    See Eric Adams.

  2. - Shibboleth - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 9:17 am:

Trying to figure out what the weather is doing to us. One of the least enjoyable things about Illinois is the unpredictability of the weather. It’s so difficult to acclimate when it can’t decide how warm it wants to be.

  3. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 9:22 am:

I know I’m being petty and in the long run it’s good to have as many people vaxxed as possible. BUT, people who waited this long don’t deserve one day Lalla passes.

  4. - Common Sense - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 9:27 am:

Think focus now should be on those who are being hospitalized after refusing to get vaccinated. So many needless deaths and hospitalizations now.

  5. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 9:38 am:

    ===See Eric Adams===

    Exactly

Every so often I joke about giving up the practice of law, moving to Crete, and trying to produce the perfect olive oil.

Some people leave Illinois because of taxes or crime or jobs. I may be the first to leave to become a farmer on a small mountain/huge hill in a place best known as the center of the Minoan Civilization.

    @ Crash -

And the birthplace of Nikos Kazantzakis.

LaRussa Sucks. Hahn needs to make a trade. Tired of AA and AAA ballplayers on the team

  9. - Red Ketcher - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:06 am:

Don’t have to leave Illinois to move to Crete.
Best known for semi-civilization at Old Town Tap.
    Olive Oil ?

  10. - Moved East - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:06 am:

After reading today that we may not know who the New York Mayor is until mid-July I just want the laws to change to allow two things 1) expand the laws and options so that as many people as possible can vote, vote early (even earlier than now) and vote by mail 2) that no matter how you vote, the vote has to be in by the close of polls on election day (oversees military can be exempted).

Lets get people to vote and lets declare winners as soon as possible. The languishing counts and wait for ballots only adds fire to those who say that the elections are illegitimate.

===The languishing counts and wait for ballots only adds fire===

Or you could stop playing their silly games.

And in an Illinois connection to the NYC results, good old Bradley Tusk is getting blamed for Andrew Yang’s campaign flameout.

    Moved East…

I am not sure how much more open the voting process could be. The 2020 presidential turnout set a record. I get weary of hearing about all these people who are “disenfranchised” if you want to vote, for heaveans sake, at this point you can vote.

  14. - ZC - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:24 am:

There were no exit polls given the cost and complexity, but Data for Progress did pretty well predicting the first round, so maybe its crosstabs are accurate.

Looks like Eric Adams pulled in about 1/3 of the electorate without a college degree, almost 1/2 of the African American vote and about 1/3 of the Hispanic / Latino vote. That’s an underrepresented demo on Twitter, but in a multi-candidate field, that’s hard to beat.

  15. - SWIL_Voter - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:30 am:

What is it with the Twitter takes? They usually seem to be directed at DSA types, but it’s weird that this time DSA notably explicitly stayed out of the NYC mayor’s race, yet the takes came anyway. Journalists spend more time there than anybody. I thought the MJM post was making fun of them

  16. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:53 am:

    ===LaRussa Sucks===

    We’re in first place, dimwit.

  17. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:54 am:

Ranked choice voting is so new that one tv talking head said that the person who finishes first the first round doesn’t eventually win. at least I think that is what he said. When Mayor DeBlasio used pizza topping to explain how the process works, I think the process has jumped the shark.

  18. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 10:57 am:

=Would you like to get something off your chest?=
    Where do I start?

  19. - Treefiddy - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 11:23 am:

Agree with Cheryl44, I’m happy I was vaccinated as soon as I was eligible, but it’s annoying to think I’m not eligible for any of these prizes being given out to those who waited months to get vaccinated.

  20. - Skeptic - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 11:26 am:

=Would you like to get something off your chest?=
Well, there’s this cat for one. I really need to pee.

  21. - Scott Cross for President - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 11:31 am:

Twitter is LinkedIn for people looking to lose their jobs.

  22. - Chicagonk - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 11:40 am:

Renaming Lake Shore Drive has to be one of the worst decisions aldermen have made in the past 5 years.

  23. - @misterjayem - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 11:47 am:

“no matter how you vote, the vote has to be in by the close of polls on election day *** lets declare winners as soon as possible. The languishing counts and wait for ballots only adds fire to those who say that the elections are illegitimate.”

Because each state could choose its own election day, the voting in the 1800 presidential election between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams lasted from April to October.

We don’t need to let the impatient business models of 24-hour cable news and social media determine how our elections are conducted.

  24. - cermak_rd - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 12:52 pm:

Crash, my first take was Olives in Crete, isn’t it a bit cool in Will county for Olives?
Oh you mean the other Crete.

  25. - Skeptic - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 1:11 pm:

“We don’t need to let the impatient business models” My brain immediately when to an on-line voting site where you click on a candidate to vote, and the bottom it says “You might also like …”

  26. - Six Degrees of Separation - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:02 pm:

    ===moving to Crete===

When you get there, say hi to Mayor Einhorn for me.

  27. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:03 pm:

=======The languishing counts and wait for ballots only adds fire===

Accurate matters more than fast. Conspiracy theorizing is as old as the republic (older) and we should not be in the business of letting those unmoored from reality drive our practices.

  28. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:06 pm:

Oh, and RCV which I’m fairly neutral on doesn’t have to take that long to count. Saint Paul and Minneapolis can get it done in less than a week. That’s a NY problem which as a state and city have some of the worst voting laws and practices in the country. Left to their own devices they’d still be using those pull lever machines.

  29. - SWIL_Voter - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:11 pm:

== RCV which I’m fairly neutral on doesn’t have to take that long to count. ==

Media seems to be running with the line that RCV is why the results will be slow, but I’m pretty sure they’re accepting ballots until like June 29th

  30. - McGuppin - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:17 pm:

I see Ray McGuire has clocked in with 2.3% of the vote so far in the NYC mayoral race…..oof.

  31. - Crash - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:28 pm:

For those asking about the move to Crete:

It has to be one that is part of Greece.

We looked at the one in Illinois, but it is too close to Monee. We all have our priorities.

  32. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, Jun 23, 21 @ 2:51 pm:

====but I’m pretty sure they’re accepting ballots until like June 29th

I believe that is correct, but NYC & NYS are also awful at running elections.
