Doesn’t sound like you hate it. It’s fun to be glib like that until an unvaccinated person infects a kid who isn’t allowed to get the vaccine. Or until it’s your friend or relative who just won’t listen to reason and gets covid while unvaccinated.

These numbers, given the current environment, tell me that Dems should be running tough on Covid (leadership), and let the GOP gov front runners double down and set the tone for the general (ie; circular firing squad up AND down the ballot.
When your opponent is explaining, they’re losing.
Covid and Trumpism will fade slowly to other issues over time. But continuing to appeal ONLY to your base just to get whacked by moderate voters in the general is NOT an affective plan to build back the GOP in Illinois.

Yep. Anti-vax/mask messaging is not a winning formula in the suburban areas the GOP is hoping to regain or defend. Problem is, it might be a winning message in Republican primaries, which is why plenty of Durkin’s members will use it between now and June. (Subscribers know more.) Short term primary gain will lead to general election pain — and Durkin know it.

Yes. Thankyou for posting a photo. Did you notice the number of cars honking in support? That photo was probably taken before everyone got there. This rally was organized by local citizens at the last minute and having 60-70 who came including families was a good number for a short notice rally. I remember when the very first reopen Illinois rally had five people last year and was reported by Center Square news. Several reopen rallies followed with hundreds in attendance. Government by the people, so give them there voice.

I have a problem with celebrating Darwin because social Darwinism has been a wholly negative ideology since it began. THe idea that some people are not worthy of human life. Even the unvaccinated are not that. They are obstinate, misinformed, at times, disinformed, and willfully ignorant, but they are not unworthy of human life.
Also, about 1% of the COVID deaths are in the vaccinated bucket so that is (back of the envelope math) about 15 people a day. People who did what they thought they needed to survive. It’s just that the uncontrolled spread across the nation puts a stress test on the vaccine.

I’ve seen this same echo chamber developing on local social media. They honestly think, and have said, “Based on the comments on this story it looks like the tide is turning and people are starting to wake up”.
It hasn’t crossed their mind that the majority of people have simply disengaged from them and have left them behind. In the little echo chamber of social media, they think the same 8 people saying the same thing means they are winning.

The point is, when it comes to the media and the press, give the people a voice and not squelch or ignore their views. It doesn’t matter if others disagree or not, let the people be heard and the media needs to do a better job. Exactly! It’s why I don’t mind being a little glib since the air is coming out of their tiers so quickly. Only so many will be claiming religious exemption, or will be silly enough to quit a good job or whatever else they’re doing. They’re getting vaxed one way or another.

When I was a sophomore in high school, I decided to run for student body president. My friends in home room were all enthusiastic and supportive. When the election was held, I overwhelming won the votes of my small circle of friends, and no one else. I learned an important lesson that day about living in an echo chamber. It seem that Concerned in Illinois and many others on social media have not learned that lesson.

Would you respect someone who argued that the various safety measures on cars (from windshields to bumpers to airbags) don’t work? I wouldn’t. I would think they had no idea how those things work and I certainly wouldn’t “respect” their opinion or the ignorance behind it. Likewise with folks who do not understand how masks and vaccines work. I don’t respect willful ignorance, nor do most of the folks who post here.

Just stop. No one is trampling on your rights to have a rally. Have all of them you need to make you feel better. It doesn’t change the fact that no sensible person cares about them. You misunderstand. I have one of those unvaccinated kids and worry daily that he will come home from school sick. But it is the unvaccinated that are doing this to themselves and our society. I am furious with the intentional infliction of disinformation from the former president and the stupidity of his followers that are driving this.

I work in social media, and as you appear not to know this, I’m going to tell you: Most anti-vaccine and anti-mask content on Facebook and other social media outlets either originates from or is heavily signal-boosted by Russian state disinformation campaigns. If you’re posting on Facebook or Twitter and get a bunch of people agreeing with your anti-vax points, it’s NOT because there’s a ton of Illinois citizens who agree with you — it’s because Russian disinformation campaigns are targeting the right wing in the US because they can MAKE AMERICANS LITERALLY KILL THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER by boosting anti-mask, anti-vax propaganda.
You don’t want to live in a communist country, but you are repeating Russian disinformation that’s designed to hurt America and Americans. People who agree with you are NOT being silenced — they’re being wildly signal-boosted by Russian disinformation operatives, and have persuaded you, and a bunch of other Americans, that it’s safer to LITERALLY RISK DEATH than to get a vaccine. Putin’s intelligence service can’t possibly have imagined that it would be this easy to damage the American economy, kill 700,000 Americans and cause long-term disability in many more, and drive deep political divisions into the American polity. But here we are, with people willingly parroting Russian talking points and rejecting well-understood medical science that the American people wholeheartedly embraced until quite recently.
(I have been helping parents’ Facebook groups in my area root out Russian troll-farm accounts — there are legions of them, some of them that were allowed to quietly age for 10 years. At my workplace we deal with slightly different types of disinformation attacks, but a lot of the modus operandi are the same across types and platforms.)

The Russian government sponsored bots are being joined by the Iranian and Chinese government sponsored bots to focus on keeping us in pandemic hell for as long as possible. It’s time to cut them off Facebook/Twitter so they can’t misinform the conversation. I’ve heard the volume of bots is the vast majority of the social media anti vax/mask sewage.
