* Um…

* Give a speech at a rally and then expect to be treated like a reporter? Nope…

These are media briefings. She’s clearly not “media.”

  2. - Demoralized - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:21 pm:

Also, there’s a limit to dumb questions and she exceeded that limit.

  3. - NIU Grad - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:22 pm:

Is she sure she wants the challenge to her credibility in writing…they have a long list to work with.

  4. - Grandson of Man - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:22 pm:

More fodder for manufactured outrage and victimhood.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:22 pm:

    She’s not a reporter.

    She’s a media personality.

She lost her journalist credentials… poolside.

  6. - Anon E Moose - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:28 pm:

    She seems super objective

  7. - Bruce (no not him) - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:29 pm:

I missed her today. Wondered why no dumb questions. This answers that.

  8. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:30 pm:

    very Trumplike.

  9. - Linus - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:32 pm:

    == “Some”fellow reporters,==

Amy, “Some” reporters know the difference between being a reporter and speaking at a rally. The latter makes you an activist.

Scratch that: Every bona fide reporter seems to know that. That’s another clear indication that you are not one.

    Have fun with your outrage!

  10. - Precinct Captain - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:33 pm:

Just as grotesque as her pool party with Craig Stebic

  11. - Roadrager - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:34 pm:

Another one who knows exactly how to play by the right-wing snowflake “I’m the real victim here” script. Sorry, Amy, but if Fox hasn’t come calling for your blonde beach body by now, they aren’t about to start at your age.

  12. - @misterjayem - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:34 pm:

“Some”fellow reporters, egged on by Rick Pearson, have convinced @JordanAbudayyeh not to take my ?’s ever again.

If this is true, attaboy, Rick.

    – MrJM

  13. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:35 pm:

=== If this is true, attaboy, Rick.===

    Co-sign.

You are either a working journalist or a “media personality”. You can’t be both.

  14. - Lt Guv - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:39 pm:

Amen to the “attaboy Rick.” Well done.

  15. - Hey There - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:40 pm:

    =She seems super objective=

She is clearly not “media” and should not be allowed to submit questions.

The bit about being objective left the building on most media fronts a long time ago. A huge majority of so called media outlets are glorified infomercials for a point of view.

Not sure “objective” is the current standard.

  16. - Proud Papa Bear - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:41 pm:

Thank goodness. Those wasted minutes from her inane rants were preventing Jeopardy from starting on time.

  17. - Shytown - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:42 pm:

I thought these briefings were reserved for reporters, not right wing schills? Although apparently she’s now embracing her schill. You have to feel sorry for folks like Amy and John Kass whose only way to survive in this business is to appeal to the FOX News-ites.

  18. - Mama - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:43 pm:

OW, Fox news doesn’t know the difference.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:45 pm:

    === Fox news doesn’t know the difference.===

    No, that’s the trick

They *know*, even the talent, the difference, the goal is confusing the audience that there is no difference.

  20. - Norseman - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:46 pm:

Add me to the lengthy list of folks who would thank Rick if he was behind blocking the troll. I doubt it because he’s a real journalist. Now, she would do it in a heartbeat if she thought anyone would care what she asked.

  21. - DownSouth - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:46 pm:

Thank heavens this is not a zoom meeting - otherwise you would have been subjected to seeing my ridiculous version of a scruffy old lady doing a happy dance…

  22. - Anon E Moose - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:46 pm:

==Not sure “objective” is the current standard.==

I dunno, WTTW seems to do a good job up here. Capitol Fax is good. Not sure why you want to denigrate the entire media.

  23. - Independent - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:50 pm:

The only question is who gets her first on their show, Hannity or Ingraham? Jacobson is dying for her 15 minutes on Fox and she will get it.

  24. - Chatham Resident - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:57 pm:

Is Amy related to Walter Jacobson?

  25. - walker - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 4:58 pm:

Don’t fall into her victimhood trap. Her many, many questions have been weak, but not intolerable.

  26. - Amalia - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:07 pm:

no government officials should answer questions from her. oh, and where is Lisa Stebic? Amy, if you were a real reporter, you would be on and on and on with that story.

  27. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:08 pm:

Well, at least now she has material to fill her 4 hours with Proft tomorrow morning.

  28. - Lucky Pierre - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:09 pm:

Can’t wait for George Stephanopolous to report this news that partisans with a political agenda are not allowed in media briefings.

  29. - Southern Skeptic - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:12 pm:

Delighted at this development. She’s Dan Proft’s sidekick and never should have been on the calls as has been evident from many of her loaded questions. I’m sure the gov is devastated.

  30. - TheInvisibleMan - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:14 pm:

    ===She lost her journalist credentials… poolside.===

That’s the very first thing that comes to my mind too whenever I hear her name. She could be reporting on puppies, and that pool is still the first thing that I would associate with her name.

  31. - Cubs in '16 - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:22 pm:

If/when she learns to ask a question without inserting a partisan political opinion they’ll consider taking her questions again.

  32. - FIO - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:27 pm:

I’m certainly not an Amy Jacobson fan, but the differences between journalists, media personalities, bloggers, opinion writers, etc has been blurred over the last 15 years. It would be better if it weren’t staff of elected officials deciding who gets access for questions. Gotta be a better way.

  33. - Temp Expat - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:28 pm:

Sorry, Amy. You’re not a member of the cool kids’ crowd.

  34. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:31 pm:

=== It would be better if it weren’t staff of elected officials deciding who gets access for questions. Gotta be a better way.===

Which journalist not Amy Jacobson is as confused about their role?

Which person should Amy Jacobson point to and say “why not me?”

I can’t think of one. Can you? Asking…

  35. - Under Influenced... - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:31 pm:

Jacobson has a history of “fine” journalism standards…
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2356908/Former-NBC-reporter-loses-lawsuit-CBS-aired-footage-bikini-house-suspected-murderer-case-covering.html

  36. - Reported - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:35 pm:

Jacobson isn’t a reporter and her bikini isn’t one either. Want proof? She accused another WIND reporter at the station of NOT being a reporter a number of years ago. WIND, you got lots to be proud of here. NOT.

  37. - Just Me 2 - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:44 pm:

She is a violator or basic journalistic ethics. You can’t report and make the news at the same time.

  38. - Excitable Boy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:44 pm:

Nobody can keep Any out of the pool(banned punctuation).

  39. - Lucky Pierre - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 5:59 pm:

I thought everyone was supposed to cancel their Tribune subscriptions because they were too biased against Illinois Democrats.

  40. - Marty Funkhouser - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:01 pm:

The most-interesting twist on this story is Katrina apparently siding with Proft and Jacobson instead of her own newspaper’s reporters. https://twitter.com/McQuearyKristen/status/1262195024583942144

  41. - Rich Miller - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:06 pm:

===has been blurred over the last 15 years===

    lol

You can’t speak at rallies whether in favor or opposed to a major public policy issue and expect to be treated as a reporter.

  42. - Excitable Boy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:09 pm:

    - they were too biased -

Shocking that you can’t distinguish between the editorial board and actual journalists.

Do your lips move when you read?

  43. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:12 pm:

=== I thought everyone was supposed to cancel their Tribune subscriptions because they were too biased against Illinois Democrats.===

LOL, the Editorial Board is not the journalism the paper delivers.

If there’s another “journalist” that lead a policy rally that’s asking questions, point them out.

  44. - Anonymous - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:23 pm:

Kass was on Chicago Tonight The Week in Review and just kept repeating that “people” are fed up with the stay-at-home orders. I think the polls are to the contrary and a “journalist” should know that.

  45. - SouthSide Markie - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:32 pm:

Real reporters report news. They don’ try to make news.

  46. - JS Mill - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:35 pm:

=Can’t wait for George Stephanopolous to report this news that partisans with a political agenda are not allowed in media briefings.=

I wouldn’t necessarily call GS a journalist, but since he left politics in 1996 (almost a quarter of a century ago) when was the last time he showed up at a rally? I wouldn’t want Michael Moore there either. He isn’t media.

Amy Jacobson is an activist (which is fine) and you can’t have it both ways.

Her behavior is embarrassing and it is a joke that she wants to then participate in a media briefing.

  47. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:39 pm:

    - Lucky Pierre -

First you say you’re not a supporter of Trump, now you’re defending Amy Jacobson?

    This is an interesting day.

  48. - Chatham Resident - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 6:57 pm:

Maybe they could also ban the reporters who asked the same questions–and get the same responses–every day earlier this month about will there still be Lollapalooza and the State Fairs, after the Governor explicitly stated that large festivals are unlikely until there’s a vaccine.

  49. - Michael Westen - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 7:16 pm:

George Stephanopoulos wants you to believe he’s an impartial journalist now. Did you fall for it?

  50. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 7:19 pm:

=== George Stephanopoulos wants you to believe he’s an impartial journalist now. Did you fall for it?===

    - Michael Westen -

Are you “always” the “both sides” kinda commenter?

Nothing Amy Jacobson has done since sitting poolside has shown a person with a journalist craft.

Right now, she’s a media personality, George Stephanopolous or not… lol

  51. - Excitable Boy - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 7:20 pm:

    - George Stephanopoulos -

Is he in the Illinois press pool? Are you people literally this devoid of actual logic?

  52. - RDB - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 7:55 pm:

I went to journalism school. What Ms. Jacobson did Saturday at the rally goes against all the ethics of what a reporter should do.

  53. - Now What? - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 8:14 pm:

First, thank you Rick Pearson for standing up for real journalists. You are a class act. Second, all the right-wing snowflakes and their “whatabout-isms” who don’t practice journalism can be the first in line at the Kenosha Olive Garden celebrating real freedom. With breadsticks.

  54. - Pundent - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 8:38 pm:

Real journalists report on rallies. They don’t lead them. Can’t have it both ways. Journalism 101.

  55. - Osborne Smith III - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 8:50 pm:

“I thought these briefings were reserved for reporters, not right wing schills”

And yet, Greg Bishop of The Center Square / IPI continues to get his questions asked, and he’s just as bad as Amy. Go figure.

  56. - Joa - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 9:26 pm:

Don’t forget the lefty snowflakes too, Now What. Too bad all the snow flakes don’t melt

  57. - Siualum - Monday, May 18, 20 @ 10:14 pm:

She and her ilk don’t want answers, they want to confront and accuse.

  58. - DMAC57 - Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 7:22 am:

Florida has seen a 300% increase in their daily rate since they went with their Laissez faire money first attitude.

  59. - iggy - Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 8:15 am:

    =Florida has seen a 300% increase=

April 14th, is about the time they started to ease restrictions (1,000 daily Confirmed infections)

May 16th, (754 confirmed daily infections)

show your work next time you spout off incorrect statistics.

—And yet, Greg Bishop of The Center Square / IPI continues to get his questions asked, and he’s just as bad as Amy. Go figure.—

Accurate, but he manages to maintain the journalist facade by not making stupid mistakes like speaking at rallies.

  61. - Pundent - Tuesday, May 19, 20 @ 8:53 am:

I’m fairly confident that Proft and Jacobson gave some consideration to this when they decided to have her speak at the rally. In fact this may have likely been their desired result. They can now engage in their whataboutism and claim that Pritzker is looking to silence his critics.
