Pritzker won’t partake

Wednesday, Jan 15, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Amanda Vinicky asked Gov. Pritzker if he planned to purchase or consume cannabis now that it’s legal

AV: Do you plan to partake? Buy any?

JB: No.

You’ll recall that his lieutenant governor bought some edibles on January 1.

I’ll have more on Vinicky’s interview later today.

Nothing wrong with his answer. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean he has to partake.

It’s not that I think pot is addictive or a gateway drug or anything like that. But,given his family history with addiction, I can see why he’s not going to partake.

That is one of the upsides of having zero official duties. Lots of free time.

“I don’t plan to… But if I happen to find myself in a room with some friends and we’re listening to Phish and they’re feeling generous… Well, I’m not gonna be rude, maaaaaaan.”

Bet he wouldn’t have to stand in line. /s

Jeez, Rich. Rauner wouldn’t crack over a Stag and now Pritzker won’t take a rip. This beat ain’t what it used to be.

  7. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 10:16 am:

He is a grown up and can make his own choices. Leaves more for the rest of us.

  8. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 10:18 am:

He may not partake, but it’s worth partaking in his honor, especially after cannabis workers at Cresco Labs in Joliet voted to unionize yesterday.

Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, his opinion, man.

Or maybe its just not his thing. I get why Amanda asked the question, but it is such a non issue. Some people drink, some don’t. Some people smoke, some don’t. What’s great about it being legal, is we can normalize its use and not make a big deal about whether someone does or doesn’t use it.

This. Gambling is legal too. Doesn’t mean you have to be a slot jockey.

    Brian Mackey’s interview with Pritzker:

Brian: Have you consumed any marijuana since legalization on January 1?

    Pritzker: No, I have not.

Brian: Have you ever consumed marijuana?

Pritzker: Oh, sure, when I was younger, I did, but it’s been a long time.

Or maybe it is and JB doesn’t want to deal with the fallout from (some) Boomers and older voters

I admire Pritzker’s ability to simply answer a question without yammering on with some sort of justification for his personal choices, Too bad more politicians don’t have that skill.

  16. - RIJ - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 2:33 pm:

Pritzker supports our freedom to choose to partake or not. That’s what is important, not his own personal decision.

  17. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 4:17 pm:

Kudos to the realists like Pritzker, who don’t partake but know marijuana prohibition has been a horrific failure, calling for a different way.

  18. - VerySmallRocks - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 4:47 pm:

    It’s legal, so why bother?

  19. - Groucho - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 5:13 pm:

Whether he uses cannabis or not is nobody’s business.

  20. - Wished she didn't - Wednesday, Jan 15, 20 @ 6:08 pm:

I was sorry to see the Lite Guv partake of the edibles. While certainly it’s legal but all things that are legal are not expedient. I won’t be a hypocrite though as I have partaken in years gone by but it’s just not relevant to my life these days. Clear heads should be the goal. And in our leaders certainly clear heads should prevail and like it or not for our kids sake a model.

Bourbon at 2:02pm You are spot on question asked, question answered. I dont like white wine it needs no explanation.
