*** UPDATED x1 *** Rodney Davis email claims he was going to use “sham” insurrection probe to “expose” Democrats “for the lies they have been feeding the American people”

Wednesday, Jul 21, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Speaker Pelosi was OK with the appointment of US Rep. Rodney Davis and two other Republicans, but not these two

Plans for a bipartisan committee to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection fell apart Wednesday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) moved to block two controversial Republicans appointed by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from sitting on the panel — paving the way for two separate and largely partisan investigations of the violent attack on the Capitol.

Pelosi called on McCarthy to name two new Republicans to the committee after refusing to appoint conservative Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.), a privilege she has as speaker. As staunch backers of former president Donald Trump, both members voted against his impeachment and pushed to overturn the election results certifying Joe Biden as president.

“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” Pelosi said in a statement. “The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision.”

* Rodney Davis fundraising email late this afternoon…

Friend, the Democrats were OUTRAGED when they learned strong conservatives like Jim Jordan and I were standing up to Nancy Pelosi and her sham investigation into January 6th.

They were so scared that I was going to expose them for the lies they have been feeding the American people, they refused to seat our GOP members.

What is Nancy Pelosi hiding and why is she trying to ruin THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE for it?

The January 6th Commission is another attempt from Nancy Pelosi and other radical Democrats to LIE about what happened on January 6th. Now, she is denying Jim Jordan and GOP dissent because she knows we will hold her accountable! It’s clear that this is just a partisan ploy to attack President Trump.

Nancy Pelosi is using politics to attack President Trump. This egregious abuse of power is an insult to Republicans, Patriots, and all red-blooded Americans!

That’s why I NEED your help, Friend.

Donate just $6 today and help me STOP Nancy Pelosi’s partisan ploy and STAND UP for the patriots who are being attacked falsely for January 6th.

SUPPORT RODNEY DAVIS — DONATE $6

The Democrats REFUSE to solve the crisis on our southern border, stop rising inflation, or help working-class Americans.

All they want to do is ATTACK, DIVIDE and CANCEL strong Conservatives all across our country.

Nancy Pelosi was afraid that we were going to expose how power hungry she is. Now her plan is to cancel Republicans from fighting back!

Chip in just $6 BEFORE MIDNIGHT and help me stand up for America >>>
\SUPPORT RODNEY DAVIS — DONATE $6

Thank you,

Rodney Davis

That is not the claim of a person who is itching to be governor. And if he is, that’s probably not the sort of thing or people (Jim Jordan, for one) he should be associating with.

Anyway, deep breaths before commenting. Thanks.

*** UPDATE *** DPI…

The following is a statement from DPI Executive Director Abby Witt in response to Congressman Rodney Davis attempting to fundraise off a “sham” insurrection investigation:

“Too bad Congressman Davis isn’t as hysterical about insurrectionists storming the Capitol as he is about fundraising deadlines. Rodney Davis has never cared about finding the truth of the Jan. 6 insurrection and is only focused on proving his credentials as an extreme GOP Trump-loyalist. We see through his hypocrisy and don’t need Rodney Davis in Illinois or the halls of Congress.”

Clearly preparing for a more right wing district. I’m almost giddy to see him square off with Miller.

Gotta prep for that primary against Miller I guess?

I’m confused why the only manner in which he can reveal the information is the commission of which he resigned from.

Imagine a picture of Davis and Jordan claiming fallacies …

… at a run for governor.

Office shopping *is* hard… this makes things more muddy.

  6. - MZ - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 7:42 pm:

Well now that’s just disappointing…I was honestly hoping that he would be one of the more reasonable voices on the GOP side. It’s a shame McCarthy won’t recommend Kinzinger…or maybe the Dems could. It’d be nice to have the two reasonable voices, Kinzinger and Cheney, have a voice here.

  7. - Bruce( no not him) - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 7:44 pm:

Yep, that was going to be a real bipartisan commission.

  8. - Nick - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 7:45 pm:

His maneuver here are kind of awkward if he wants to run.

I suppose, if he had been on the committee, it would be a great chance to rail on about fraud or something to help him in a Republican primary.

… but at the expense of how he’d do in a general.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 7:56 pm:

    To Davis,

The committee member choices were designed, 2-fold

    * Make Pelosi scrap it (the committee) at jump street, claim victory, call everything a sham to protect the cult and cult leader.

    * Actually convene and (as Davis gaslights in his letter) make a mockery and be as disingenuous to the insurrection as possible to appease the cult and cult leader.

Davis, a real phony, embraces the “sham” gaslighting, and makes clear, “Mr. Bipartisan” was never about holding accountable those who incited an insurrection, but feed the lemmings; racists, conspiracy theorists… and let the insurrectionists off the hook.

That’s not how you become Illinois’ governor in a primary or general election.

This is real pandering to the marks who will give money to those who support the cult and all the vile that supporting the cult means… with Jim Jordan leading the way.

    Words matter.

    They should matter.

    I believe Rodney Davis.

Stand up for the people who fueled the big lie and insurrection by voting to overturn the election? In a state Biden carried by 17 points? That will work real well in a statewide race, against someone stuffed to the gills with campaign cash. Please proceed.

This type of letter …and follow through (hanging with Jim Jordan, becoming cult like in thinking, defending insurrectionists) … it’s ruinous to one’s character, and this stink, this stench, this soiling of your soul to appease cult followers…

… who exactly are you… what have you become?

This isn’t a “one time” deal, this is an “all in” appeal… “I am one of you”… why you’d want to be counted with the Jim Jordans of American History, now and always, is puzzling and ruinous to your character.

Imagine what Pritzker’s Crew could do with $150 million designed solely (outside the other $100 million he will likely spend) to ruin you. This makes it too easy. Davis spells out who he is. No need for interpretation.

    It’s nauseating… and won’t go away. Nope.

    ===If===

We don’t even know what the map looks like.

    Here’s what real;

Bost, Davis, Miller will be vying for TWO ruby red districts.

    Why?

Because drawing Mary Miller’s district out is how Illinois complies with not only losing a seat, but keeping 13 seats Blue which is the goal of the Dems drawing the map.

To all my dear friends here at CapFax:

I know that only a few people here, like me and Filmmaker Prof, have the displeasure of having “Where’s Rodney?” as our Congress critter.

This fundraising email he sent out today?

“Where’s Rodney?” has always been like that.

This isn’t new behavior, or a new attitude from him.

The boy’s a weasel, but the folks in DC love the money his parents made, and the Republicans back here keep falling for his schtick.

With any luck at all, he and Mary Miller will be fighting against each other, and we’ll get to see an Olympic-level competition between them as to who can out-stupid the other.

(Some of you will reach for popcorn. I’ll be in the bathroom, retching.)

I only hope that God loves Champaign-Urbana enough to get us in another district.

“Where’s Rodney?” has always crawled this low, through the stables and cow lots and pig pens of this district.

That stink ain’t just from Jim Jordan.

You’re finally just getting to see what those of us who are smart enough to vote against him have always known.

He should have never gotten to this level of responsibility. Our district, our state, and our nation have been impoverished by the time he’s spent being a Congress critter.

    With deepest sadness,

    Me

Davis’ behavior brings to mind the scene from “The Exorcist”- head spinning and pea soup spewing. And as for being THE ONE to expose lies… narcissism at his best. Remember, Davis was one of the Republicans that used extremely hostile language when having to go through metal detectors at the Capitol just after the 6th. Frankly, what he’s pleading for in his fundraising plea is exactly what he was shouting at Capitol police on January 12th, 2021- ” Another representative, Rodney Davis of Illinois, was heard shouting that the checks were ‘horses***.’ Davis went through the metal detector, but then came back and was heard telling House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., that the new measures were ‘bulls***,’ and they were diverting valuable resources. He also said GOP members weren’t consulted by security officials before they were installed.” https://www.npr.org/sections/insurrection-at-the-capitol/2021/01/12/956254491/republicans-lash-out-against-new-security-measures-at-the-capitol

Your Jim Jordan type wrestling away from the discussion to deflect is noted.

It’s on brand for you, not wanting the insurrection investigated.

  36. - Keyrock - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 7:56 am:

The bipartisan commission was killed by the GQP in the Senate.

The last thing McCarthy wants is a real investigation. His play is the hope that he can dirty up Pelosi’s committee enough that he can get away with not testifying against Trump.

Rodney Davis seems to be hoping he can beat Miller in a primary, despite being a worthless banned word.

  37. - Pundent - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 8:08 am:

=Sound like bipartisan investigation to you so far?=

The former President regularly stoked division, denied the results of our democratic process, and encouraged the violence that culminated in the insurrection of January 6th. And your argument is that we have to look at this objectively?

  38. - Arsenal - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 8:20 am:

==Sound like bipartisan investigation to you so far?==

Absolutely. Both parties are represented. And the Dems gave one of their seats to a Republican, so it could be 7-6 if McCarthy hadn’t pulled all his Republicans off the committee.

Of course, while empty-headed “BIPARTISAN” sloganeering is your thing right now, it’s not actually all that essential. If the committee is bipartisan, but doesn’t actually get anything done, then it doesn’t matter. Similarly, if Rodney Davis sponsors a lot of bills with Democrats, but none of them pass, it doesn’t matter. Don’t be so shallow.

==Seems strange they are ignoring the will of 66% of voters who want the origins of the 2020 riots all across the country also investigated?==

The origin of the 2020 riots was cops murdering black men. Different things ought to be treated differently.

So, in LP’s world, Liz Cheney is no longer a Republican.

  40. - Arsenal - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 8:23 am:

(Similarly, the origin of the insurrection was Trump refusing to accept the reality that he lost and lying to his supporters that he’d been cheated. But the Committee won’t really be investigating those origins so much as the security failures that allowed those supporters to storm the Capitol, as well as determining if there was any explicit communication and planning between Trump’s outfit and the insurrectionists.)

“The bipartisan commission was killed in the Senate.”

Basically, the people calling the select committee a sham voted against a real investigation. And it is 7 democrats to 6 republicans. Liz Cheney was added by the Speaker. Bipartisan doesn’t mean completely equal.

Speaker Pelosi said she wanted a 9/11 type bipartisan committee to investigate January 6th.

There were 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats on that committee and the report was widely viewed as serious an non partisan

The 1/6 committee had Democrats appoint 8 members and the Republicans 5 but then two of those were removed by the Speaker.

Amazing how the Democrats are never held to account by so many for playing partisan games instead of solving real problems

If one were to look back, even at your most bot days and compare your comments now… it’s amazing how far you’ve gone… that’s not a compliment.

This idea you want bipartisanship, your thought to that isn’t honest to facts that brought us even here.

    Davis was not removed, yet…

=== They were so scared that I was going to expose them for the lies they have been feeding the American people, they refused to seat our GOP members.===

Think on that turn of a phrase… Dems are so scared of Davis… “of Davis”… that they refused to seat Jim Jordan.

Can a phrase be any more dishonest to ones reality of existence?

Plus, your dismissal of Liz Cheney is noted.

  48. - JS Mill - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 9:46 am:

@LP-Q, the meaning of words matter. “Like” does not mean “the same” it means “similar”. Bipartisan means both parties in this case.

And, since you like word games, the speaker did not remove any members of the commision, she vetoed their membership as they were not yet a member.

Word games are fun aren’t they?

I see you also had fun with math, but others fixed that for you.

=Seems strange they are ignoring the will of 66% of voters=

The hypocrisy of your statement is insane even for you. The will of the voters was expressed in a victory for President Joe Biden. that is first and foremost.

That will has been resoundingly rejected by the loser cult. As a result, the majority do not care much what the cult wants and, as Arsenal pointed out, we already know what started the summer of 2020 protests. Everyone does, it is just that some on the right are dishonest and want to deflect from their attempt at a coup d’etat.

  49. - Arsenal - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 9:58 am:

==Speaker Pelosi said she wanted a 9/11 type bipartisan committee to investigate January 6th.==

And she passed a bill for that kind of commission through the House.

Then Republicans filibustered it in the Senate.

So Pelosi set up a select committee in the House, because otherwise, there just couldn’t be any investigation at all. She gave her party- the majority party, the party most people voted for in 2020- just a 2 seat majority on the Committee. And then she *still* gave one of her party’s seats to a Republican.

Now, that Republican will continue to serve on the committee, so it’ll continue to be Bipartisan. The only reason she’ll be the only Republican on it is that McCarthy pulled all the other ones off it. That’s on him, that’s his actions. I’m sure the “party of personal responsibility” won’t go so far as to say that *someone else* is responsible for his actions, right?

    Right?

  50. - Arsenal - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 10:02 am:

    To the post:

A one-off, list-building “fundraising” email probably won’t really mean much for Davis’ Gubernatorial race, if that’s all it is.

But if it’s a signal that he wants to or think he needs to cozy up to the lunatic fringe in his party, well, continuing down that path will create unnecessary challenges for him in a statewide General Election. Illinois has had a lot of chances to join the Trumpists, and its passed each time. In fact, it usually goes with the guys who are a little over-the-top in their anti-Trump rhetoric.

==Speaker Pelosi said she wanted a 9/11 type bipartisan committee to investigate January 6th.==

To my recollection, the above referred to 9/11 commission investigation did not consist of any pro Al-Qaeda faction members.

Perhaps calling upon her rejected domestic members for testimonial investigation into why they think there was no harm done on January 6th would be appropriate.

LP wrote: “There were 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats on that committee and the report was widely viewed as serious an non partisan

The 9/11 Commission was independent. When Pelosi proposed a similar, independent 1/6 Commission, it would have an equal number of members appointed by both parties. However, an independent commission was killed by the Republicans in the Senate.

The committee approved by the House that Davis was appointed to is similar to the Select Committee on Benghazi, approved by the House when it was controlled by the Republicans. The membership of that committee was 7 Republicans and 5 Democrats.

  59. - Glenn - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 11:26 pm:

    == The 9/11 Commission was independent.==

But then again there was no dispute about the harm done on 9/11.

The 9/11 commission was not debate about the actual harm.

It was a common investigation about the mutually recognized harm.
