IDPH admits some testing problems at several state sites

Friday, Jul 31, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is responding to a test processing delay involving tests conducted at certain state-run sites and sent to Reditus Labs. Processing of up to 3,800 tests conducted at state community-based or mobile testing sites for COVID-19 testing between July 12-24, 2020 have been delayed beyond the appropriate laboratory testing and reporting window.

Community-based and mobile testing that may have been impacted include sites in Aurora, Bloomington, East St. Louis, Peoria, Rockford, Rolling Meadows, and South Holland. While the vast majority of the more than 450,000 tests done at these state sites and sites across Illinois during the July 12-24 time period have already received their results, IDPH recommends individuals who have not yet received their results visit a free state-run testing location to have another specimen collected.

IDPH is working closely with Reditus Labs to improve their interface with specimen collection at state-run sites and ensure the processing of specimens moves forward in a timely manner. Specimens collected after July 24, 2020 are being processed and individuals will be promptly notified of their results.

IDPH is committed to increasing COVID-19 testing across Illinois and in continuously working to improve and streamline the process at community-based and mobile testing sites.

OK, but July 12th was almost three weeks ago.

My daughter was tested at the Aurora Outlet Mall site on Thursday, July 16. No results as of 4 PM today, 7/31

Just heard from 3 separate people in Peoria that tests taken at the Peoria Civic Center 9 days ago still had no results

That’s one way to bump up the positivity rate. I’m sure they won’t be double counting. And how can they be sure the vast majority of the 450,000 tests are valid? Hmmm…

Been hearing complaints about this from south siders. Lots of folks who tested in South Holland 10 to 14 days ago still waiting for results. State sites were previously returning results in 3-4 days.

  5. - Buford - Friday, Jul 31, 20 @ 4:39 pm:

Was tested at RM 7/7 never got results. Assume it was lost.

Not OK. Typical of the dismal, incompetent performance we have come to expect from state government in general and JayBob’s administration in particular.

The governor had a press conference with the CEO of Reditus on May 8.

One thing the GA should probably do is hold some hearings and take testimony from IDPH officials about how testing is going and what they expect this fall. Surely after all these months members have questions.

It’s one way the legislature could be more involved in the process.

Even if the administration is generally doing a good job, hearings are healthy and a necessary accountability mechanism. Also a way to catch problems and break through group-think that can happen even in the most well-intended administrations.

Although a Republican said it, trust but verify. It applies to your own party as much as an adversary. Maybe more so.

My family (4 of us) were tested at the Aurora location on Thursday 7/27 and received results between the following Saturday and Monday.

3800 tests out of 450000 is 0.84% of the tests so 99.16% of the tests results were provided in a timely manner. This is not failure.

I can think of literally 100s of things that are currently occurring that are dismal and incompetent, but this ain’t it.

  9. - No results - Wednesday, Aug 5, 20 @ 11:04 am:

I was tested by Reditus at the Aurora Outlet Mall on July 13. I was unable to get results until Aug 4, at which time I was told there was an error and I should get retested. Several co-workers had the same experience, as we were told to get tested right away due to possible exposure.
