* Press release…

The People Who Play By The Rules PAC has launched a new series, “K-12 Parents Speak” featuring parents whose children were severely affected by JB Pritzker’s extreme lockdowns and school closure policies during COVID. An ad buy was placed in statewide media markets and the series is available on the PBR PAC Facebook page.

Parents are making their voices heard loud and clear: They’re our kids, not JB Pritzkers. These are their stories.

First up is Anastasia Andrews, a parent and resident of Barrington, IL:

Script:
Anastasia Andrews, Resident / Parent:
“The decisions that Governor Pritzker has made for our state have not been to further our children’s future. The governor mandated school closures for such a long time, and when he did finally open the schools he mandated masks and had this overreaching authority…They’re realizing that the schools’ test scores are down, year over year, nationally, and the entire system was broken.

How much worse does it have to get? Illinois has got to change. Right now.”

Anastasia Andrews, Resident / Parent, Barrington, IL:
“The governor-mandated school shut down in Illinois during COVID severely affected my children. The blank stares…It was horrifying to watch, and then now of course we have a mental health crisis on our hands.

How much worse does it have to get?”

* Embeds…

These people play by only one rule; whatever I want I should get regardless of the impact on others

  2. - NotRich - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:02 pm:

Proft churning out garbage ads .. trying to catch up to Mike Z money

  3. - Jocko - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:04 pm:

    ==COVID severely affected my children.==

How? Did you supplement their online learning…or were you too busy ranting to your friends about masks on Facebook.

  4. - Rudy’s teeth - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:05 pm:

These folks should be more concerned about the shortage of teachers in Illinois and across the US. When their children are at home learning on Zoom because there is no one in the classroom or the class size is 45- 60 because there are no substitutes, then be concerned.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:06 pm:

    It’s a D

Again, note, a D is a passing grade.

The angry, white, “aggrieved” mom seemingly careless to the thought of others… ignoring that Pritzker won in court… consistently… this ad is for you.

Pandemics to them… are a hindrance. One in 332 in the country died, but they were put out.

    It’s a D

  6. - sax - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:10 pm:

LOL these ads help Pritzker. More people supported his pandemic response than fought it. Look at literally every poll on it. Don’t know that I’d be reminding the public about his “strong leadership in tough times” tagline. But you do you, Proft.

  7. - The Real Captain - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:20 pm:

Production quality is a D but I think these ads are being underestimated. While JB is doing his victory lap his voters are becoming less motivated to vote. These ads motivate the Bailey and goofball base.

  8. - vern - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:27 pm:

    F. There’s no way polling is telling them this is their best message, so it’s most likely just donor service. If this is their plan through November, it might actually lose Bailey more votes than it gains them.

  9. - Larry Bowa Jr. - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:32 pm:

If I was on the fence about voting for Pritzker, commercials featuring ignorant, selfish disease vectors the likes of which screamed witless invective at me at every school board meeting for the last 2 years are a good way to remind me what’s at stake.

  10. - New Day - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:37 pm:

Repeat after me. The majority of the public think JB did a great job on Covid. This strategy is weird - Proft is preaching to the choir.

    D-

  11. - 48th Ward Heel - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:38 pm:

Why on Earth would you admit something you’re trying to hit the Governor on is part of a national trend? F minus

  12. - TheInvisibleMan - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:43 pm:

For me personally, it’s an ‘F’. But I’m not the target audience.

I just can’t help but notice it is always the “we won’t co-parent with the government’ types who are complaining about their kids who suddenly show all these problems when what they see as the government is taken away.

Do they ever listen to themselves?

There are of course the exceptions with SEP-type situations, but those generally aren’t the people making these statements.

  13. - Siualum - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:49 pm:

There’s no doubt working parents with children in school did face some challenges, however let’s look at the big picture and not be so selfish. Pritzker was trying to save lives for God’s sake.

  14. - JS Mill - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:50 pm:

The ad is a gentleman’s D. It appeals to the base, but in no way makes progress toward adding votes.

In my experience, the parents who made a big deal of remote were the ones whose kids reacted the worst. I do not know a single family that isolated with fidelity. Kids and families mixed and socialized. I will qualify that with the fact that I am in rural Illinois, I am sure that some people certainly did isolate, just none around here. Not a hard data point, just anecdotal.

The kids reflect the parents, if you were hair on fire over masks, you kids were likely to be that way too.

  15. - northsider (the original) - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 5:54 pm:

Same lady who testified she didn’t want a new firehouse to be built near her kid’s preschool because it would be too “disruptive” to the class. I guess Barrington preschools must be very scholarly or something.

  16. - Pundent - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 6:08 pm:

The ad is a D. I understand that Proft interests begin and end when the checks clear, but the messaging is truly awful. The objective her is to expand the base not narrow it. It’s as if he’s purposely focusing on issues that appeal to the minority of voters. I know, it’s a feature not a bug.

  17. - MoralMinority - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 6:11 pm:

    F. Parent behaving like kindergartner throwing a fit when they don’t get their way.

  18. - MoralMinority - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 6:18 pm:

Another thought: It is wonder that kids survive summer vacation. Somebody should look into it. It must be some form of child abuse.

  19. - jimbo - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 6:57 pm:

I suppose not everyone checks who these people that give testimonials are but this is the second this week that is questionable. First was the guy who was with Turning Point, and this woman is on the board of the Barrington GOP- although for some reason she used maiden name in the ad

  20. - Jimbo - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 7:11 pm:

Here is this person and look who she works for https://www.linkedin.com/in/anastasia-andrews-34613716/

  21. - Telly - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 8:18 pm:

I actually think this is a big improvement over the last Proft ad we rated, which appealed to angry white dudes who are already voting for Bailey (like Dick Uihlien.)

This is at least targeting a persuadable audience that JB has some challenges with — suburban women who thought their kids were kept out of school too long. I give it a B.

  22. - TommyT - Thursday, Aug 11, 22 @ 9:53 pm:

Wait, if “school test scores are down nationally”, are you complaining about life during Covid? cause that’s what this sounds like. Illinois bumbled and fumbled through it as well as any other state. I don’t hear anyone say, “Wish we coulda been Ohio or Indiana, they did SO much better”.

  23. - Narc - Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 7:13 am:

Meanwhile, the children that had to say goodbye to their parents and grandparents over Facetime before they suffocated to death I’m sure have no mental health issues at all.

    These maskholes are absolute ghouls.

  24. - Skokie Man - Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 12:36 pm:

So Proft and Uihlein decided that using the fella from Turning Point USA’s board in their first ad wasn’t enough… now they’re trotting out a “resident” who happens to be the Corporate Affairs & Communications Director for Freedom Square and a board member of the Barrington Township Republican Organization. Ms. Andrews also goes by Anastasia Simoncelli. Here’s a link listing her on the board of the BTRO and a link to a photo of her at one of their events in June wearing the same outfit she wears in the commercial:

    https://barringtongop.com/board/

    https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=328249976159323&set=pcb.328251522825835

How many commercials in a row will Proft and Uihlein bankroll where they have to use people on the GOP bankroll to pretend to be “business owners” or “residents” rather than paid shills? This is two… I put the over/under at 5.
