ILGOP: “We must eliminate all Madigan loyalists and the scourge of corruption that they actively enable”

Wednesday, Nov 4, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From last night…

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider released the following statement in response to the news that Pritzker’ signature tax hike, Justice Kilbride of the 3rd Judicial District, and Judy Cates of the 5th Judicial District all went down in defeat:

“Tonight, Illinois voters rejected Springfield politician’s tax hike gambit, Madigan’s Favorite Judge Tom Kilbride, and Madigan donor Judy Cates. The Illinois Republican Party and our allies are putting everyone on notice, regardless of office: if you align yourself with and take money from one of the most corrupt machine politicians in the country, we are coming for you. From the legislative branch to the judicial branch, we must eliminate all Madigan loyalists and the scourge of corruption that they actively enable.

With Pritzker Democrats no longer able to use taxpayers to bail them out of our state’s financial disaster and a Supreme Court no longer stacked with a majority of Madigan pawns, Illinois now has a chance to enact much needed reforms. We hope the Governor, Speaker, and Democratic leaders finally join us in the effort to put taxpayers first.”

* And while the main group against the progressive income tax never once mentioned Madigan in their TV ads, they did send mailers like this one…

Thoughts?

I kind of give him credit for finding some silver linings but I sincerely hope he doesn’t really believe most of that.

To me the real message of this election is a real focus on a populist message without the baggage of Trump’s antics is a winning combination.

  2. - Suburban Operative - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 12:46 pm:

I agree. “… But Madigan!” was the only message for State leg candidates in the burbs as well as against Grad tax amendment/Kilbride. I predict the era of Madigan will be winding down within the next few years. Then what will the IL-GOP message be?

    A very smart campaign strategy.

Said by the party with super minorities in the Illinois General Assembly.

Put aside the defamatory and inflammatory rhetoric, this is more than a political threat. It’s meant to incite, divide, and create chaos. Just like Trump. The GOP has an opportunity to find it’s way back, but threats aint it.

    Oswego Willy right now: “…”

It’s like Plankton in SpongeBob, ranting loudly but being inaudible because he’s so small, making pipsqueak sounds. The ILGOP is a minority or super-minority party and will remain so for probably a long time. A party who is always angry and nasty should get little or no consideration that is not in the interests of the opposing party.

  8. - bogey golfer - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 12:56 pm:

13,740 voted for Madigan in House District 22.

This was the opportunity for others to express their opinion.

  9. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 12:58 pm:

How much was this really Madigan, though?

Dems are losing congressional seats that were shocking pickups in 2018 (Oklahoma, South Carolina) and others that were skin of their teeth for a few cycles (Collin Peterson in Minnesota). Not that Madigan had no effect, but there’s more evidence historically that the top of the ticket drives things down the ticket than the other way around.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

    === Thoughts?===

    72 HDems, super-majority
    40+ SDems, super-majority

All the statewide constitutionals, both US Senators, and Oberweis might be your lone pickup in the congressional delegation.

I dunno, seems like old, angry, white, regional and a super-minority status is a-ok.

Any persons of color win as Raunerites?

The HDems are now majority female, how about Raunerites in the caucuses?

In 2010, how many Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Will, Lake, McHenry Raunerite members sat in the GA.

How many now sit in the GA… in 2020?

In 2010… you had on the radar Dold, Hultgren, Walsh, Roskam…

In 2020, you have Krishnamoorthi, Casten, Schneider…

You’re losing the Miller seat downstate with the new map, heck, as a super minority, you have no voice in any of the new maps, including the Supreme Court map.

See, I’m saying all this… cause Madigan isn’t gonna help if he’s not going to be around.

Leader Brady is leaving. Will the next Leader see Cook and the Collars as important? Dunno.

Leader Durkin, with his wins, still 14 seats.

There’s a way. They don’t want to see it.

When Schneider can unequivocally prove to me that the IL GOP is absolutely pure of corruption themselves then he may have a leg to stand on.

Is Madigan a corrupt machine politician? Maybe. But if I was Tim Schneider I would not stay in that glass house too long.

But people that portray themselves as saviors coming riding in a the proverbial white horse eventually fall off the horse.

    OW-

    Kilbride - explicit MJM message
    Cates - explicit MJM message
    Rodney - explicit MJM message
Almost Esther - explicit MJM message
Fair tax - implicit MJM message
Net 2 seats in House - explicit MJM message

You have stated unequivocally multiple times that the Madigan message is an electoral failure. You were wrong.

Set aside the keyboard, pick up your fork, and eat that delicious crow like a man.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 1:10 pm:

So… two statehouse seats, a Supreme Court Justice no one “heard of”

Super-minority status, both chambers… no US Senate candidate…

And you think this is… winning?

You sure hitters not grifting on Raunerites, lol

=== You have stated unequivocally multiple times that the Madigan message is an electoral failure. You were wrong.===

Did the statehouse, either chamber flip?

    Davis was a hold.

Staying above water as a super minority isn’t wining in governing.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 1:27 pm:

    === that delicious crow like a man.===

Is the goal of the exercise to win 2 statehouse seats, save one congressional seat, apparently win another…

… or is the goal to govern?

You’d think you’d wanna win to get majorities. You’re crowing about… two… seats.

    Two.

    They need 14 more.

If the goal is to own Madigan, I’m confused where winning to govern happens.

  19. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 1:33 pm:

Supreme Court justice lost. you can end the discussion right there. This is not a legislative seat. this is the court. arrogance to not get out of the way.

Did the Raunerites get a majority of the ILSC?

You can end the discussion right there.

  22. - RNUG - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 1:40 pm:

So … does this mean the H-GOP will support a not-Madigan D for House Speaker?

  23. - Annoyed - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 1:42 pm:

I’ll add that Kilbride would have won if he was up against an actual Republican since he got more than 50%. So it’s not a shoe-in for an R to win this in 2022.

  24. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 2:04 pm:

Not sure how the ILGOP thinks Kilbride’s replacement will be from a different party or more conservative. It is a statewide and we have how many statewide R’s in Illinois?

  25. - PraireState Sense - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 2:04 pm:

I never understand why Madigans power is romanticized. This is a man who’s law firm specializes in lower property taxes in the state in which his helps set the multiplier.

  26. - PublicServant - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 2:06 pm:

LOL, the supermajority is coming for us. Good luck Timmy.

  27. - PublicServant - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 2:06 pm:

Gah, superminority. Wish I could type.

  28. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 2:15 pm:

When Schneider can unequivocally prove that Madigan is corrupt then he may have a leg to stand on. Until then, all he has is political puffers.

A few weeks ago, there were a couple of posts from ex-Madigan aides. What was memorable about the posts were comments that Madigan insisted on being scrupulous honest in all things. Any hint of corruption or dishonesty was dealt with harshly and quickly.

  29. - Annonin' - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 2:22 pm:

Glad you got caught up on Madigan images and fair tax…meanwhile is the CarwashKibg saying this is the path smarter kids, smoother roads…etc.?
Or do they more mugs to sell?

  30. - Chicagonk - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 3:01 pm:

ILGOP needs to find candidates for 75% of the races in 2022. It’s embarrassing how many seats they dont even bother contesting (or if there is a candidate, they offer no support).

  31. - Taxedoutwest - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 6:00 pm:

$137B in unfunded pension liability (yes, I understand began under Edgar, but it has just been compounded under liberal leadership), and a $5B budget hole. That’s close to 40 years of democratic rule. Now the liberals have moved to the suburbs, but the deficits continue. AFSCME and SEIU working for the Pritzker, and the teachers’ unions have not missed a paycheck since his shutdowns. Example; 70 days DMV was shut down and now is working at maybe 40% capacity but not a single one has missed a paycheck. That is one example of mismanagement and lack of cuts in the ongoing democratic IL. Do the R’s even matter. Nope. Hence the exodus.

  32. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 6:19 pm:

This is truly, the most comical thing I’ll read tonight, hands down. Hilarious.

===yes, I understand began under Edgar, but it has just been compounded under liberal leadership===

Even if I give you… give you 1991, that’s 30 years… and the pension ramp was designed to allegedly straighten out pension issues, so wiping away from “then” to 1992

Here’s where the mouth breathing begins to get silly.

    === That’s close to 40 years of democratic rule.===

    LOL…

    So, Edgar, 7 years, Ryan, 4 years, Rauner 4 years… 15 of the 30 years… Republican governors.

Dude, wear a mask, for all our sake.

=== Example; 70 days DMV was shut down and now is working at maybe 40% capacity but not a single one has missed a paycheck.===

Now it’s about people, hurting people.

Did you apply for a state job abd got turned down?

Are you saying other companies aren’t paying folks? You are going to decide who can make money?

I know you can’t figure out a calendar, but.., lol

== You have stated unequivocally multiple times that the Madigan message is an electoral failure. You were wrong.==

All this shows is that a broken clock is right twice a day. You say the same thing over and over and over again; finally things go your way and you think you’ve hit actual oil?

  34. - RNUG - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 7:02 pm:

    == I understand began under Edgar ==

    Nope.

It actually started over 100 years ago.

But the modern version started in 1974 when Dan Walker and the GA shorted the payments into the pension funds in order to balance the budget AFTER the Democrats wasted the excess revenue built into the original flat income tax. Teachers and other unions sued; that lead to the IL SC decision that (to paraphrase a bit) that the State could fund the pensions any way the GA wanted to … but the actual pension payments HAD to be made by the State on time / as due.

The Edgar Ramp was just a half honest attempt to somewhat fix the haphazard pension funding over the previous 20 years.

  35. - RNUG - Wednesday, Nov 4, 20 @ 8:14 pm:

Maybe I should have said spent instead of wasted … but the bottom line is they started new spending they didn’t have the funds for
