From The Hill…
Republican Mark Kirk’s newest ad, which is set to go up on the air this week, according to a campaign spokesman, is positive and doesn’t mention his Democratic opponent.
“In a country where too many just vote the party line, there are only a few thoughtful, independent leaders who do what’s right for us,” the female announcer says in the ad.
The 30-second spot, which paints Kirk as “independent and effective,” was produced by Larry McCarthy of McCarthy Marcus Hennings.
*** UPDATE - 6:54 pm *** Just about every person I’ve talked to close to the Giannoulias campaign believes this ad will not run more than a few times. Even some Republicans say they don’t expect this to be up long. We’ll see.

He needs to bring up his postives before before he goes hyper-nagative on Alexi. Early - mid- September is for the that purpose. Then he goes hyper-negative late September - Early - Mid October and finishes positive late October.

Is there another Republican in the country who’s running away from the brand this year? Did he miss the memo that this is supposed to be a wave election? 4

i hope this is a BIG buy. oh, and air a few more “positive” ads, please.
anybody who runs a positive television ad this election year ought to just give the money away. this electorate is so angry, they aren’t interested in lovey-dovey ads that don’t speak to their anger.
more like this, please, from kirk. i guess he’s got money to burn…

With his funding advantage he can run a fluffy piece like this. This is his brand and how he has always sought to portray himself. He has gotten away from it and is using the ad to try and get back there.
He’ll have money for negative ads and the NRSC’s money sure isn’t going to be for fluffy, positive ads.

Is Kirk’s campaign manager on Labno’s payroll? Is he really running his first ad bragging about all the times he voted against the Republican party? I’m guessing the Kirk team is overreacting to seeing Barack Obama in a tv ad for Alexi and infuriating the right wing in the process.

The orange shirt made me think on jail jump suit and the reference to BP made me wonder how the Missippi/Illinois/Chicago River was going to run backward long enough to effect Lake Michigan

Not bad, but not great either. Seems like an ad for only the suburbs, not downstate. c+.

I don’t love the ad, but I do love that it’s positive and I bet lots of voters will, too. It addresses voters like they have brains. B.

How many times is he going to use that sweet b-roll of him walking alone on the beach?

Might be good for his old CD, but otherwise, eh. C-

Here’s one for the Suburban Women. I give it a 7.
Plus,it’ll drive the right-wing GOPers nuts.

The ad itself is a B. Nothing spectacular. Nice production work, good positive, feel good, independent message. He’ll need those independents.
Content I rate as a B also. While I think he is reminding his conservative base why they don’t like him and reinforcing skipping that office when they vote or voting for someone else, overall B. This is a good reach out ad to soft dems and independents.

His Svengali was banished back to Virginia by the ex-wife. Maybe Kimberly is running the campaign now.

See how positive works, nice. He is independent as IL is still a blue state.

A - : Very good AD… Sends the message to moderates that Kirk isn’t a rabid ideologue…Let the National GOP drive the GOTV effort and Kirk concentrate on moderates, think Chuck Percy.

Above average for an ad in the 10th, average for this race. 6.5
Without sound the side-by-side of the little girl and the petri dish was worth a quick chuckle.

I wonder how this plays with the suburban female. I do notice women take up the vast majority of the screen shots that arn’t Mark Kirk.

Mark Kirk, Protecting Lake Michigan…as he struts by.
Yup. Feeling safer already.
I wonder if its a bad thing that he no longer even tries to “portray” himself as a Republican.
Truth at last?
