I drove to Iroquois County yesterday to take my grandma out to dinner. On our way to the restaurant I saw something that cracked me up.
Ahead on the left, I could see a row of Democratic yard signs along the road in front of a house. A car was parked nearby, and a little old lady was uprooting the signs and stashing them in her car, one by one.
There she was, a thick-legged old woman furiously waddling back and forth as she dashed to and fro between her car and the row of signs.
This was in broad daylight, mind you.
I slowed down to get a better look. As I drove by, I could see she had a big smile on her face and that her husband, sitting behind the wheel, was clearly frightened and yelling at her - most likely telling her to hurry the heck up before somebody called the cops. I couldn’t help but laugh.
No moral here. Just a story.

Republican Campaign Signs Reported Burned, Painted With Swastikas
Monday, October 18, 2004, 8:22 a.m.
- CHICAGO — Swastikas were painted over Bush-Cheney campaign posters in the suburbs - and Bush-Cheney campaign signs were set on fire. Republican leaders say that’s what they’re hearing from their supporters - who say they are feeling intimidated.
WBBM Newsradio 780’s Steve Miller reports… LISTEN HERE
Republicans in suburban Cook, Lake and DuPage counties say it began several weeks ago - and Cook County Republican Party Chairman Gary Skoien says it’s time it stopped: the defacing of Bush-Cheney campaign signs in yards.
“Spray painted with nasty obscenities or swastikas… but it’s a pattern, and it’s frightening, to say the least.”
Skoien says the vandalism of Republican campaign signs has never been this bad.
Gayl Ferraro, the chairman of the Democratic Party in predominately republican DuPage County, says democrats have been complaining about vandalism against them for years.
“This isn’t something that’s new to campaigns, and I think it’s ridiculous myself. I wish everybody would just cool off a little bit and just leave it alone.”
The republicans say the defacing of Bush-Cheney posters - and reports of vandals burning those signs in front yards - amounts to a hate crime.

Defacing yard signs = Hate crimes
Disenfranchising minority voters = Campaign strategyI just don’t see how this makes sense.
But then again, I’m a Democrat.
