  1. - John Lopez - Tuesday, Jan 17, 23 @ 8:40 am:

If state Rep Robyn Gabel were a few years younger (she turns 70 next month), she’d be a clear successor to Jan Schakowsky when she calls it a career in Congress.

I’m sure there are plenty others waiting in the wings.

–warning of a potential steep decline in transportation revenue as the process of electrification accelerates.–

It’s been simmering on the back burner for a few years now, but this is the launchpad for the next ‘outrage conspiracy cycle’, as the obvious solution is mileage-based taxation.

Of course the current system is also mileage-based, but with the extra variable of your choice in vehicle efficiency determining the tax you pay per mile.

I can’t say I’m looking forward to the inevitable backlash from the usual suspects. Mostly because it’s just so predictable.

=== Rep. Blaine Wilhour on Gov. Pritzker’s gun ban: ‘We are in danger of losing our country if we don’t stand up’===

Tell me you support insurrections, not just insurrectionists.

Republicans are dangerous to families and children, and if they don’t get their way, Republicans are already dangerous to democracy, they want to remind us… every single day.

=Rep. Blaine Wilhour on Gov. Pritzker’s gun ban: ‘We are in danger of losing our country if we don’t stand up’:=

This hyperbole along with “take back our…” has really gotten old.

Listen Blaaaaine (think Pretty in Pink), you are in the minority in Illinois. Lots of people, some even gop members, want some controls on guns.

    Nobody took Illinois or America.

=== Paul Vallas, Ja’Mal Green and 6th Ward Ald. Roderick Sawyer — quipped that the city should just let its NFL team go. Green elaborated that the next mayor should focus on revitalizing Soldier Field by “maybe a couple of $100 million” so it can be leased for college sports or to another NFL team.===

The NFL, along with the Bears’ veto, will prevent any other franchise to share this market.

To say such… drivel… is one who is out of touch and lacks understanding of all things NFL and no clue to why the Bears and this market is critical to the NFL as “unshared”

The Bears will be *in* this market, in Arlington Heights, and it reminds this whole market… the Bears can’t leave, don’t wanna leave, and the Bears now by owning property in Arlington Heights are going to dictate how this all goes.

They could start by getting rid of that spaceship on top of the building courtesy of the 2002 “renovations.”

  7. - ChicagoVinny - Tuesday, Jan 17, 23 @ 9:01 am:

Rep Wilhour’s comments are dangerous and irresponsible in this environment. Just yesterday a failed GOP state rep candidate was arrested for allegedly paying 4 others to shoot guns at elected officials’ homes.

    The party of insurrection.

  8. - JoanP - Tuesday, Jan 17, 23 @ 10:22 am:

I appreciate the Trib article about what the mayoral candidates think about the Bears/Soldier Field. Knowing who is willing to spend taxpayer money on behalf of billionaires is narrowing my choices. And I would just point out to Sophia King that money from the State comes out of Chicago taxpayers’ pockets.

  9. - From DaZoo - Tuesday, Jan 17, 23 @ 1:17 pm:

I was so frustrated when legislation was introduced in 2019 to kickoff a pilot VMT program in IL with no advanced public discussion (that I’m aware of). The negative backlash was predictable. Hopefully the article and some discussions will start the groundwork needed to advance this concept.

  10. - Anyone Remember - Tuesday, Jan 17, 23 @ 1:32 pm:

Digital driver’s license. Will that meet the requirements of REAL ID? Will they be accepted by TSA at airports?
