Should feel happy, should feel glad.
I’m alive and it can’t be bad,
But back on planet Earth they shatter the illusion,
The world’s going ’round in a state of confusion.
I am 100 percent behind this. If the entire state secedes from Cook County, I’m guessing my taxes will go way down. I also noticed something about the people in the photo - did anybody else?

Escape from the unelected elites enforcing arbitrary woke spelling rules. Also, find out the hard way which counties get more from the state than they pay in taxes.
From their 1900’s looking website: “This is the same way that West Virginia split from Virginia.”
Well except the folks in West Virginia wanted a split because they opposed slavery and didn’t want to follow the slave owners of Virginia in abandoning the United States of America. Needless to say there was substantial support in the Union for carving out a new state that would stay in the Union. So there’s that little difference.
I love how I know immediately which side of the aisle these people come from, based on their use of AI slop and the inability to do any basic editing of their slop material.
Ah, got the website to work.
Urgh, lots of AI crud. And besides FB, accounts on far-right promoting social media places. Merch. And yeah, the promoter picture is…what I expected.
The idea that -all other 101 counties of Illinois- would join in this is pretty ridiculous. Especially any county that has higher education or larger cities in it.
The sections of the FAQ about immigration, guns and alt-right, to me, give a one word answer and then contradict that with the rest of the answer.
==What will be the name of the new state?
Several names have been suggested—for example, Southern Illinois, The State of Lincoln, Winnebago, Reagan, etc.==
Urk. WHy would we name a state -Reagan-?
BE - Reagan was born in Illinois, only reason I could think of. Plus, just like Reagan’s plans and actions, this idea would just make everyone poorer and worse off. (Except for the one or two millionaires who actually live downstate.)
I do think we should do a dry run of this. Have every county vote for a trail program where none of their tax money goes to Cook or the collar counties, but in exchange, none of their tax money comes back this way.
See how long people keep hating on Chicago when they lose almost all of their state funding. (I know they still will. These are the same people who think Chicago is the most dangerous city in the country when it’s not even the most dangerous in the state…)
Also, I agree with those saying this is (self) satire. Along that line I was thinking that the famed Landover Baptist Church would be interested in moving to the new state, they’re a match made in, well, Heaven! https://landoverbaptist.org/
The embarrassing AI Generated Logo aside…and that certainly is ridiculous….this mockery of rural people continues to drive the wedge and exaggerate the urban-rural divide.
There is never a serious attempt to understand why rural Illinoisans feel “left behind” and unrepresented by their government. Even the term “down state” is passively dismissive.
It’s this sort of thing, combined with the demise of the Rural Democrat that gave rise to Donald Trump, not once, but twice.
As far as the people who always say, Rural Illinois needs Chicago money…I can promise you, if it meant not having to live under the rule of people that view us as “less than” we would happily forgo the tax money.
It’s mockery of inept people. Lots and lots of Downstaters live in small cities.

There’s no serious attempt of their own to understand their own feelings. The fact they don’t see that is one of the sources of the mockery.
Look, if this was a 10yr old saying they wanted to run away from home, I’d enage in a conversation.
For adults to be talking like this should be extremely embarrassing to the people saying it.
“It’s this sort of thing, combined with the demise of the Rural Democrat that gave rise to Donald Trump”
Ironically, you are correct. Just not in the way you think you are.
This underdeveloped sense of self is exactly what gave rise to TFG. Instead of taking responsibility for their own emotions, there is a constant stream of ‘others’ to blame for what’s taking place in their own minds.

I hate to break it to you buddy, but you have that backwards. Yeah, there’s always going to be some snobby urbanite who doesn’t respect how important agriculture is to Illinois, but that’s not most of them.
==forgo the tax money
Mmhmm. If you think your property taxes are high now, just wait till you are burdened with paying for 100% of K-12 and higher ed.
“Lots and lots of Downstaters live in small cities.”
Like me. I live in a town of less than 2000 people. My friends and I make fun of inept fellow hicks all the time. Now to the question at hand… “Boise is too noisy, stay in Illinoisi.”
I think we are overlooking the important questions raised by the bottom half of the seal. “Of the people. By the peole. For the people.”
Who are these “peole”? Why do they get the power to establish the rules for everyone else in the state of New Illinoisi? This sounds highly anti-democratic.
