  3. Now THAT is a hell of an ad. Very well done. A+.

  4. And Quinn will want to talk about dogs. Edge to Brady.

  5. I heard a similar ad on the radio yesterday morning. This will be an effective message for him if he is able to saturate the market.

  6. It’s even better with the sound off - the true test of a good ad.

  7. Childish. Not as childish as those unplug-Blago’s hair dryer t-shirts, but childish.

I think the IL GOP’s brain trust is located in a pre-school somewhere.

At least Quinn shows up to work most of the time.

  8. I don’t know about that Rich. The whole thing has a very cartoon-y feel to it, but the image of the worried looking kid just doesn’t fit. Nonetheless, it’s a solid hit and a solid ad.

  9. Agree with dr. clean that the end sentence “Bill Brady Governor” is a little strange. Should have said “You have the chance in November to elect Bill Brady Governor”

Otherwise, a really excellent ad. Rarely does an opponent’s attack ad look so warm and sweet and un-attacky while getting the negative message across and the job done. A Santa Claus analogy and a smiling Quinn signing those checks for raises. Love it. Solid A.

  10. Kirk was a pretty mature looking 16 year old, dontcha think?

Comment by chuckT Friday, Jul 23, 10 @ 4:07 pm

  11. I don’t think it will help Brady. It says Quinn’s name over and over, so if you aren’t paying attention, it just increases awareness of Quinn’s name. And if you are paying attention, it doesn’t say a single word about what Brady will do differently. So I think this is a classic example of why negative campaigning usually flops.

  20. Dear Senator Brady:

You really need to PAY taxes before you can complain about government wasting your tax dollars.

I’m just saying. And I hope Mica does too.

  21. just because someone shows up to work doesn’t mean they get much done. Just look at how many “Present” votes Senator Obama made.

  22. You should blame us for Bill Brady not paying his taxes.

  23. It’s a good ad, but not as good as “Bill Brady reads stuff - stuff you can believe in.”

Comment by Name Withheld Friday, Jul 23, 10 @ 4:44 pm

  24. Good point. Should Brady really be complaining about spending when he hasn’t paid taxes and when he’s voted on bills to benefit himself?

Comment by too obvious Friday, Jul 23, 10 @ 5:01 pm

  25. oh my god I just watched that again. Could the font for Jason Plummer’s name at the end be any smaller?

  26. Too obvious:

Yes, it could not be on there at all.

  27. Brady had better start pointing out that he paid over $300,000 in taxes in the last 5 years, despite the fact that he didn’t have to pay any in 2009.

I would think that’s more than most people reading this blog have paid in the last decade, including me - but not you Rich.

Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! 29. Well, if you’re the GOP, you don’t really want to discuss Plummer any more than you have to. It’s solid on the basic message: anybody is better than Quinn, even Brady.

  30. Funny I don’t remember all that stuff you bring up about Brady effecting Brady’s poll numbers. We know the wage increase thing has been giving Quinn fit’s can’t wait for the TV AD talking about the laid off workers paying for Quinn’s campaign flights.

Since when does negative campaigning flop? This ad wasn’t designed to talk about what Bill Brady will do…it’s designed to go negative on Quinn. That’s why Quinn’s name is brought up repeatedly along with negative issues/emotions.

Dan Hynes had some brilliant negative ads vs. Quinn in the primary and closed a huge gap in a hurry. I think this was a very solid ad by the Brady campaign. Finally something good out of their camp.

  32. It’s hard to not hit a home run. Quinn grooved a fat one in the wheelhouse with the pay raises.

Whoever steps in it least will win.
