Rate the new Budzinski broadcast TV ad

Wednesday, Oct 5, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Tuesday press release that I somehow missed in my in-box yesterday…

Today, the Nikki Budzinski for Congress campaign is launching its second broadcast television ad of the general election. The ad, called “Walk the Walk”, is delivered by former Macon County Sheriff Tony Brown, and focuses on law enforcement’s support of Budzinski. The Illinois Police Benevolent and Protective Association endorsed Nikki earlier this summer.

Budzinski was the first candidate to begin paid advertising in IL13. “Walk the Walk” will run on broadcast in the St. Louis, and Springfield, Decatur, Champaign media markets.

* The spot

* Script

Sheriff Brown: A lot of politicians talk the talk about supporting firefighters and police.

Nikki Budzinski walks the walk.

At the firefighter’s union she worked her tail off to get firefighters the pay, training and respect they deserve.

Nikki’s endorsed by police because she is a strong voice for law enforcement.

And she’ll strongly oppose anyone who wants to defund police.

Nikki Budzinski’s got our back – and we’ve got hers.

…Adding… Politico

Thursday at 7 p.m.: An IL-13 debate between Republican Regan Deering and Democrat Nikki Budzinski. Sponsored by Illinois Public Media, WAND News and the League of Women Voters of Champaign County. The debate will be broadcast live on WILL-TV, WILL-AM 580, WILL-FM 90.9, WSIU-TV, WSUI-FM out of Carbondale, the 9 Network, KSDK (online only), STLPR NPR out of St. Louis, WAND out of Decatur and NPR Illinois out of Springfield. It will also stream on Illinois Public Media’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

    That’s an A. Good production, simple, direct message. Very effective to my eye.

    A. Great ad. I want to vote for Tony Brown.

    I’m confused, are active-duty police allowed to be in political ads? Or is it okay because the sheriff is wearing a polo instead of a uniform?

    Sheriffs can pretty much do whatever they want. Also, he’s no longer a sheriff.

    @Curious Citizen:

    https://www.wmay.com/2022/04/21/exemption-allows-sheriff-to-appear-in-uniform-in-davis-campaign-ad/

    4/21/22

    A new campaign ad for Congressman Rodney Davis features Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell in uniform… but officials say that’s permitted, even though it wouldn’t be for other law enforcement officers.

    Police are generally prohibited from appearing in uniform in support of political candidates. But as an elected official, Campbell falls under an exemption to the federal Hatch Act, allowing him to appear in uniform for political purposes.

    In the ad, Davis is shown talking with Campbell as he discusses his support for additional funding for law enforcement.

    Thanks for the clarification. I give it a B because I don’t think it’s enough to sway anyone hesitant to vote for a Dem on law and order.

    I give the ad a solid A. Nikki gets an Aplus for her campaign and her outstanding character, energy and principles!

    Budzinski is attempting to appear rooted in the community. This impression registers subconsciously while she appears to run to Deering’s right on law enforcement (I know, I know).

    You soon forget that she hasn’t lived in Peoria since she was four. And not in the current district until last year.

  9. - Close Observer - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 10:52 am:

    Good ad but don’t have flashing police lights running throughout the entire thing.

  10. - Back to the Future - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 11:28 am:

    Grade- - B.
    Keeps your attention. The speaker seems sincere.

  11. - Give Us Barabbas - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 12:26 pm:

    B. Better than the terribly vague “ice cream” introduction ad she’s been running, but still short on specifics. Endorsed by cops and firemen is all it says.

    “Better than the terribly vague “ice cream” introduction ad she’s been running…”

    I can personally attest the ice cream reference was good…for Dairy Queen.

    A.

    It’s a great line - “Nikki will strongly oppose anyone who wants to defund the police.’

    Democrats need to drill this message home more. The defund the police movement was militarized against Democrats and they never had an answer. Start with simple straight forward ads like this one.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 5, 22 @ 3:33 pm:

    The ad is one of those rare ads that capture not only the audience in a perfect framing, it allows the viewer of the ad to see compassion and character too.

    It’s an A-

    This is in that rare “A” air.
