US Rep. Schneider tests positive, blames maskless GOP members

Tuesday, Jan 12, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* New York Times correspondent…

Schneider is the third member of Congress to blame Republicans for not wearing masks in a secure location during the insurrection last week.

* NBC 5

In an appearance on MSNBC on Monday morning, Schneider said he was “very concerned” about coronavirus exposure after seeing his colleagues refuse to wear masks during the lockdown.

“For whatever reason they chose not to put on a mask, they put the rest of us in danger,” he said.

“I called my wife to tell her I was safe. She was hysterical. I calmed her down, but I wanted nothing more than to come home and give her a hug. But because of what happened on the 6th, I have not been able to do that,” he continued. “I’m sleeping in the basement, I’m isolating, I’m wearing a mask when I’m in the house. And that’s the consequence of the selfishness and the arrogance of a few of these Republican members.”

“Their behavior was reprehensible,” Schneider said. “And it’s just really tragic that the selfishness and arrogance of a few Republican members put a lot of people at risk, including our staff.”

    Shouldn’t we be worrying about the US’s global standing and further acts of violence to “elect” Trump?

  2. - Lincoln Lad - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 10:34 am:

    It’s beyond the time for serious people to start acting like it. When smart people choose to follow a fool, they are the biggest fools of all. And, as we’ve seen - it’s dangerous.

    == Shouldn’t we be worrying about the US’s global standing and further acts of violence to “elect” Trump? ==

    The door is open. Everything is fair game.

    If you haven’t watched the video already, watch it. Their arrogance and mockery is infuriating.

    This is the behavior from the party of law and order and pro-life. Cognitive dissonance anyone.

    Everything is indeed fair game. And there is so much on the table that it’s easy to get distracted or say this is more important than that. But this is yet another example of how these elected officials that are there to represent “the people” really care very little about protecting the personal safety and health of people.

    Plenty pictures of maskless dems…

    ===Such drama===

    Contracting a potentially deadly disease because of arrogance by others while sheltering from marauding terrorists would be the very definition of drama. What in the heck is wrong with you?

  12. - Ares - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 11:07 am:

    Am very shocked at this, especially since I heard reports about Congresspeople being vaccinated. Am praying for his speedy recovery. These incidents are why every legislator needs vaccination, as the people’s business of governing is an essential activity, too.

  13. - Mary F - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 11:09 am:

    Not to minimize the failure to mask but didn’t the news report members of Congress qualified for the vaccine before Christmas? Just wondering how many were able to get it.

  14. - tea_and_honey - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 11:17 am:

    Many lawmakers got their first shot but not enough time has elapsed for them to get the second dose. Even after that it still takes time for the body to develop the antibodies needed for immunity.

    You need to recalibrate your thought processes and get educated. @#%!^

    Those that mocked masking and arrogantly declined to mask up more likely than not were caught on numerous cameras. What they fail to understand is that they have helped create some great clips for their re-election challengers. But even more critical and pertinent, they may have to live with the rest of their lives the damage they have done to their colleagues for the rest of their colleagues lives and possible their colleagues families… if not their own if they got infected that day.

  18. - BCOSEC - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 11:56 am:

    What House members from Illinois refused to wear a mask?

  19. - Just a Reader - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 11:59 am:

    I read these reports of members of Congress testing positive for COVID and find myself infuriated.

    The one that really got me was Rep Jayapal. First I read her account of the day. She had knee replacement surgery 5 weeks ago, and said that when they were locked in the House chamber, she was worried about whether she’d be able to get up and down the stairs quickly enough when they were evacuated. Then I saw last night that she’d tested positive for COVID.

    I think of how members of Congress typically refer to their “friends” from the other party. I don’t know how they can bring themselves to work with their “friends” after this. First they help incite, organize, and encourage rioters who put their lives in danger. Then, when sheltering from the rioters, they knowingly expose them to COVID.

    I don’t know how they go on working collegially with them after this. They are better men and women than I am, because I just couldn’t do it.

    Some photos in this article might help id those that ignored House Rules during the swearing in ceremony.

    - Precinct Captain - She is on the front page of the daily caller not wearing a mask. Pictures are all over the place if you look.

    Now unseat whomever isn’t wearing a mask in that photo. Nobody will miss Jim Jordan, certainly not those wrestlers from his old gig.

  23. - Nax - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 12:37 pm:

    I guess the question I have is if any of the Republican members of Congress have tested positive? Seems like that would be an important consideration in figuring out who to blame.

  24. - justice for black trans women - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 12:46 pm:

    Not wearing masks does not cause the spread of COVID-19 unless the maskless is already infected with COVID-19. What evidence do you have that the maskless Republicans were infected previous to this event? Do you have information on who was patient zero? The presence of maskless people is not evidence. If you have evidence to support the claim of Rep Schneider, you should publish it. If you have no evidence and Rep Schneider has no evidence, you should correct your headline to state he is blaming them without evidence.

    Noted.

  27. - Just Reading - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 1:23 pm:

    Justice for Black Trans Woman has a point, except for telling Rich how to run his blog.

    Rep. Schneider’s claim is pure political hyperbole, worth exactly what we voluntarily pay for it . . .

    Love it!

  29. - Dotnonymous - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 1:47 pm:

    They won’t wear a mask to protect the public…but will wear them to protect their shameful and criminal identity.

  30. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 1:56 pm:

    @JBTW: Wearing masks DOES prevent the spread of COVID-19 regardless of who may have it or may not have it. What evidence do you have that the maskless Republicans were NOT infected previous to this event? Do YOU have information on who was patient zero? The presence of maskless people is pretty strong evidence. If you have evidence to REJECT the claim of Rep Schneider, you should publish it. If you have no evidence, you should correct your post to say that Rep. Schneider might be right.

  31. - 2nd City Expat - Tuesday, Jan 12, 21 @ 4:13 pm:

    Won’t all those maskless Republicans get Covid too? Seems logical to me.
