At a luncheon event last week, House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch discussed how the uncertainty [out of Washington, DC] could force lawmakers back to Springfield this summer to make adjustments to the budget that goes into effect July 1.
“We’re going to pass the budget here in the next couple of weeks with the information we know. There’s a lot of things we don’t know,” the Hillside Democrat said. “The only thing we can do is be committed to a process that’s going to have everyone at the table and continue to say we’re not going to spend more than we’re bringing in.” […]
Welch, meanwhile, at the hotel event noted every budget “is its own preacher” and lawmakers “in many ways play the hand we’re dealt.”
“We’re going to pass balanced budgets,” he said. “And listen, when you’re in charge of a large group of tax-and-spend Democrats, that ain’t always easy.”
Discuss.

Was just thinking about how far he has come since his first run for state rep many moons ago.

Think they call that an admission against interest

Since DC GOPPIES cannot decide how/if they will screw states on Medicaid issues the Speaker is probably on the mark. Keep the schedule in pencil and buy trip insurance.

He called his caucus “a large group of tax-and-spend Democrats”? I try to avoid using republican talking points as a Democrat. It is even worse hearing it from a Democratic leader.

===I try to avoid using republican talking points===
It’s also not completely accurate. Lots of his members want more spending without having to pay for it or cut elsewhere. lol

A good place to start with the budget is to quit giving ALL non-citizens free healthcare. There would be savings of hundreds of millions right there just as a start.

== to quit giving ALL non-citizens free healthcare==
So you would rather they visit emergency departments when sick
or they just die? Which is it? You seem to think that if we cancel migrant health care the problem just disappears.

Common Sense,
Since when did ALL non-citizens get free healthcare provided by the State?
Anyone has to be low income. In addition to that, you either have to be a child, or older than 42. And the Governor has already proposed eliminating coverage or individuals aged 42-65.

–or they just die?–
The cruelty is the point.
