* Press release…

Today, Rodney Davis’ campaign for Congress released a new ad titled “Madigan Machine,” which highlights Betsy Londrigan’s close ties to Speaker Mike Madigan’s corrupt political machine. The ad will be running on TV stations across IL-13 as well as online and digital platforms.

* Ad

* Script…

llinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is facing intense scrutiny after being subpoenaed in connection with a bribery investigation.

Mike Madigan is the most corrupt politician in Illinois and Betsy Londrigan is part of Madigan’s Machine.

Londrigan raises money for Madigan and his corrupt machine while her campaign is bankrolled by Madigan and his henchmen.

Now Londrigan is refusing to call for Madigan’s resignation.

Betsy Londrigan would make Washington more corrupt.

…Adding… Press release…

In response to Congressman Rodney Davis’ first TV ad that airs a misleading attack on his opponent rather than focusing on any accomplishments of his own, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan’s campaign released the following statement:

“After nearly a decade in Washington, Rodney Davis still can’t come up with a single positive reason for people to vote for him so he’s resorted to launching desperate and misleading attacks instead,” said campaign spokeswoman Eliza Glezer. “Davis doesn’t want Central Illinois families to know his real record of voting 11 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement, voting to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and voting against lowering the cost of prescription drugs. If Davis doesn’t have a record he can win on, he shouldn’t be running.”

    === Mike Madigan is the most corrupt politician in Illinois and Betsy Londrigan is part of Madigan’s Machine.

    Fire Madigan is so 2013.

    All this ad did was make me ask aloud, “what exactly has Rodney Davis done in Congress” and “when Davis was asked to impeach Donald Trump, how did he vote?”

    When you’re an enabler to a corrupt president (I mean, if we’re all friends and throwing around corrupt is a thing) what does it matter how Londrigan votes, “Davis votes to support Trump”

    As an ad?

    It’s a B.

    It’s designed for the old, angry, white, rural voters, the Trumpkins who see She-Caw-Go as evil and want a 51st state. Davis *needs* those voters to see this and vote for Davis, and keep those pesky college kids at bay. This ad hits all the marks. Solid B.

    7/10. It is quick to the point. Good job Matt Batcher, your best ad yet. Should have brought up some of the newer charges…explain that COMED Prices are the way they are because of that.

  3. - Donnie Elgin - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:10 am:

    Solid B - Targets the undecided voters - show that your opponent is corrupt. Easy to remember when filling out a ballot.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:12 am:

    ===Targets the undecided voters===

    Narrator: it’s a base ad.

  5. - Ryan - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:12 am:

    Meh. The Madigan schtick is getting old. Her ad featuring a former Davis supporter is far more effective. Davis supports Trump, meaning nothing he can do will get me to vote for him. I don’t care if you’re the local dog catcher you support Trump, you don’t get my vote, ever.

  6. - Marty36 - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:15 am:

    Republicans have been running campaigns against Madigan for 30 years. This is another failed example.

  7. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:15 am:

    Meh. I’m sure it tests well. But if Rodney is so concerned about keeping Washington pure from evil corruption, maybe there is a problem way bigger than Madigan that Rodney could have done something about, but didn’t.

    There was a whole impeachment thing. Rodney must have missed it. It was a long time ago though, so I understand why he might not want to discuss it.

    How stupid are the voters down there if this moves any numbers? Corruption is your issue and you can’t find any targets in Washington? Really?

  8. - ekimic - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:15 am:

    Makes me feel like he is admitting that things in Washington are corrupt and thats ok as long as we don’t elect someone who would make it more corrupt??

  9. - Jibba - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:16 am:

    Solid B as an ad for low information voters. Fits much of the district.

  10. - MoneyMoneyMoney - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:20 am:

    OW is right. This is the first ad I’ve seen from Davis this cycle but the ad doesn’t tell me anything about him, other than his opinion on Madigan. Unoriginal and unlikely to make much a difference in the race. C-

  11. - CubsFan16 - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:22 am:

    B. It fits the district and hammers the Madigan message. Yes, the Madigan stick is overused but that doesn’t mean it isn’t effective if used in the right area of the state.

  12. - @misterjayem - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:25 am:

    Has the IL-GOP fully automated these cookie-cutter “Look‼ Madigan‼” ads, or are they still paying somebody to cut-n-paste the desaturated photographs and proper names?

    If the goal is to pander to secessionist downstaters who couldn’t name the three branches of the federal government and think socialism is when the government does stuff then it’s an A+

  14. - Chicago Cynic - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:38 am:

    Forgive the question, but what is Rodney talking about? I know that facts are minimally important in ads, but this seems like something out of whole cloth. And it reminds me that they tried this on Sean Casten in 2018. I suspect this will work about as well.

  15. - olddog - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:42 am:

    Will somebody tell Congressman Davis he doesn’t get to vote for (or against) the state House speaker?

  16. - HotSauce - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:48 am:

    If this add were in the suburbs or Chicago I would give it a C. However, it is an effective message for Central Illinois, the 13th district, and the base it is targeting. Final verdict: B+

  17. - Steve Rogers - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:52 am:

    I guess the point of the ad is if you say Madigan’s name six times in a :30 span, then he goes away forever, like Beetlejuice, but in reverse?

  18. - ILLannoyed - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:53 am:

    I guess all politics are local huh? No need to run a roll out intro ad just get in the mud. That’s the Davis crew I know

  19. - bball_coach - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 10:59 am:

    The Madigan shtick might be old but it is accurate.

  20. - This Just In - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 11:16 am:

    =Meh. The Madigan schtick is getting old=

    Most certainly not original. It has, however, worked three election cycles in a row for Rodney.

    The “ but Madigan” schtick is tired and overused, but extraordinarily effective where the sentiment is still palpable (ie: the non college town portions of Rodney’s District).

    Rodney wins a close one here . . . . . . .again.

    p.s. - Betsy looks ridiculous acting like she doesn’t take Corporate dollars based on the nuance that they come from some dark corner fund. A silly, ineffective approach.

  21. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 11:36 am:

    They neglected the henchwomen?

  22. - Quizzical - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 12:20 pm:

    The most corrupt politician in Illinois is Rod Blagojevich, who is back endorsing Republicans because the President pardoned him.

  23. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 12:22 pm:

    “Betsy Londrigan would make Washington more corrupt.”

    I’d bet against that nearly impossible task.

  24. - DuPage Saint - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 12:27 pm:

    As a now semi Republican voter I am tired of Madigan all the time. And really the most corrupt politician in Illinois? He has not even been charged with anything. Try reading some Illinois history I bet you might find some Illinois politicians who act were convicted of corruption

  25. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 12:35 pm:

    - DuPage Saint -

    Thank you so much for your upcoming votes for me in DuPage.

    Remember it’s “Willy”, with the y… or it won’t count no matter the spelling.

    Keep your chin up, if the party implodes maybe the rebuild will be what the state politics needs, and the extreme voices of the Eastern Bloc will again be ignored… like the 51st state silky they all know is rubbish.

  26. - Frank talks - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 2:00 pm:

    A solid B it’ll play down there and work in concert with all the state Rep races saying the same thing.

  27. - Chatham Resident - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 2:31 pm:

    ==but extraordinarily effective where the sentiment is still palpable (ie: the non college town portions of Rodney’s District).

    Rodney wins a close one here . . . . . . .again.==

    Only to most likely get remapped in two years with Bost, LaHood, or/and Mary Miller (if she wins). Kinzinger likely could get a large chunk of the current 13th in the rural parts of the Champaign, Bloomington, Clinton and even Decatur areas too.

  28. - Jibba - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 4:33 pm:

    ===Betsy looks ridiculous acting like she doesn’t take Corporate dollars based on the nuance that they come from some dark corner fund===

    Voters don’t do nuance, as they say. And Rodney takes those contributions, so what is he criticizing, exactly?

  29. - SouthernGirl - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 4:35 pm:

    Rodney is my congressman. During his time in Congress he has repeatedly vilified the affordable Care act. He has taken contributions from firms that are actively harming his constituents with a poorly constructed gas pipeline and then refused to meet with constituents to address the problem with FERC. His mailers support Trump over and over and over. The good news about this dad is he must be feeling the heat from Betsy Londrigan to be conjuring Madigan.

  30. - RDB - Wednesday, Sep 9, 20 @ 7:26 pm:

    Highlighting ties to Mike Madigan is equivalent to Hillary Clinton’s email “scandal”. Enough, already.

  31. - low level - Thursday, Sep 10, 20 @ 9:05 am:

    Begs the question: what has Rodney done to make Washington LESS corrupt?
