#BREAKING The federal appeals court in Chicago has DENIED the request from former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan to stay out of prison while he appeals his conviction.
Among my non-capfax reading friends, the consensus has always been that MJM will never see a day behind bars. If current trends continue, I’m eager to see if October 13 will inspire among them a little more faith in the justice system.
Michael Madigan joins a long list of Illinois politicians sent to the joint. From Governors to Aldermen and State Senators, the list is extensive.
The ComEd folks charged with federal crimes add to the lineup. The players are gonna play yet the still end up in the can.
If there’s anything you should have taken away from the trials and the convictions or the way Madigan’s organization responded to protect a low life sexual harasser it is that they weren’t very organized about it.
I watched several days of the trial, and be assured, the oral and written arguments were made (in part) in anticipation of being heard by SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the US), because the arguments would be waived if not made at trial, in the post-conviction request for a new trial, and in the current appeal to the Seventh Circuit on the 25th floor of the Dirksen Building.
== it is that they weren’t very organized about it.==
Got that right. While they had some whip smart people, there also were plenty of mopes who were idiots who didnt want to work. They were protected by famous uncles or others. Then other staff had to pick up the slack.
I feel for Mike and his family. Had he only stepped aside when Lisa was ready to run for Governor, as many urged him to do, none of this would have happened.
MJM can appeal to the Supreme Court - it takes 4 Justices to accept an appeal. Up to 10,000 appeal requests are filed per year with the Court, of which 60 or so are granted.

He still has time to get on Dancing with the Stars and advocate for a pardon by saying wonderful things about Trump.

A man who ran an organized crime syndicate under the Dome of our Capitol is going to prison.
And the congregation exhausted - “Amen”.

I thought DOJ doesn’t care about white collar crime anymore.

===who ran an organized crime syndicate===
Try staying in the fact-based world. MJM was not convicted on the RICO charge. And that’s usually a super-easy conviction.

It was a tongue in cheek play on your advice to those new to Springfield to watch the Godfather to better understand the Madigan operation.

=denies Madigan=
MJM still has a tidy sum in his election committees -
As of 6/30/25 The “friends” account had $6,120,571.11
So unlike the rest of us legal fees are not a concern - so the appeals will keep coming .

Can he appeal this to the US Supreme Court like Snyder did?

Madigan certainly deserves a prison sentence but given his age 3 years seems more appropriate and would have been a sufficient messaging sentence

I’m guessing the 13th Ward won’t be doing Pct Cptn Rankings anymore.

That will not be easy to live with.
