I don’t understand what’s going on. I don’t think most of America understands what’s going on in our news and with our headlines and with these police shootings. Friends, it’s very simple. If you’re pulled over, if you’re asked on the street for questions good grief why wouldn’t you cooperate? There’s one thing in common with every one of these shootings and that’s that these people decided not to comply, not to cooperate with law enforcement. The men and women of law enforcement of our police force are here for one purpose, that is to serve and protect. To keep us and our communities safe. Why would you run and not stop if you’re innocent? Why would you do that? We have got to start teaching our children the importance of right and wrong. I think that’s what we’re missing today, we’re living in some interesting times and we know that. […]
People in downtown Chicago, they’re not the churches, they don’t desire this nonsense. It’s just simply that they’ve heard a singular message for a long time and they’ve heard nothing else and they don’t know any different. That seems to be the case from many of our conversations. But they want the law enforcement, they want police officers, they want to be safe in their communities. Yet we have these instances and events where one person you know takes off running from law enforcement and bad things happen. […]
Every day brings a new story in the headlines and it’s amazing. But the one thing again that I see that we have this all of this has in common is from people who are concerned that they’re not innocent, they run from the law. When you do that, we’re gonna have problems. Don’t put these people in that kind of position. God help our Governor that stands up and speaks in agreement with this stuff, that’s our problem. When you have leaders in Springfield and in Washington who stand with this stuff then that’s a fair sign that we’ve got to get engaged and we’ve got to stop this.

Today I come to this event that is really about great joy about our future and our children’s future, but I come with a heavy heart and profound grief. And I hope I speak for all Illinoisans who are aching for Adam Toledo and his family. The video of Adam’s death is devastating, just devastating. It is unbearable to think of his family, seeing these last moments of his life. And it is searing to know that a 13 year old lost his life in this way. It’s abundantly clear that our entire system failed Adam. The appropriate authorities must move quickly to investigate and adjudicate what happened that night in Little Village in the interests of justice and accountability. For all of us, we also have much work to do. And I asked all of us to commit to this work and to pray for Adams’s Family, for his friends, and for his community. And to pray that all Illinoisans can be safe, especially our young people.

This is they guy who lied his way onto the House floor by claiming he got tested for COVID, encourages everyone to violate social distancing rules, and refused to condemn the leaders of the Capitol insurrection.

Perhaps if the Capitol Police had killed more of the terrorists involved in the attack on our national Capitol on January 6th Senator Bailey would be able to have more solidarity with the victims of police violence.
Instead he simultaneously believes that compliance prevents the violence which requires ignoring the two officers that attacked 2nd Lt. Nazario as he was in complete compliance with police instructions and stopped while even though there had been no violation of the law.
At least Bailey’s campaign canvassers will be easy to spot on account of their white hoods and the crosses they’re setting ablaze.

Please do not attribute Darren Bailey’s comments to all Republicans. I disavow them and I am GOP 100 percent. His rhetoric comes from a place of being unable to have his own heart move. Very sad when he is actually praying that God will change other hearts.

“Why would you run and not stop if you’re innocent?” That goes right along with “If you’re innocent, you have nothing to hide.” The Fourth Amendment (which BTW is every bit as important as the First and the Second) says that *because* I am innocent, they have no right to stop me.

Wright didn’t comply - he got back into the car and endangered everyone at the scene. Obviously he did not deserve to get shot / and die. That’s tragic.
The Toledo shooting- the cop had 8/10ths of a second and the kid was angled unfortunately in a way that the last view the cop had was him with a gun.
Both of these are tragic events but the Minnesota one was much more tragic because Toledos age is a footnote after the fact. Everyone must do better.

Bailey’s garbage is just complete nonsense that, unfortunately, has always had a home in American politics. It’s just that now, instead of 80% of the voting public believing this drivel it’s “only” 48% (Trump vote %). Don’t think for a moment that in 1965, a kid running down an alley, maybe with a gun, at 2am would be receiving the kind of sympathy Adam Toledo is. So as odious as Bailey’s words are, the fact that the majority of society’s reaction to his words is very negative is positive.

The cop had 8/10 of a second because he decided to have 8/10 of a second. He had activated “lethal force” mode before the subject could comply. The kid’s hands we going up, gun dropped, as requested, when the cop decided to fire anyway.
If we’re defending the police response by citing the heat of the moment and the difficulty of making life-or-death split-second decisions in real time, we need to hold that officer and their department responsible when the wrong split-second decision is made. Killing a 13-year-old for following police orders and chalking it up to “Well, win some lose some, sad for all parties involved” does not cut it.

I’m still chilled by the video of Mia Wright and other women in a car in parking lot of party store in the late spring of last year.
Cops roll up on them, demand of bunch of stuff out of them and just turn to beating them and dragging them out of car on a Sunday morning.

Not trying to be mean here, but I’ve learned in my life that if I ever have a need to say this about a group I belong to, the onus is on me to determine if I still want to belong to that group, not to try to defend the group.

Prior to the signing of the Magna Carta, people were tortured until they talked.

“The men and women of law enforcement of our police force are here for one purpose, that is to serve and protect. To keep us and our communities safe.” If Bailey seriously believes this, he is too stupid to hold public office. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that police have no mandate to protect any individual. You can’t sue the police if they don’t show up. Bailey illustrates the “Dragnet” mentality: the police ring your doorbell and you invite them in your house for coffee. Sad.

He stopped. He raised his hands. He was killed.
That’s is not up for discussion.
To discuss something that is inherently untrue to this is what Bailey will do, and that’s not leadership to this crisis overall.
