* Illinois Review spreading anti-vaxxer nonsense

And people have been coming forward in droves, talking openly about the negative effects of taking the COVID vaccine – including airline pilots, doctors, nurses and Illinois’ very own Ryan Cunningham, who wrote on his Twitter,

“I got the COVID vaccine before most could as healthcare provider and emergency manager implementing many of the policies of the “covidians.” Days after I was transported to the hospital with cardiac issue. Today I’m in heart failure.”

That would be this Ryan Cunningham…

* Cunningham was Tom DeVore’s campaign manager…

The two have remained close…

Re: the Cunningham tweet, with apologies to Kevin Costner.

    “Back…and to the (far) right.”

  2. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:23 am:

It should be noted, correctly so, that the ILGOP embraces these thinkers, welcomes these thinkers, they *are* the recognized base that needs appeasing.

They are not the outlier, even being “small” in collective thinking, but are the majority “think” in the ILGOP, let alone condemning a single one of them.

  3. - Jerry - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:24 am:

covidians? Aren’t you the clever one.

  4. - Anon E Moose - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:25 am:

Ear buds in while driving. Great idea.

  5. - Steve Rogers - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:26 am:

It wasn’t the COVID vaccine that caused Cunningham’s heart failure.

It’s the gallons and gallons and gallons of kool-aid

  6. - TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:27 am:

    “I’m just asking questions”

Is actually a response of his in that tweet thread.

  7. - Give Me A Break - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:27 am:

This is the GOP base. They are who they are.

  8. - Appears - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:27 am:

A QOTD could be who needs more attention DeVore or Bailey

  9. - New Day - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:31 am:

Oh, puhlease. With respect, I highly doubt that he’s in heart failure because of the vaccine. I know hundreds of people who’ve had the shot. CapFax readers know tens of thousands of people who have the shots. The Feds have tracked hundreds of millions of people who have the shots. Other than an occasional allergic reaction, the vaccines are safe and effective in preventing death and serious illness. The move by Devore, Marjorie Taylor Green and others on the right is shameful and will get people killed. Already studies have shown that GOPers are far more likely to die from Covid. This is dumb and preventable.

  10. - The Truth - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:36 am:

Liars and grifters, no sense in dancing around it.

  11. - Pundent - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:36 am:

Why would anyone believe anything Tom Devore or his associates say on health related matters? If you have concerns regarding the vax talk to your doctor not a grifter who sells lawsuit tickets.

  12. - Osborne Smith III - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:40 am:

Cunningham also appears to be supporting the conspiracy theory that Damar Hamlin died on the field in Cincinnati, and that his appearances in public recently have been by a body double.

  13. - New Day - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:43 am:

Ok, I just read his thread on his condition. I want to be clear. I am not doubting that he has a condition. But there are huge holes in his story including zero report of what his doctors have told him. His assertions alone are not evidence.

Can vaccines have adverse effects? Of course they can. Most vaccines do. But it’s not a close call and the GOP is killing their own people with their idiocy.

  14. - walker - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:48 am:

Best wishes to Mr Cunningham with his health issues.

It has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt, by hundreds of studies involving millions of doses, that it is safer in almost all cases, (including specifically with heart issues) to take the vaccine than to refuse it.

I have often thought about how many have been lost in our society due to the false information spread by politicians like these.

  15. - Big Dipper - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:55 am:

I would have heart failure too if I ran Devore’s campaign.

  16. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:56 am:

when the covid conspiracy spills over into person replacement with the Buffalo player, you just know that these folks are out there.

  17. - OneMan - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:56 am:

I can’t ponder living in a world where you think many things are part of some big conspiracy. To think that there are large and well-organized groups whose focus is to mislead you about all sorts of different things, with some sort of vague goal.

I feel genuinely sorry for these people. How sad their lives must be to think these things. To go through life that way.

  18. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:58 am:

Many COVID deaths and hospitalizations can be prevented by vaccines. DeVore and other anti-vax leaders have a lot of death and suffering on their hands.

  19. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:59 am:

Good thing no one died suddenly of previously undetected health conditions before COVID. /s

  20. - wndycty - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 11:59 am:

He claims to be in the early stages of heart failure, no reason to doubt that. He also claims it was due to the vaccine, plenty of reasons to doubt that. And it appears he is fundraising off of that:

  21. - P - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:00 pm:

There seems to be a variety of these people becoming Twitter famous lately that say the most ridiculous things imaginable all day long, day after day. This guy and Nick Adams come to mind in the last few weeks. Complete rubbish.

  22. - Streator Curmudgeon - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:01 pm:

The absurdity of believing Tucker Carlson instead of Anthony Fauci on Covid has always flabbergasted me.

DeVore and his pals truly are living in an alternative reality.

  23. - Manchester - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:02 pm:

It’s been said that you can’t fix stupid. I offer as evidence Thing 1 and Thing 2. My apologies to Dr. Seuss.

  24. - Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:03 pm:

Quite a picture of 42S with his very long tie. Is the bracelet DeVore’s fashion statement?

  25. - Pundent - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:05 pm:

=To think that there are large and well-organized groups whose focus is to mislead you about all sorts of different things, with some sort of vague goal.=

The goal is not vague at all. It pays well.

  26. - H-W - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:17 pm:

I have to wonder how Cunningham defines “heart failure.” It would appear that he defines it as something other than actual heart failure, which is a permanent, debilitating condition that worsens over time, and causes death.

Perhaps he just had an anxiety attack. Perhaps he had that exceedingly rare inflammation issue that is associated with the vaccine among boys. But to state that he had heart failure and that it was caused by the vaccine is a pretty suspect statement.

  27. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:32 pm:

People who are against the vaccine for political purposes will find any excuse or use any negative exception to the rule to push deadly propaganda. It’s one thing if a person refuses to take the vaccine for fear of health complications, another to push the anti-vax views as public policy, from a position of power and influence.

  28. - Yiddishcowboy - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:33 pm:

I really admire many commenters on this board for staying calm, cool and collected in comments. I’d be banned by now if I didn’t thoroughly enjoy reading (and commenting occasionally on) the posts on this blog. (Rich has created a great, truly unique blog…that fortunately isn’t Facebook-like. I’ve even learned quite a bit…and I’ve been around the block a time or two.)

That said, I just can’t hide or sugar coat it: I very strongly dislike people like Devore and his lap dogs whom I consider to be shameless liars, hypocrites and plain rotten-to-the-core extremists. The garbage they spew makes me so angry that I’m now at the point where I have to limit the articles I read. (I have sufficient chaos in my life as it is.)

And, to be balanced and honest, I’m not too fond of the far left. I guess I simply dislike any extremism, regardless of from where it comes.

Sorry all…I probably shared too many feelings, but, wow, I do feel better.

  29. - Former Downstater - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:35 pm:

If this were true, why doesn’t Devore sue on this behalf? The man literally sues everyone.

  30. - Stormsw7706 - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:45 pm:

Following up on his conspiracies I hear that Bigfoot was spotted at the Staunton, IL Dairy Queen. He evaded capture all this time u til after receiving his COVID shot he became confused and developed a craving for a blizzard. Go get ‘em Tommy

  31. - Stuck in Celliniland - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:53 pm:

I have my own conspiracy theory for why Springfield gas prices are some of the highest around. Because at least one Qik-n-EZ location didn’t match their weekly sales goal for at least one of the following items: booze, tobacco, CBD, lottery, and video gaming revenues. Hence they take it out on the gas prices.

  32. - Give Me A Break - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 12:58 pm:

I’ve seen the same people spouting the same things. Almost like they below to a club where the membership requires you to believe:

    JFK Jr is alive
    COIVD vaccines are bad
    Trump is still the President
Hamlin is dead, the NFL is using a body double
Biden has a stand in for public events
    Trump won the election
Cat Litter boxes are in schools
Drag Shows are kidnapping kids and making them watch
QAnon speaks the truth that will soon be reveled

Honestly, how much stupidity can people believe and why does it seem to reside in one political party?

  33. - Appears - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 1:13 pm:

In honor of the conspiracy theme, how does Mr. Cunningham know he is exactly Mr. Cunningham and not some doppelganger?
To determine if Mr. DeVore is real, just follow the money and the losses.
Come to think of it, how do we know DeVore doesn’t run the Chicago Bears. Think about it. Both make lots of money and lose all the time.

  34. - West Side the Best Side - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 1:22 pm:

Keep your eyes on the road, you stunad (banned punctuation)

  35. - Ducky LaMoore - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 2:54 pm:

When I was a kid, I got all my vaccines. Then I had to have my tonsils out. Obviously one is directly tied to the other. /s

  36. - Joe Bidenopolous - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 3:22 pm:

=Cunningham also appears to be supporting the conspiracy theory that Damar Hamlin died on the field in Cincinnati=

How many people would have to be in on that conspiracy for it to be true? ROFL

  37. - cover - Wednesday, Jan 25, 23 @ 6:15 pm:

= I’ve seen the same people spouting the same things. Almost like they below to a club where the membership requires you to believe: [long list] =

Makes you wonder if they will add that Christmas is run by a big eastern syndicate? /s
