Doesn’t seem like its going well for MJM so far?

“Blakey says the trial testimony shows the “great lengths” ComEd went through to ensure passage of FEJA, “including the paying of bribes to Madigan through contracts to his associates.”
If ComEd committed crimes to pass feja, is that sufficient to argue for judicial nullification of it?
I’m not a fan of FEJA.

Nothing going Madigan’s way

Yeah. It’s bad for him. Really bad.

Can anyone remember this much talk before a sentencing. It’s like Blakey is auditioning for a talk radio show.

Got to be crushing for him to sit there and hear all this.

the judge is laying out his exact reasons for his decision to the appellate court justices so they can determine if he followed all the rules.
specific findings are key.

When Blago was sentenced local news was there live. Is there any live media covering this? This is as much or more consequential to illinois government as Blago was.

Streiker just made my point. Governors come and go. Madigan was there for decades pilfering the state for personal profit. Madigan worse than Blago.

Madigan had redeeming qualities. Blago had none. Blago was much, much worse.

“This case is really sad, because the defendant is a dedicated public servant, apart from the crimes proven in this case.”
Exactly my point.

Low level- Blago was a bafoon who allowed his cronies (Rezko and Kelly) misappropriate monies and benefits using his name- Madigan orchestrated his crimes like a maestro- Blago didn’t know what was being done in his name for much of his time in office

It is funny how Republicans stick up for Blago now that he went full MAGA.

Rod had the heart of a criminal, IMHO.
Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Jun 13, 25 @ 4:17 pm
Sue.
None of the crimes Rod was convicted of involved with Tony Rezko or Chris Kelly.
They were both out of his orbit by then. That was his voice on those tapes. Not Chris Kelly, who had passed away by then.
Comment by Juice Friday, Jun 13, 25 @ 4:26 pm
Actually Rich- Blago had no heart at all- he was put in a job he had no interest in doing- was lazy and had awful miscreants in his orbit
Comment by Sue Friday, Jun 13, 25 @ 4:27 pm
Madigan still has money to buy a quick plane trip to Mar-a-Lago.

I tell you what, in the southwest side I know a lot of people like MJM. But I can personally attest to examples where good qualified people were passed over for jobs because “the speaker” had other people in mind.
People will cry tears for an old man having to go to jail, but they’ll never think about the lives of those who took from throwing his political weight around. 7.5 years isn’t enough.
Comment by Southwest Side Friday, Jun 13, 25 @ 4:45 pm
Madigan ought to have retired much sooner. By sticking around so long and refusing to surrender his great power, he made things so much worse for himself. Many of the bad things happened occurred in the latter days of his legislative career.

Wonderful context that Harmon tanked the effort to pass an ethics bill as he couldn ‘t bury his 9.5 million campaign finance fine- nothing here changes - any wonder that all corruption cases are handled by the feds

Juice - the feds investigation of Blago started with the investigations of Kelly and Rezko and they worked their way up the food chain-the probable cause for the Blago wire taps came courtesy of Rezko/kelly- what the Governor was convicted of is irrelevant- Kelly and Rezko brought Blago down

Good that the judge laid out his thinking on the bases for calculating the sentence. The appellates will have a lot to consider.
I found some of conclusions and logic a stretch, but I’m no expert
Comment by Walker Friday, Jun 13, 25 @ 5:03 pm
Agree with Southwest Side… much of the harm he did was to people you would never hear of. And it was done coldly, with no caring for those hurt.
