Lunchtime roundup

* Congrats…

* Floor action…

* Politico

On the Illinois GOP’s divisions between conservative and moderate views, Bailey said he wishes the party would unite around conservatism — even in wake of losses in the midterms that favored moderates. He acknowledges, however, that the party needs to find a unified message on certain issues, including abortion.

The party already has a unified message on abortion and that uniformity has cost it dearly.

* What apparently passes for an oppo dump at Illinois Review

Here in Illinois, Dot Foods, Inc. – a family-owned company that employs more than 6,000 people in the US and Canada – is the nation’s largest distributor of food and related products. Headquartered in Mt. Sterling, IL, the company is owned by twelve siblings, including IL GOP chairman Don Tracy.

Tracy is very proud of the family business, where he is an owner. He brings it up frequently in speeches and it’s even on his bio on the IL GOP website under the section, “Meet Our Chairman.” […]

In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, owners made a $6,193 donation to Joe Biden.

By contrast, in 2018, owners made a $250 donation to President Donald Trump.

And in 2022, owners made a $3,900 donation to US Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R.; a $4,900 donation to US Rep. Rodney Davis, R.; and a $51,000 donation to the Republican Party of Illinois. […]

In 2020, US Rep. Rodney Davis was one of 35 House Republicans to support the January 6th Commission to investigate the attack on the US Capitol – a move that angered Trump.

More from IR

Several names have surfaced in the last week as potential candidates to replace Tracy, including state central committee member for the 8th District, Dean White; state central committee member for the 15th District, State Sen. Jason Plummer, 54th District; Will County grassroots activist and founder of Illinois Patriots group Christina Clausen; former US Senate candidate Peggy Hubbard; and businessman and former candidate for governor Gary Rabine.

Peggy Hubbard? The person who claimed, with zero actual evidence, a massive conspiracy to steal the Republican primary from her? Who the heck is floating that name?

…Adding… Tribune last year

In the last election cycle, federal campaign disclosure reports show Tracy gave more than $400,000 to various Republican candidates and causes including $93,300 to Trump Victory, the joint fundraising committee for Trump’s reelection, the Republican National Committee and 11 state GOP organizations. He also gave another $2,800 to the president’s personal reelection fund, $92,200 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee and $100,000 to the victory committee established by Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell.

Tracy has donated more than $400,000 to state candidates and causes since 1999, campaign finance records show, primarily to himself and his sister-in-law, but also to local GOP causes and candidates in Springfield. He also gave $25,000 to the successful effort to defeat Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s effort to have voters approve a graduated-rate income tax amendment to the state constitution on Nov. 3.

Tracy also has given more than $10,000 over the years to Family PAC, a socially conservative group that has fought abortion and gay rights in Springfield, state records show. Tracy has long opposed abortion rights and has touted his support of gun-owner rights.

* Chicago mayoral candidate Brandon Johnson reported a $350,000 contribution today from the Chicago Teachers Union. Johnson has reported raising $791,100 since he filed paperwork to run for mayor last month.

Speaking of the mayor’s race…

* Today in DuPage…

* And lastly…

    The good news for Brandon Johnson is that there is a ton of Let’s go Brandon signs and merchandise already available.

  2. - TheInvisibleMan - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 12:27 pm:

    –unite around conservatism — even in wake of losses–

    This guy has such great ideas. Everyone in the ILGOP should listen to him. They did nominate him to be their defacto leader after all.

    And Illinois Review will always remind me of that even today completely off the wall opinion article they published from a woman who I believe was one of the owners/publishers. It was my first ever exposure to that ‘publication’, and I honestly thought it was a satire site. Until I realized it was unfortunately very real.

  3. - Blue Dog - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 12:29 pm:

    Real conservatives wouldn’t have taken ppp money and farm subsidies. only hypocrites and freeloaders do that.

  4. - The Way I See It - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 12:30 pm:

    Congrats to Deb Conroy. If the GOP wants to measure how far things have slid away from them in the burbs, there is a picture that says 10,000 words.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 12:33 pm:

    Dear Bailey, Hubbard, et al.,

    Who you are and what you think you are… two different things, and the voters told you not only who you are, but they don’t want you.

    What you may think is “good conservative” is seen by voters as… anti-choice, anti-SSM, pro-gun / anti-gun control… and still a danger to women’s health.

    Not one choice, floated, “mocked”, considered, is a choice that will change how the party is seen… an out of touch, angry, white rural party that sees women as unable to make choices about their bodies.

    I don’t identify with the party as they continue to misunderstand why they are so toxic to Illinois voters… and a toxic goo to myself.

    Every day they are further away from relevancy… this “fight” is another example of a group of minority dangerous thinkers thinking they know what will make majority voters embrace them.

    I can’t help y’all.

  6. - Sir Reel - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 12:41 pm:

    So Bailey’s idea of how to work out divisions within his party is for moderates to cave, his way or the highway. Would’ve made a great Governor.

  7. - Rudy’s teeth - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:00 pm:

    Darren Bailey, it’s time to step away from a microphone. Bailey was never a serious candidate in the governor’s race. When Bailey castigates Chicago as a hellhole and labels Chicago an unruly child, who would think he is remotely qualified for public office. A serious candidate would never denigrate part of the state for which he hopes to govern.

    Might be that Bailey fell off the tractor one too many times.

  8. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:05 pm:

    OK, I gotta admit, that was pretty funny LP.

  9. - ChrisB - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:14 pm:

    Nothing screams “We Learned Our Lesson After Getting Historically Crushed In The Last Election” like that list of potential GOP Chairs.

    Keep tilting at windmills, ILGOP.

  10. - Back to the Future - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:30 pm:

    Agree with 47th Ward- LP got a chuckle out of me too.

  11. - Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:36 pm:

    Deb Conroy won by 8,835 votes out of 343,734 votes cast

    8,433 of these who voted chose neither candidate for County Board President

    In 2018 Dan Cronin won by 7,314 votes out of 358,850 votes cast

    Total 2018 turnout was 369,940- 26,206 higher than 2022

    No doubt Bailey at the top of the ticket depressed Republican turnout

    Mission accomplished

  12. - Chicago Republican - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:37 pm:

    What I am hearing is that Illinois Republicans need to become Oklahoma Democrats in philosophy if they want to have a chance.

  13. - A History Lesson - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:41 pm:

    The secluded 3rd floor office of the 421 JTK Administrative building used to adorn the name Chairman Daniel J. Cronin for the last 12 years, and before that Robert J. Schillerstrom for another 12. Today, grounds crew affixed the name Deborah A. Conroy in its place. Next week, Conroy will take charge of County administration and will be accompanied by a Democratic board majority. Once unthinkable, the DuPage County Board has had a Democratic majority ever since the 2020 election… which hasn’t happened since the 1930’s back before the 1970 IL Constitution, when the County board was officially named the DuPage Board of Supervisors.New Deal politics and FDR’s Democrats ushered in Democrats throughout the nation, including DuPage County, which had split from Cook County 100 years prior.

    What will come of this? I don’t know. But i’ll be watching… and hoping… for success.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:43 pm:

    ===No doubt Bailey at the top of the ticket depressed Republican turnout

    Mission accomplished===

    56% of the voting GOP wanted Bailey.

    Keep up. Bailey *is* the ILGOP

    ===What I am hearing===

    (Sigh)

    No. What you’re hearing is the ILGOP is wholly unacceptable to the voting public’s majority voters in areas where the GOP use to be competitive.

    Hearing anything else is ignorance to what the voters said at the ballot box

    It’s like this idea that abortion wasn’t “a big deal” and forgetting GOP candidates never embraced the overturn of Roe and the plurality of younger women choosing Dems.

  15. - A History Lesson - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:45 pm:

    In response to “Lucky Pierre” —

    Good analysis. Question: did you know the french explorer who discovered DuPage County was named Pierre Page? A lovely tidbit I learned from the DuPage Historical Museum in Wheaton.

  16. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:55 pm:

    ===Good analysis===

    Huh?

    ===No doubt Bailey at the top of the ticket depressed Republican turnout===

    You can’t first say

    ===Deb Conroy won by 8,835 votes out of 343,734 votes cast

    8,433 of these who voted chose neither candidate for County Board President===

    … then assume any other voters not dragged out by GOTV would’ve magically voted GOP

    This is like a candidate “looking for” 11,000 or so votes in Georgia kind of analysis that any and all voters were GOP voters suppressed

    DuPage is far more Blue now thanks to Bailey, not because the GOP voters hid because of Bailey.

    It’s wishful thinking.

    As a Bailey supporter you should know that - LP -

  17. - Game - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:58 pm:

    DuPage Republicans spent 1.7 million, 2 to one against Conroy. Money does not win every race.

  18. - Chicagonk - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:02 pm:

    OW - You are right that Bailey is the ILGOP. We are a one party state for the foreseeable future.

  19. - TheInvisibleMan - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:16 pm:

    –In 2020, US Rep. Rodney Davis was one of 35 House Republicans to support the January 6th Commission–

    I didn’t think Davis had such foresight, much less to the degree of being psychic about an event which wouldn’t even happen until 2021.

    Good ol’ IR. Always sticklers for details, like historical dates.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:34 pm:

    - TheInvisibleMan -

    Rodney refused to impeach Trump too

    How did that work for Rodney?

    #FullCultOrOut

  21. - ArchPundit - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 3:14 pm:

    ===OK, I gotta admit, that was pretty funny LP.

    Ditto.

    Also, how has OW not mentioned Plummer 20 comments in?

  22. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 3:41 pm:

    ===not mentioned Plummer 20 comments in?===

    The clowning by these others to be in the conversation to lead a de facto cult of a party where Bailey thinks it’s not pure enough…

    … makes *even* Plummer… height and size notwithstanding… small.

    That’s how far cratered the ILGOP is, and will be for a considerable time.

    All that… and I may want Dodgers tickets sometime, so there’s that too.

    If Plummer would like to be vocally loud about these… “things”… I’m quite sure it won’t get past me.

  23. - H-W - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 4:00 pm:

    = The good news for Brandon Johnson is that there is a ton of Let’s go Brandon signs and merchandise already available. =

    LP for the win.

    === = The good news for Brandon Johnson is that there is a ton of Let’s go Brandon signs and merchandise already available. =

    LP for the win===

    Truthfully, - LP - won the day.

    I laughed.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 4:28 pm:

    (Sigh)

    Ok. “Jason Plummer”…

    “I’d like to lead the party. You may not believe this, but as a kid I didn’t go to many parties. Dad said folks were jealous of me and stuff. It’s tough being a prodigy”

    :)

  26. - Loop Lady - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 4:45 pm:

    Deb Conroy earned the vote and the confidence of constituents in DPC.

    Do not take that away from her.

    The last election boosted many women who have been in the trenches and paid their dues.

    Well done!

  27. - Amalia - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 5:11 pm:

    Deb Conroy, such a great win.

  28. - West Side the Best Side - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 6:02 pm:

    Okay, can we get to the bottom of this? Had someone hijacked LP’s name or has there been an early Christmas miracle and LP is now doing comedy?
