you realize. Thank you.

    “- Honeybear - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 9:50 am:”

I do not agree. This is not about religious freedom. It is mocking religions. It is the devil and what the devil stands for is not anything good.

  9. - Froganon - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:16 am:

Minnesota, leading with job creation, wages, access to health care, rebuilding its infrastructure and doing it all with a graduated income tax that taxes high income earners the most. But Christianity is languishing for lack of a Christmas tree in front of the capitol? Could it be that Minnesotans live their Christian values instead of nattering about symbols?

  10. - LakeCo - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:22 am:

    =invert the Judeo-Christian ethic and praise selfishness=
Boy, that reminds me of someone…someone at the highest level of government…someone who, ironically, the evangelicals practically worship…

  11. - City Zen - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:35 am:

==and doing it all with a graduated income tax that taxes high income earners the most==

    And retirees.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:39 am:

    === And retirees.===

Show me your roll call and the governor in Illinois to change that.

    Thanks.

Minnesota is a state you can pick and choose some real great things you’d hope Illinois would borrow, but between the pesky constitution and 60/71, 30/36, and signature, more bipartisan is needed here to get change like they have in very specific wants.

  13. - PublicServant - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:43 am:

This current Illinois retiree paid for Illinois retirees while working. Currently working Minnesotans didn’t pay for any of their retires while working. No comparison.

  14. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:50 am:

Christmas trees on public grounds seem to be more of tradition than a religious statement. They’re beautiful and help bring a festivity to the season. However, it’s acceptable to also put up displays of other religions on public grounds. It’s what the First Amendment should guarantee. Kudos to Satanic Temple for fighting to put up its displays in public places where politicians want to display symbols like the Ten Commandments.

    Also what Froganon said.

  15. - City Zen - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 10:56 am:

==Show me your roll call and the governor in Illinois to change that.==

Merely pointing out the secret ingredients in Minnesota’s recipe that were not mentioned in the original post. Our master chefs can ignore it if they so wish, but results will vary.

  16. - R A T - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 11:02 am:

I had a humorous post at the beginning of this about Satan being Santa but unfortunately I keep getting that posting gremlin.

    Mocking religions IS religious freedom.

    Too many ls for one.

    That’s Minnesota!

  20. - Nick Name - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 12:17 pm:

===Many progressives view satan worship as just another belief system.===

Got any data to back that up?

  21. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 12:47 pm:

Does Minnesota have a festivus pole? We need to get the festivus for the rest of us back to the capitol.

  22. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 1:01 pm:

=I do not agree. This is not about religious freedom. It is mocking religions. It is the devil and what the devil stands for is not anything good.=

I am pretty confident in my beliefs (I know, you are happy for me) so seeing a display for another religion is not offensive and does not induce pearl clutching. I see it as the 1st Amendment in action. Similar to gay marriage, it has no negative impact on my marriage other than possible making it more legit since everyone can get married now.

What I find is that those who are most offended and have their world rocked are usually not real secure in their beliefs and these displays hurt them in a deep down place because they lack confidence and maybe don’t really fully believe what they espouse.

==I do not agree. This is not about religious freedom. It is mocking religions. It is the devil and what the devil stands for is not anything good.==

It is about the First Amendment. Nobody said you have to like it.

  24. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 1:22 pm:

There’s a documentary called “Hail, Satan!” if anyone is interested in the current Satanic Church.

  25. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 1:35 pm:

“Does Minnesota have a festivus pole? We need to get the festivus for the rest of us back to the capitol.”

Also the sacred colander. Every Wednesday is spaghetti day, so Pastafarianism fits in well with the rest of the holidays.

  26. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 1:38 pm:

Has the ILGOP gotten a picture of MJM walking in proximity to the Satan statute yet? Mailer season will be upon us soon.

You don’t have backup for your statement. I am very secure in my beliefs. This is not a religion and the satanic rituals mock the Catholic rituals and have been known to defile the Eucharist. This is why some Churches have started to make sure that people do not put it in their pocket after communion.

I saw this at a shrine that I visited in October (The Shrine of Devine Mercy in Massachusetts) and was surprised so I asked the priest after Mass.

This is not there as a statement of faith. It is meant to mock

=I am very secure in my beliefs as are many people that I know. Mocking Religion is not a religion.

First, you don’t know what “it” is unless you can read minds (not a chance) or have the group on record admitting they are doing it as a mockery.

You may not like “it”, but for these folks I will take them at their word that it is religion.

=This is not a religion and the satanic rituals mock the Catholic rituals and have been known to defile the Eucharist. This is why some Churches have started to make sure that people do not put it in their pocket after communion.=

The tin foil is thick with this one. When were catholics anointed to determine what is and is not a religion? Here is a tip- they weren’t and neither was anyone else.
Food for thought- some may not see catholicism or christianity as legit religions.

  30. - Demoralized - Tuesday, Dec 3, 19 @ 3:05 pm:

==This is not there as a statement of faith. It is meant to mock==

Ok, so let them mock. Ignore it and get over it.

== This is why some Churches have started to make sure that people do not put it in their pocket after communion.==
That’s so strange. What happens when someone puts the host in her pocket or purse for later and doesn’t want to give it up? They get roughed up? The host gets taken by force? Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  32. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Wednesday, Dec 4, 19 @ 8:51 am:

== I am very secure in my beliefs as are many people that I know. ==
I see you took offense at someone saying you were insecure in your beliefs.
Is the statue of Satin meant to mock other religions or an attempt to proselytize or just saying “hello, we’re here”? I dunno.
Maybe if you don’t want people to assume things about your beliefs you shouldn’t assume things about their beliefs.
A command based on words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount: “All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.”
    So chill, buddy.
